Chapter 2: Aftermath
I don't own W.i.t.c.h. as Disney does and Buzz Dixon and Snokie Stories own Serenity.
Will sighed as she hugged herself, sitting in one of the comfortable chairs in Mrs. Knickerbocker's office rolled back against the wall to the side of the partially opened door. The entire office was closed off except to the principal, police officers, herself, and those three bastards who were sitting just outside the door to the inner office as one of the officers were questioning them.
It wasn't hard to hear what they were saying out there, the boys claiming that she was propositioning them for sex if they paid her. And when that failed she supposedly tried to sell drugs to them. It was all a bunch of bullshit...bullshit the idiot police officers who were there was eating up. Will vaguely wondered if she should offer them ketchup to go with the heaping helping of bullshit they were swallowing.
"You do know if find that you did this, I will have to expel you?" Mrs. Knickerbocker asked, sounding as if she was sad the entire time all the while she was tapping away at a laptop computer which confused Will. Why the hell did the woman need two computers at her desk?
"So what, it isn't like anything I say would have any impact. It's not like anyone gives a fuck if I go to jail or not." Will huffed in anger as she turned away from the now frowning older woman.
"I really wish you would watch that mouth, if you keep using that language I'm going to have to give you detention." Mrs. Knickerbocker said as she rubbed her temples in annoyance. "Do you have anything to say about this? I know you refused to speak to the police, but you can talk to me. I'll help you."
"As if you would help me, you're probably writing me off your records as we talk." Will said angrily, but any conversation was halted when a loud booming voice broke up any further chat.
"What the hell is going on here? And why the hell wasn't I notified of this to begin with?" The somewhat familiar voice barked loudly, filling the office with tension.
"We didn't want to bother you on your day off, Sir." The woman office from earlier said weakly, her voice a little stiff.
"Don't feed me that garbage, Morgan, I know you have a daughter and nephew who comes here and I know your feelings on the Vandom girl. Did either of you bother to search the boys lockers?" The loud voice demanded, anger clearly present in his demanding voice.
"N-No Sir." The male officer replied.
"Then you better get to it, NOW! Thompson, you do it." The loud voice demanded.
"You can't do that!" Uriah squeaked out making Will grin a bit. Sounded like the little bastard had something he didn't want anyone to see.
"Ellen, care if we check these students lockers?" Boomed the loud voice.
"You know where the registry is Tom, knock yourself out." Mrs. Knickerbocker called back, smiling at Will.
"I know my rights!" Uriah snapped angrily.
"Kid, you don't have any rights here. Only rights you have is when I cuff you and take you into the station." The stern voice said. "Thompson, I swear if you try and pull anything I will have your badge. As for you Morgan, you are skating on thin ice and if Thompson finds anything you are getting wrote up and put under probation...if you're lucky."
"Yes sir." The female officer sighed.
"Now, care to tell me what the story is?" The voice asked, a little calmer though still angry.
"It's a simple case Sir. Miss Vandom was soliciting sex to these boys and when that failed she tried to sell them drugs." The female officer explained matter of factly.
"And I'm sure young Mister Dunn here is completely innocent." The loud voice said in a mocking tone.
"Don't you dare talk about me like that! Do you know who my father is?" Uriah snapped angrily.
"Sure I do, the problem is I don't care." The loud voice replied making Will smile a little. It sounded as if at least one person was impartial, if not on her side. Looking up at Mrs. Knickerbocker the redhead couldn't help noticing the smirk growing on the older woman's face.
"I'm glad Tom answered his cell." The older woman said off handedly with that smirk set in place making Will wonder what the hell was going on.
"How about the girl, what has she said?" The voice demanded.
"She won't talk Sir, clearly she's guilty." The woman said, her voice now sounding unsure unlike the tone she used earlier with Will when talking down to the redhead.
"How long have you been on the force with us, Morgan? Seven...eight years?" The voice demanded.
"Y-Yes Sir."
"And you made a stupid mistake that not even most rookies would make. Oh believe me, if this turns out how I think it will, you will be in it deep." The loud voice snapped before the partially opened door swung open hard and a somewhat large man stepped through revealing Will's new probation officer here in Heatherfield.
"Thanks for calling me, Ellen." Tom said as he walked in and turned to face Will as he leaned back up against the desk and looked at her sternly.
