Hello again. Thanks to those who read the first chapter. In this chapter, we will get another peek at the life of Ninjette.
To the guest who reviewed saying that chapters were short, I know that they are. I'm leaving out the details of things that haven't changed in the movie, and I just felt that the intro chapter should stay as it was. Hopefully they will get longer as this goes on.
After weeks of calculating, designing, and making, it was finally time for the showcase. The gang came in wheeling the bins of Hiro's invention. Everyone started wishing Hiro well.
"How you holding up?" Tadashi asked.\
"You're talking to an ex-bot fighter. Takes a lot more to shake me."
"Yep. He's nervous." GoGo dead panned.
"Hiro, trust me, you'll do fine." Ninjette started.
"Look at him, he's so tense." Honey pointed out.
"I'm not tense." Hiro defended.
"Relax, Hiro. Your tech is amazing! Tell him, GoGo!"
"Stop whining. Woman up."
"What do you need, little man? Deodorant? Breath mint? Fresh pair of underpants?"
"Underpants? You need serious help."
"I'm always prepared."
"I haven't done laundry in months. One pair last me four days; I go front, I go back, I go inside out, then I go front and back."
As the team grew disgusted at the fanboy, Hiro noticed Ninjette wandered off. He eventually found her in the middle of an argument with Professor Callaghan.
"I still don't know why you don't want me to support my best friend's brother."
"I told you to stay home tonight."
"And I told you that I'm an adult now."
"You're 17, Emily. I know that you are in college, but I don't want you sneaking off."
"You don't want me to sneak off? Where do you think I'll go? Bot fighting? I'm not Abigail!"
Professor froze before walking off.
"Dude, what was that about?" Hiro asked his brother.
"Callaghan's her father." Tadashi said calmly. "They have a few issues with each other."
"Callaghan's her father?!" Hiro repeated, shocked.
"Trust me, kid." Ninjette came back to the group. "It ain't all butterflies and gumdrops. He doesn't exactly 'take pride' in me. It takes a lot to please him."
"Then what-"
"Next presenter, Hiro Hamada."
The PA interrupted Hiro's question. Before he went up, Honey took the celebratory selfie, then everyone wished him luck one more time before he went on stage.
"Hiro, that was amazing!" Honey congratulated him after his performance.
"Great job kid. You really impressed my dad. There's no way you can't get in now." Ninjette told him.
"Yes." The group turned to see a rich looking man walk up to the group. Ninjette led the group away from the brothers, sending a scowl Krei's way. They watched in trepidation as Krei made an offer to Hiro, but sighed in relief when Hiro turned it down.
But the night was made when Callaghan handed Hiro the acceptance letter.
The group had just gotten to the café to celebrate. After twenty minutes, the group got suspicious when the brothers never came back.
"Where are those Hamadas? Shouldn't they be back by now?" Wasabi asked.
"They're probably still talking. I'll go check on them." Ninjette grabbed her keys and her helmet.
"Oh, Emily, sweetie, you don't need to do that." Cass told her.
"Ms Hamada, I don't mind checking on the boys. I'll call you if anything happens." She left the café and hopped onto her moped.
When she got to the university, she gaped at what she saw. The expo hall looked like it had been in flames. Firefighters were spraying the last of the flames, and nurses tended to those who had been injured. She scoured the crowd of injured people until she found one of the boys.
"HIRO!" She ran over to the boy, much to the paramedics' dismay. She whipped out her phone to send Cass a message.
I'm at the expo hall. The building is on fire. Found Hiro, still looking for Tadashi.
"What happened? Are you okay?" She noticed his heartbroken expression on his face, and she also noticed that Tadashi was nowhere to be seen. "...Where's Tadashi?" She heard her voice crack, and she had a feeling that she already knew the answer. Her hypothesis came true when Hiro broke down in tears again.
"H-he r-ran in trying t-to save Pr-professor Callaghan."
"Wait, my dad was in there?!" she screamed. Hiro profusely nodded while sobbing.
The others arrived just in time to see Ninjette collapse on her knees and start sobbing. GoGo and Honey tended to her while Cass ran to Hiro and Fred and Wasabi looked at the building. As Hiro and Ninjette tried to explain while sobbing, the others let the information sink in. Soon, the entire group was a sobbing mess (except GoGo, who just stood there with a heartbroken expression on her face.).
The funerals were held 3 days later, and after that, Hiro just stayed in his room, not wanting to be bothered.
Woah. I think my heart just broke in two. What have I done?
Next chapter will give us a better look at Ninjette's past and how she is handling her grief. So until then, this is Gold Medal Ninja.
