Katniss's News chapter 2

"Are you ready?" he asked me.

"No," I answer him. "I'm scared. What if she doesn't like it? What if she thinks that we are still too young? What if-"

"Katniss, darling," he interrupted me, "everything will be fine. Your mother will be ecstatic. Also, we have been married for two years. We are plenty old enough. Now, are you ready?" he asked again.

Unable to say anything, I nod. He dials in my mothers phone number and puts it on speaker phone. This feels a bit like déjà vu. About two years ago Peeta and I called up my mother to tell her that we are engaged.

*flashback*

"Mom, we have something to tell you," I speak to the phone. Peeta gestures to me to put on the speaker phone.

"Well, I'm listening," she replies calmly.

"Mrs. Everdeen," Peeta begins, "I proposed to Katniss."

"Oh, good. And what did she say?"

"Mother," I told her, "I said yes. We are getting married!"

"Oh, yay! When is the wedding? When do you want me to come to District 12? Do you want me to, um, tell a certain someone?"

"Well, we are thinking about having it in August and I would like it if you could help me some with the planning, but come down whenever it suits you best. As for the last question, I don't know. He'll find out sooner or later so it might be a good idea to tell him, but I don't care."

"Well, congratulations. I'll talk to you soon. They need me at the hospital."

"Bye Mom."

"Bye Katniss, Peeta."

"Goodbye, Mrs. Everdeen."

*flashback end*

"Mrs. Everdeen," Peeta greeted her.

"Hello, Peeta. How are you?

"Oh, I'm fine. Katniss and I have some news for you."

"And that is?"

"Mom, I'm pregnant," I told her.

"Oh, Katniss, Peeta! Congratulations! I'm so happy for you! Is it a boy or a girl?"

"I don't know yet. I just found out today that I was pregnant while Peeta was at work." Mom and I kept chatting and asking each other questions and an hour or two later she had to go and we said our goodbyes.

"Well, I think that went well," Peeta said.

"Yeah, it went very well. Peeta," I started.

"Yes?"

"I'm exhausted. Can you carry me upstairs."

"Okay."

And with that he swept me off of my feet and up the stairs.