"Anytime, Tom." Mrs. Knickerbocker said.
"Now kiddo, care to tell me what's really going on?" Tom asked just as the phone rang, breaking up the slowly building tension in the room.
"Hello...Mrs. Rudolph? What's going on?...WHAT?...Come back down, I'll have Tom make sure you can get in." Mrs., Rudolph said, her voice growing angry as she finished the conversation in the phone and nearly slammed it down. "It appears one of your officers has been keeping one of my teachers out of the office. A teacher that is apparently a witness to all of this and has been trying to get in here to tell us about it."
"Idiots!" Tom growled as he pushed away from the desk and storm out the door. A few seconds later the outer door was heard slamming open before a loud tirade began that Will couldn't make out. She couldn't help withdrawing into herself a bit as she hugged herself. She had already given up and resigned herself to going to jail after this, but now...Now she may just have a second chance thanks to these people. A principal, a teacher and a police officer was actually trying to help her? They weren't just writing her off like all the other ones did?
No, she wouldn't trust them, no matter how much they pretended to care. She knew better, knew that they always wanted something when they acted like they wanted to help. Nothing was ever free, including a so called helping hand from adults around her. She learned that lesson a long time ago...
More voices soon joined it though as Mrs. Rudolph got up from her desk and came around to shut the door cutting off most of the sound now. "Are you okay, Will?"
"I'm fine." Will said, a little dazed at everything as she put up her best mask of indifference as she looked away.
"Want to tell me what really happened yet?" Mrs. Rudolph asked softly while reaching down to gently rub the redhead's shoulder.
"Not really." Will said as she shrugged off the older woman's hand making Mrs. Knickerbocker sigh sadly.
"You know if you ever need to talk, I'm a good listener." Mrs. Knickerbocker offered only for Will to angrily turn away. Sighing, the older woman moved back to her seat and turned off the laptop computer before closing it and sliding it into a leather carrying bag.
"Well young lady, Mrs. Rudolph told me everything and we found not only drugs in young Mister Dunn's locker, but also a gun. One of his friends even decided to testify against him and collaborate Mrs. Rudolph's story. Only question is...would you like to file charges against them for what they did to you?" Tom said as he pushed the door back open and stepped inside, a sad yet angry look on his face.
"No, I don't, I...am I going to jail?" Will asked as she looked up, eyes teary yet hopeful as she looked at Tom.
"No sweetheart, you aren't. You did nothing wrong at all, and if you are sure you don't want to add any charges to Mister Dunn's list of them, we will still have enough to make sure he rots away for a long time." Tom said as he pulled out his wallet and took a card out and a twenty dollar bill before handing them to Will who took them curiously. "If you change your mind, call me at home, my number is on the card. As for the money, go to the cafeteria and get you a drink and something to snack on while you wait for the classes to end."
"Thank you, I guess." Will said stuffing the card and money in her pocket. Usually she would say fuck you, but she was a little too stunned to verbally assault the man.
"Don't forget your computer honey." Mrs. Knickerbocker said as Will was getting up, confusing her. What computer?
"What do you mean, I don't have a computer." Will said as she looked at the older woman as if she was crazy. It took a few moments for it to dawn on her that the laptop the old woman was working on was in a bag with a tag that was dangling off the strap that said 'Will' on it.
"Did you forget, I told you to come by and pick this up after school. I have it done already, and put your homework assignments in there for tonight with several booklets on how to use the computer and applications if you need any help." Mrs. Knickerbocker said as Will slowly reached at to the leather bag as if her hands would be burned if they got too close.
"So...the scholarship pays for this?" Will asked as she finally touched the soft leather and gently caressed it. "And I need to bring it back at the end of the year?"
"No, the scholarship doesn't pay for this. I did, think of it as a welcome gift." Mrs. Knickerbocker said softly. "I just have one condition."
"I should have figured." Will sighed in defeat as she dropped her hands to her sides. After all, she truly should have known better because there were always strings attached to anything. Nothing ever came for free as there was always a price.
"All I want from you if you take this is to use it and try to do your best. Nothing more, nothing less." Mrs. Knickerbocker smiled kindly, "Go get a snack and try it out so you can stop back by if you have any questions about it before you leave."
"Thank you." Was all Will could mumble as she took the leather bag and hurried out of the office and into the outer office where the woman officer blocked her path. The older woman was giving her a strange look while shuffling nervously.
