Drapes protected Anna from the morning sunshine, with the only light imitating from the gap between the blinds and window pain. The doorknob turns. A sluggish figure emerges.

"Hey"

"You ignored your alarms. It's time to get ready". Silence returned to the room.

The fiery haired teen decided to try once more

"Hey! Get up, slut! Work starts at ten!", she shouts, rapidly shaking the body engulfed by slumber

Grumbling could be heard beneath a mountain of duvets and pillows.

It's the time of the year when Ariel becomes a hermit… Shit

"Oh, and you got a letter too. From that woman. The one you've not met, but are ready and willing to abandon your family for"

Groggily, Anna sat up, blinking dumbly at the girl before her. Her adopted sister carelessly threw the letter on the bed. It was nothing to her.

"Since it's now my responsibility to get you out the door, I made you breakfast. Just cereal. Don't get excited. You have fifteen minutes to shower, and I expect you downstairs in thirty. If you're not at the table by then, I'm going to kill you", Ariel says before harshly shutting the bedroom door.

The younger girl hated having to be her sister's parent, but this was the life she was confined to for now. Ariel could not have visitors. She could not let them see her habits. The broken appliances she hid away, the rotten food. Everything was fine during the school year. Ariel could partake in regular 'popular girl' activities. Nobody would know that she can barely wade through her room or sit down on her bed. Neither sibling would admit it, but both trapped by illness.

Their parents understood Anna's sickness and wanted to help. Their biological daughter, however, was a confusion, yet they tried to help. Each week, they would remove items and trash from the teen's room, while she kicked and screamed, physically restrained.

"Stop! Stop it! Please!"

"I need it. Please don't do this to me! PLEASE!"

"Mom? Mom, don't do this. Don't do this to me"

"We love you dear, but this is for your own good"

"What? No! I'm okay! I swear, I'm okay! There's nothing wrong with me! My room is just messy. There's nothing to it. Nothing at all! PLEASE!"

Ariel's shrill cries had become common place in the Arendelle household, however that did not make them less distressing for the entire family to hear

"You fucking cunt, you liar, let me go!"

"You're both fucking liars! I hate you both!"

The weekly clean outs became less and less frequent. Attention was given elsewhere. Ariel was permitted to live in squalor and filth, so long as she confined it to her bedstead.

Anna decided that she would find the motivation she needed to survive the day by opening Elsa's letter.

Dear Anna,

I am very pleased to hear that you have been enduring this awful job for several months now. It shows strength of character.

I am, however, less pleased to hear about your familial situation right now. I knew that our contact would be a source of conflict. It has been in my household also. You and I together, have opened old wounds. My parents wish not to speak of the past. It's impossible to talk about even the recent past with them. I just cannot talk to them. They do not want to listen. I am so glad to have you because I am tired of being forced to act as though everything is and has always been normal, for reasons I shall reveal when we eventually meet.

Though it is easy to forget, our families have fed us, kept us, and clothed us for many years. These are basic things that Iduna failed to do. Our respective families are far from ideal, but they have at least given us a chance. Do not forget this. Forgive me for sounding bitter. Iduna may have birthed two children, but she was a mother to no one. This is something I keep telling myself, yet I find that I still need her. I cling to the few memories I still have, repeating them over and over in my head. The bad ones haunt me, yet I cannot part with them. Hearing of Iduna's death, five years ago now... I lost my mind over a woman who destroyed me.

I cannot adequately express how happy I am to have you as my friend. I will give you the answers you seek regarding your birth mother. Please remember that she was not a tragic heroine.

I'm sorry to shatter any illusions you may have of her. During my teenage years, when I was quarreling with my parents, I thought of the woman as a saint-like figure, and I viewed my mother and father, those who cared for me, as the villains to my story.

I'm sorry. Please take care of yourself.

Yours Sincerely,

Elsa

The eighteen year old ran to the bathroom, not just to shower. Though not the easiest pill to swallow, the letter gave Anna something to consider. Dealing with her sister, Ariel, was hard too. She was on occasion, the human equivalent of sandpaper. The cheerleader sat waiting expectantly at the breakfast table.

"Morning", Anna greets gruffly. It was her first word of the day.

"Ah, it speaks!"

"Yeah", the ginger sits down. The darker redhead studied Anna as she ate.

"Do you know you're late? Because you're late"

"Jesus, Ariel. Give me a break"

"It's 9:30"

The younger sibling took a deep breath, snapping her eyes closed. This conversation was as tedious for her as it was for Anna

"Listen. This job is good for you. I'm not in the best position to say this, but mom and dad want you to stay an active member of society. You can't stay at home and get fat... or rather get fatter"

"My dead mom was a drug addicted whore"

"There's puke on your collar"

No more words were exchanged between the siblings, until the younger walked the older to the front door.

"You're a bitch Ariel and absolutely nuts, but you're not so bad as a sister. I could have done way worse"

Author's note: I know I threw a lot of stuff at the wall with this one, but I hope some of it worked! I may alter this chapter at a later date, if I can. I wasn't creative enough to come up with names for Anna's parents. Yikes. For me, fanfiction is just a bit of fun, so let me know what you think!
