Sorry for the lack of updating - writer's block galore :/
And I fixed chapter 1 after a VERY detailed and explanatory PM from a friend -_-
Ok, to let y'all know, Shadow IS drafted into the military in honor of my cousin right now, who did the same thing right after high school , while the others are finishing up their senior year.
Sorry for the mishap, and lack of updating on Be MY Valentine for those who are reading it.. *cough cough* Fate the hedgehog *cough cough*
Again, SORRRRY!
Detour
The fire was reduced to embers, adding little light in the darkness. The sound of the rippling water on the beach and occasional cricket chirp broke through the silence of the night. Sonic and the others had passed out from sugar shock awhile back, leaving the two lovers quiet and alone. Amy purred softly in her sleep, still attached to Silver's shoulder, leaving him in desperate attempts to get her off. That... 'Thing' had an iron grip and wasn't giving an inch. 'Mental note - never make fun of Sonic's fangirl issues'
Shadow chuckled. This was just ridiculous. Grabbing the pink fuzz ball by the shoulders, he quickly unlatched her grip and shoved her into the cool sand behind them. Smirking, he scooted closer to the wide - eyed ivory hedgehog.
"The HELL Shadow!" Silver's gaze shifted frantically shifted between his boyfriend and the shaggy - looking pink hedgehog. "What if she woke up?!"
"What, I was gentle..."
"That's not what her hammer to your head is gonna say." Shadow looked over and smiled, patting his lap. Silver laid his head to rest on the ebony's lap, feeling the other's fingers start scratch behind his ears, making him purr. The night remained still as the two sat in total silence, enjoying each other's company. The fire cracked as the last log gave in and landed atop the embers. Silver drew in the sand as his mind ran rampant with thoughts; never taking a break before starting a new scenario. He looked up at the other lightly, seeing his eyes were closed, a faint smile on his lips as he continued to scratch his ears. Now could be a good time to tell...
"Hey Shads, I – "Silver's ear twitched as he caught a faint sound. "What was that?"
Shadow slid his hand back to his pocket. Silver sat up, curious at the other's actions. "I didn't hear anything." Silver's ears laid back slightly in annoyance.
"You're lying." The sound came again, louder this time. Silver looked behind Shadow as he smacked down on something in his pocket and the noise stopped.
"It's my ... Phone?" Silver's ears pinned down even further. Shadow tucked back to his side of the log.
Silver leaned closer. "I know what your phone sounds like, and if I didn't know any better, id say that was-"Silver's ears twitched forward in realization before flattening to his skull. "Your pager."
Shadow frowned in guilt. His ears twitched at every breath fuming from Silver's nose. He looked down at the sand and mud around his hover skates. The silence continued, neither knowing what to say to the other. Silver took a deep breath, his mind foggy as he tried to think of something to say. His eyes darted towards Shadow who picked his head up and met his gaze.
"You said you took the month off!" Silver questioned, a hint of anger in his tone.
"I did but this mission -"
"The mission?! I don't care about that; you... you lied to me." Silver's voice was barely a whisper as he finished his sentence. He crossed his arms, turning away from the ebony hedgehog. "I can't believe you would do that." He added, anger lacing every word. Shadow stood silently, opening his mouth to say something before he shut it again. The two stood in silence, neither wanting to break the silence. A toad croaked nearby as the waves came in farther up the shore.
"I... I didn't think that ..." Shadow started, but stopped as he saw the other's ears flatten. He sighed in defeat as he had nothing to say. He looked over as Silver turned to face him.
"I guess I can't trust you with something bigger." Silver answered, glaring at Shadow with emotions he couldn't read as a tear fell down his cheek, glistening in the faint light of the embers. Shadow placed a hand on the other's cheek but Silver glared and shrugged it off. Shadow stood awkwardly.
"Will you just tell me - "
"Never mind." Shadow's ears barely picked up the faint answer as he saw Silver turn and start to walk away. He reached forward and grabbed the other's sleeve.
"Silver, please-!"
"NEVERMIND!" Silver yelled, wrenching his arm from the other's grasp. "I'm going home; just go do your stupid mission!" Silver turned and walked toward the narrow path up to his car. Shadow stood silent as he watched Silver's silhouette fade away up the path.
"Silver!" His ears twitched as he heard Shadow yell something, and he stopped, hand on the doorknob. He looked down the path, but ignored it and opened the door and sat in the seat. Shadow growled as he heard the engine of his boyfriend's vehicle grew faint in the distance. A movement caught Shadow's eye and his gaze shifted towards Amy, who was sitting up and combing her fingers through her hair.
"I heard everything." Shadow cursed under his breath, running a hand through his ruffled quills.
"Well, Silver's off my list; just give him time, let him cool off, go after him in awhile." Amy stood up, brushing the sand from her dress, "Was it really necessary to throw me into the sand?"
Shadow didn't answer. He stared up at the beach where he last saw his lover walk away. Something wasn't right with him. He sighed and turned towards the pink hedgehog behind him.
"This stays between us."
"My lips are sealed."
OOOOOOOH Shadow's in hot water now! And my next goal- update Be My Valentine! And I'm pretty sure Fate the Hedgehog will make sure of that... Review nicely plz!