"Look kid...I'm...I'm sorry." The older woman said, struggling a little over the words. While toe woman seemed a little mad, she also seemed genuine. Will only nodded slightly and hurried around the woman and out into the hall thankful that she wasn't in the back of a squad car in handcuffs and that she was still here. That final thought brought her up short causing her to freeze in realization. She really was glad that she was still here.
"Hey, your the new kid, aren't you?" Another redhead asked Will breaking the girl from her thoughts. Looking up Will saw a girl with a darker shade of red for hair, emerald eyes and long styled hair. She was wearing a black shirt with a pink skull with a bow, a denim skirt that came a few inches above the knee and black heeled boots.
"Yeah, so what?" Will said as she sent a glare that the other girl only rolled her eyes at.
"I'm Rachel by the way, I was heading to get a brownie and kick back. Want to come?" Rachel asked giving Will a small yet friendly grin.
"Why would I want to?" Will asked, putting some hate into her voice as she glared at the girl who once again rolled her eyes.
"Girl, you don't scare me, I invented that look after all. I just thought we could talk, after all I wanted to tell you how awesome that was dumping that shit all over Hale." Rachel said as her grin grew even bigger. "Come on, my treat, you deserve it after humiliating the queen bee like that."
"Fine." Will relented as she followed the girl down the hall heading to the cafeteria.
"Love the outfit by the way, where did you get the jeans?" Rachel asked making Will tense up waiting for the girl to start making fun of her. She knew that her jeans were worn and looked bad with the frayed holes. Looking up at the girl, her eyes feeling a little misty, she realized that there was no teasing look in the girl's eyes. There was only pure curiosity.
"Some thrift store down on Meridian Drive." Will sighed, but was shocked that instead of disgust shining in the girl's eyes, excitement was there.
"The one with half the sign broken and missing?" Rachel asked as understanding shown in here eyes as Will nodded. "Sweet, I know where that is, we pass it when driving to see my dad every weekend. I so need to stop there and check it out. I have the perfect top that would go great with those jeans. Come over sometime and I'll loan it to you, you would look great in it."
"You hardly know me." Will said in shock. Was this girl really offering her that, something that she knew good friends did sometimes and yet they barely knew each other yet.
"I know enough about you. You seem cool, you apparently stand up for yourself and I have a feeling you would for your friends to, and I love your style. What more do I need to know?" Rachel asked curiously as they entered the cafeteria and got into the extremely small line.
"What about the rumors?" Will asked while turning her head to avoid looking Rachel's eyes.
"While I'm sure some of them may be true, I doubt all of them all. Everyone messes up, even me, the sexiest, smartest girl in the school." Rachel said making Will roll her eyes this time as she looked up at the girl to realize she was teasing about being the sexiest, smartest girl in school. Granted she was somewhat pretty, but Will had a feeling that the girl was more smartass than either the sexy or smart.
"You would be surprised what's true." Will sighed as she looked at the spread of treats through the glass. There was everything from healthy salads to cookies and cakes. What drew Will's eyes was the brownies that were thick and gooey looking. There was a generous amount of peanut butter whipped icing slathered on top with a chocolate drizzle In short it was making her drool a little over it until she saw the price, it was almost five dollars for a single piece.
"I knew we had a lot in common." Rachel said, "Hey, I want two of these and two chocolate milks."
"Here you go sweetie." the woman behind the counter said handing two small paper plates with chunks of chocolaty goodness to Rachel who gave Will one as well as the chocolate milks that came next.
"These are kind of expensive though." Will whispered to Rachel who moved in front of Will.
"Don't worry." Rachel said with a grin, "I'm paying, kind of a way to welcome you to the school and say thank you for knocking that blond airhead down a peg. She so had it coming."
Will wanted to argue at first, but Rachel was too fast as she paid for the snacks and led Will out to an empty table in a corner away from the few students who were milling about talking about this and that, but the words "Hale" and "Humiliated" kept repeating from group to group.
"You didn't have to do that." Will said as the two sat at the long table across from each other.
"Sure I did, like I said it's a reward for doing what half of us has been wanting to do for a long time." Rachel said with a grin as she took a big bite of brownie. Will did the same and almost moaned in ecstasy as she couldn't remember the last time she had anything that tasted so good. "And from that moan I'm pretty sure you like it, so it's so worth it."
"I didn't moan." Will squeaked out, a little embarrassed as she swallowed the mouthful of peanut buttery chocolaty goodness.
"Sure you didn't." Rachel said with a smirk, "So what kind of computer you sporting?"
"I'm not too sure." Will said, unsure herself as she really didn't get a good look at it yet. She opened up the bag and put the booklets aside before pulling out the computer gently making Rachel whistle in appreciation.
"Damn girl, that's a fine piece of hardware." Rachel said while looking at the computer with a small hint of jealousy. "I've seen those when my cousin dragged me to get a new computer to help with their band. They want to upload their stuff to youtube."
"What is youtube? I've heard about it, but..." Will asked, stopping when she realized what was coming out of her lips.
"Yeah, my mom's been a pain in my ass for a long time. Just this last year she finally removed more of the stupid child protection shit from our home network. Here, let me see your tablet." Rachel said as she grabbed Will's tablet from where she sat it.
"Hey!" Will squeaked out as Rachel's fingers flew across the tablets surface before handing it back to Will for her to find a new icon on the screen.
"Only use it on your free period, and you might want to use headphones." Rachel explained, "It has all kinds of videos from music, to television shows to, shit people put up there to make themselves look like idiots."
"Whose an idiot?" A new boy asked as he sat down next to Rachel and bumped his shoulder against hers.
"You are, you dork." Rachel said with a smile to the other redhead who seemed to draw away a bit. "Will, this is Matt. Matt, meet my new bestie Will."
"Wow, never thought you would use the word bestie." Matt said with a bark of laughter.
"Oh, and he's a bit of an ass." Rachel said as Matt grew a look of obvious mock hurt.
"Me? Never." Matt said as the bell rang.
"Damn it, we have to get to our last class. See you tomorrow Will." Rachel said as she got up, Matt following while shooting Will a look over his shoulder. Will wasn't sure, but she thought she saw the boy wink at her which confused her at first. At first she blushed a little before she realized that Rachel's boyfriend WINKED at her. Did that bastard think that she was going to sleep with him? Not that it was something she wasn't used to, she's done far worse for her next hit when desperate.
"Hey." A quiet, nervous voice said drawing Will's attention up to an Asian girl making the redhead frown angrily. How dare this betraying bitch dare show her face to Will.
"Get away from me, you fucking bitch." Will snarled angrily making Hay Lin take a step back before gaining a little courage.
"Will, you have to understand that what Cornelia said isn't what we think of you. Isn't what I think of you. I really do want to be friends with you. Please just thinking about coming to the Silver Dragon tonight and get to know the girls. If you don't have fun then no one will stop you from leaving." Hay Lin pleaded while bowing a little to Will.
"Will you fucking stop that!" Will asked as she fidgeted nervously. She never had anyone bow to her before and she was finding how much she hated it. Damn it, why did the waif of a bitch have to be doing that? Giving Will those damnable puppy dog eyes! Slowly Will felt part of her anger at the girl draining, but nowhere enough to forgive her. "Fine, if you stop that I'll THINK about coming."
"Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you!" Hay Lin practically sang as she danced away to the short line presumably to get a snack. If anyone needed one, Hay Lin did. Will just didn't plan to be there when the girl got back as she finished her own grabbed her stuff and hurried from the cafeteria in order to find a nice secluded spot to spend the rest of the day.
Thankfully Will was able to avoid anymore run ins with Hay Lin or anyone else trying to be friends with her. As she thought more and more about it, she became increasingly doubtful of the intentions of not only Hay Lin, but also of Rachel. Rachel had come across too friendly, just like those back stabbing bitches on the cheer squad of her last school. They were also the ones who caused her to get expelled after they humiliated her in front of most of the school which led to the redhead beating the ever loving shot out of them in front of the same crowd not moments later. And as usual the so called whore was the one the students blamed when the teachers finally got of their asses to see what was going on.
"No way am I trusting any of them." Will grumbled to herself as she walked into her bedroom and sat her new computer on her bed as she looked around her sparsely decorated room. There was a dresser with a cracked mirror, a small desk with one of the legs propped up on a couple phone books because of it being broken, an old plastic chair and her bed that had blankets with several holes worn into it and a small nightstand with a shadeless lamp and an old stereo alarm clock. The rest of the small house was actually decorated with pretty nice furniture as her mother had actually said that what Will had was all she deserved and she should be thankful for it.
Kicking off her shoes she stripped her clothes off dumping them on the floor unceremoniously. She pulled out a comfortable over sized tee shirt that was a solid black and pulled on another pair of jeans, these a little looser. Looking at herself in the mirror she couldn't help but feel a little disgusted by her body. It wasn't that she was ugly, but to her she was too pretty. Even without any makeup she was extremely beautiful which she blamed her problems on. Well, her looks and her mother and her ex-boyfriend. The first boyfriend her mother had a few years ago when her father abandoned them.
Sneering at herself from the mirror as her stomach growled, Will walked barefooted from her room and into the kitchen deciding that it was a good time for a snack. Her mother promised to go buy some groceries today as long as Will went to school and didn't get into trouble. Looking through the cupboards made Will's stomach start to drop as she came across a box of cereal that she new was near empty...and pass date. Moving to the fridge she couldn't help trembling as she was extremely tempted to take what she found. How could her mother do this to her after detox! Susan had promised to not bring any alcohol home, but there were two six-packs of bottles and a twenty-four case of cans of beer. The only thing that wasn't alcohol was about half a gallon of lumpy, spoiled milk left.
"Should have known." Will sniffed as she slammed the door shut after pulling her eyes of the tempting bottles of liquor. Instead she walked slowly to the couch and fell into it holding back a sob as she picked up the remote. She decided it might be a good idea to take her mind off of her stomach as the only she managed to eat today was a brownie and a chocolate milk which left her very hungry.
"Where the hell are you?" An angry voice nearly screamed as the door was slammed open making Will jump and fall off the couch realizing that she fell asleep while laying there.
"What the hell is your problem?" Will asked as she stumbled to her feet. Susan was standing just a couple feet away seething...and smelling of alcohol.
"My problem is that I have an ungrateful little bitch for a daughter! One fucking day! All I asked is for you to get through one fucking day without getting in trouble! Do you have any idea how humiliating it is to get called while on your first day of work?" Susan growled making Will confused. She knew Mrs. Knickerbocker hadn't called as she had been next to the older woman the hole time. Then again that didn't matter as Susan was acting that she had a job like she used to have when married to Will's father, not another crappy waitress job that paid next to nothing.
"I didn't do anything!" Will nearly sobbed, but she caught herself as she let her anger fuel herself and threw up a mask in order to keep her mother from seeing the pain she caused the redhead.
"Bullshit! I got the call from the secretary telling me how you were trying to whore yourself to those little bastards! I don't know where the hell I went wrong with you!" Susan snapped as Will shook, having a hard time fighting back the threatening tears.
"You know where you messed up? You stopped being a mother!" Will screamed as loud as she could before storming away from Susan.
"Where the hell do you think your going?" Susan demanded as Will walked away from Susan, refusing to let the pain get to her until she was far away from the older woman.
"Away from you!" Will said coldly as she stormed out the front door and slammed the door behind her hearing a clicking sound making her swallow as she realized she was still barefoot. "You have to be kidding me!"
Will grumbled angrily as she tried the door knob to find that she locked herself out. Shoes or no shoes though, she sure the hell wasn't begging her mother to let her back in right now. Instead, with a deep sigh, Will walked away from her home which was close to the main strip of town which usually would have made the rent higher, but for some reason three blocks away was a pretty bad neighborhood which meant pretty low prices on rent.
With a small smile she remembered the money that she was given at school and planned to see if she couldn't buy a burger maybe. It took her a few steps as she hugged herself trying to warm up (despite it actually being in the low 70's) before she realized he had money...in her other clothes.
With an angry snarl, more at herself than anyone else, Will walked down the main strip of town after turning onto it. There were brightly colored signs on both sides of the street advertising all kind of stores. Unlike the last town they lived in though, they were all family friendly places to visit. There wasn't even a bar there, though Will knew her mother would find one of there was. Hell, even Will was starting to think about saying fuck trying and go get drunk herself. She was sure she could find a guy to buy for her if she used the right incentive.
Instead, she shook her head as she smelled something really good. In fact, it was the best food she's smelled for awhile. It smelled almost like...Chinese. Looking up Will found herself standing in front of a restaurant called the Silver Dragon. It took a few moments to remember just where she heard the name as her thoughts weren't exactly going along a very good path at the moment.
"It smells so good," Will almost moaned to herself before starting toward the door. "She did say it was free..."
"Excuse me Miss, you need shoes to eat here." An older version of Hay Lin said in exasperation as Will looked around the room to find it packed full. Looking back at the woman Will could see she was clearly frazzled from what must have been a busy night.
"But..." Will started, but was cut off from a glare the woman sent her way.
"We're too busy to deal with this right now, young lady. If you want service go put on a pair of shoes then come back. In fact, while you are at it, maybe you should put on some decent clothing as well." The woman said as she looked down her nose at Will making the redhead fume. She was about to tell this woman what she thought of the attitude when an even older woman with a gentle smile and a mischievous glint in her eyes interrupted.
"Now dear, this is Hay Lin's new friend. And who wouldn't want to enjoy this nice night?" The old woman said, motioning for Will to follow which she did. "Sorry about my daughter-in-law dear, she's a little stressed out from the large party that called last moment."
"Whatever." Will said as she followed the old woman to a room in the back with a table where five other girls were sitting at, three of them familiar. One of the three glaring hatefully at her while running fingers through long golden hair.
"Who invited her?" The blonde growled hatefully as Will locked glares with her.
"I did!" Hay Lin snapped, surprising all of the girls there including Will. "Cornelia, either you drop the attitude and act mature or leave. NOW!"
"Fine." Cornelia sighed as she crossed her arms.
"Please Will, give this a chance and please don't push any buttons." Hay Lin pleaded as she got up and hugged Will making the redhead want to smack her, but looking into the pouty face of the girl made the redhead sigh in defeat.
"Fine." Will grumbled as Hay Lin squealed happily.
"Good, everyone meet Will. Will, this is Elyon, Taranee and Cornelia. You know Irma and me." Hay Lin said as she pulled Will to a seat next to her own and Irma.
"Hi, I guess." Will said a little shyly. She wasn't sure why she was growing shy all of a sudden, she didn't care what these girls thought about her, did she?
"Okay, back to me. Did you see my new car my dad bought me?" Cornelia asked, starting off a long conversation starting about her as well as some good humored teasing between the girls. At first it went all by fast for Will who didn't know what was going on, but before long she couldn't help wondering if this would have been her life if things didn't go to hell.
"You girls ready to order yet?" Yan Lin, apparently Hay Lin's grandmother from what Will learned from the girls talking. In fact she learned a lot about each of the girls which surprised her as she thought about it. And if she allowed herself to admit it she had started to maybe care for them, if this was actually real and not some sick joke they were playing. Then again, the group was a youth group which meant that they were a bunch of bible bangers which meant that they didn't do shit like that. Didn't it?
"Yeah, I'm starved." Elyon said happily taking a menu as the older woman passed them out to the girls. Will cracked hers open and her jaw dropped at the prices. Even if she didn't forget the money she had at home, she wouldn't have paid this much as it would have taken most of it which she didn't want to do.
"I don't think I'm really that hungry." Will sighed as she put the menu down on the table.
"Yes you are, now order something dearie." Yan Lin said making Will angry before Hay Lin cut in.
"And the best part, it's free. Family and friends always eat free here since my family owns the Silver Dragon." Hay Lin explained happily as the girls rattled off their orders. "Normally we would have been eating sooner, but there was a huge party coming tonight and since it's a school night my parents wouldn't let me help."
"Well...if you guys insist." Will sighed dramatically before putting in a double order for fried rice, sweet and sour chicken, chicken sticks, crab ragoons and a cola.
"Are you trying to get fat?" Cornelia scoffed at her order making Will fume, but she ignored the barb from the blonde girl.
"Cornelia, that's enough." Yan Lin growled angrily as she turned to see the saddened face from Will. "Food will be ready in about twenty minutes. Will, can I please talk to you alone for a few minutes?"
"I guess." Will sighed as she followed the woman out of the room ready to be thrown out. Instead, Yan Lin turned the orders in before leading the redhead upstairs and into a bedroom which made Will extremely nervous. It wouldn't be the first time a woman expected her to do...things...in exchange for something. This woman didn't seem like them though so this was a shock.
"Have a seat dearie." Yan Lin said as Will automatically sat down on the edge of the bed despite all of the other chairs and places to sit in the furniture crowded room. She couldn't keep herself from shaking as she stared down at the floor as she gripped the bed tightly on either side of her refusing to look up. She wanted to tell this woman to fuck off and go to hell just like she wanted to tell so many others. Instead she shook as she grew more scared by the moment as she always did in this situation. She knew the pain these people could cause if she said no...she remembered the last time all too clearly when she said no. She still had the scars to remember it.
"There we go." Yan Lin's voice drifted over the room as a small weight found itself around her neck and a heavier weight settling between her breasts on the outside of her shirt. "This sweetie is the Heart of Candracar. It's been passed down my family for generations to the one who needs it most. It gives it's wearer the strength to do what is right and gives them confidence in themselves. Real confidence if you trust in it."
"Wha-Why? Why give this to me and not Hay Lin?" Will squeaked as she gently touched the ornate looking jewel around her neck. She knew why, she new what this woman wanted. Squeezing the jewel tight though she felt a strength that wasn't there before, a strength that drove away the fear that was there a few moments ago and gave her the strength to stand up for herself. She missed the small smile that graced Yan Lin's lips though.
"Because it can only go to someone who is special, someone who needs it. My Hay Lin doesn't need it, but you do sweetie. And you are very special, see the way it glows around your neck?" Yan Lin asked softly. "Will, I know you are very troubled and if you ever need someone to talk to I will always listen. And the only thing I would expect in return is that you always tell me the truth. Okay?"
"Okay." Will said as tears filled her eyes as Yan Lin sat next to her pulling the redhead into a hug. After Will stopped crying Yan Lin took a tissue and dabbed her eyes.
"Are you okay, sweetie?" Yan Lin asked softly making Will nod her head, the redhead realizing that she really was feeling better from earlier. "And remember I want the truth."
"I'm okay now, thank you." Will said hugging the older woman back.
"Good, then lets get back downstairs since your meal should be ready soon." Yan Lin said making Will smile even more.
To say that Will was shocked would be an understatement as everyone was leaving the restaurant to learn that Irma was the daughter of the redhead's very own parole officer. After a short, albeit one sided argument Will found herself riding in the backseat of their normal car next to Irma as they drove towards Will home a few blocks away.
"So, did you have fun?" Irma asked hopefully as she looked at Will and sat her bag on the seat between them. Will couldn't help fingering her new piece of jewelry as they pulled out onto the street and headed towards the redhead's home. Of course Tom would know where it was, he was her probation officer and he said he would be coming to the house for their appointments.
"I guess so." Will sighed, hating to admit that much. The problem was, despite the rocky start, after they ate Will had gotten more into the talking and even found herself volunteering to help them Friday night at the retirement home before she could stop herself. Now she found herself mentally berating herself for doing it and letting herself actually start to like these girls. It was how it always happens, they act as if they care and are really trying to make her a part of the group and then they make her one big joke...just like her entire life.
"I'm glad, I'm really hoping we can be friends." Irma said happily before looking out the window realizing where they were. Asking a little nervously, "You live around here."
"Yeah...so?" Will asked nonchalantly while she could feel her heart cracking. This was the whole reason Will didn't want to be given a ride home. While Irma was distracted Will leaned in towards the seat she was sitting behind Tom, and slipped the jewel from around her neck and stuffed it into the top of Irma's bag. After all if they weren't her friends she really didn't feel like she should keep it.
"I was just curious." Irma said as she turned back to Will, but the shocked look in the girl's eyes told the redhead just what the girl thought about this neighborhood. It wasn't like this was Will's choice of a place to live, but it was all her mother could afford. Not that Will hadn't thought about just running away as she doubted her mother would even miss her.
"Yeah, well thanks for the lift." Will said as they pulled up out front of her house and hopped out, slamming the door behind her without waiting for a reply from either Irma or Tom and hurried up to the door. Thankfully finding it open.
"Irma, check your bag and see if anything is missing." Tom said sadly as he looked in the mirror at his daughter. "I saw Will stick her hand in it."
"You think she took something dad? I don't think she would do that." Irma said as she dug through her bag.
"I hope not sweetie, she's doing so well." Tom said as Irma held up a necklace showing him.
"Granny gave this to Will." Irma said in confusion, trying to figure out why.
"Let's take it to her before we go." Tom said smiling in relief, secretly very proud of the redhead. He really did care for the girl as he could see a scared and hurt little girl hidden under all the pain and bravado she showed. He's seen a lot of children like that and knew the ones who wanted help, wanted love and acceptance. He also knew the ones who were really a lost cause, ones that didn't give a damn about anyone but their selves and Will wasn't that type, she was the first.
The father and daughter made it up the short walk hearing screaming coming from the house which made them stop short as they were about to knock. It felt wrong hearing this, but they just couldn't bring themselves to knock.
"It's bad enough you were whoring yourself out at school, but now you go out all night fucking lord knows who? I'm getting sick of this you little bitch, and I'm getting sick of you!" A woman's voice screeched from the other side of the door.
"What does it matter, you won't believe anything I say anyways! And your one to talk, who did you fuck to get your new job?" Will voice screamed back before a loud smack and Will's cry could be heard making Tom pound on the door. Both the women said some nasty things to each other, but nothing made it okay to hit a child if that was what happened.
"What the hell do you want?" Susan snapped as she opened the door, Will standing behind her breathing heavily, hand on her cheek as her eyes watered, An angry red mark could be seen around Will's hand as Susan swallowed nervously. "Officer Lair, what are you doing here?"
"Will spent the evening with my daughter and she forgot something so we brought it up." Tom said making Susan's face go pale. "What I'd like to know is what is going on here? And did you get my message I left on your answering machine?"
"Nothing is going on." Susan said moving inside to hit the button on the old styled answering machine as Irma checked on Will who shied away, though accepted the pendant back gratefully.
"Hey Mrs. Vandom, I found out that one of the office secretaries called you before even bothering to get the whole story. I don't know exactly what she told you, but your daughter was a victim of a rape attempt by several boys who was trying to sell her drugs. Will is completely innocent of any wrong doing and the boys are going to be charged as adults." Tom's voice came loud and clear over the answering machine making Susan let out a strangled sob while covering her mouth before turning to Will who avoided looking at her.
"I think maybe it would be best to call children services." Tom said sadly as he looked back and forth between both women.
"I won't tell them anything." Will said as she glared at Tom.
"Will, she hit you." Irma said as she looked angrily at the nearly hyperventilating woman.
"No she didn't, and you cant prove it." Will said as she hasn't seen the red mark glowing on her cheek even if it did sting.
"I won't push this if you promise to call me if anything else happens." Tm said giving Will a card while Irma looked shocked.
"But Dad!" Irma cried out angrily.
"No Irma, this is what Will wants and I don't think either of them was exactly innocent of what happened." Tom explained while giving a pointed look at the clearly horrified look on the older woman. "And I have a feeling that Mrs. Vandom won't pull something like that again."
"Thank you, Mr. Lair." Susan croaked painfully.
"Don't thank me, because if I find out I was wrong I'll be coming after you. Do I make myself clear?" Tom growled only to get Susan to nod. After Tom and Irma said their goodbyes, Susan tried to hug Will who angrily pushed her away.
"Don't fucking touch me! I told you all of that but you wouldn't listen!" Will screamed as the older woman before turning to storm down the hallway.
"Please Will!" Susan cried, tears cascading as she hurried after her daughter to only get a door slammed in her face when Will retreated to her room.
"Fuck off!" Was Will's only reply as both Vandom women collapsed against the door on either side and cried.
"Grandma, that was nice of you giving Will that charm, but...I just remembered where I saw it at." Hay Lin said as the two women cleaned up after the girls. "Didn't you win it at bingo last week?"
"It matters not where it really came from dear, it matters what it can do. And if our young friend believes it can give her strength and confidence then it will." Yan Lin said with a smile as she wiped down the table.
"I hope she will be okay." Hay Lin said as she finished stacking up the dishes.
"I'm sure she will be dear." Yan Lin said with a large smile, "In fact, I have a feeling that things for her will turn around soon."
I have a request for anyone good with editing digital pics. Please go to my profile and go to my webpage and go to the New Bad Girl in Town story page. At the top it has the cover I'm using for this story. Can someone please download the pic and change the hair and eyes to have the same color as Will's?
Again, this is a non-magical story and any mention of the Heart is just a piece of jewelry that Yan Lin gave Will to help boost her confidence as Yan Lin may not be magical, but she is still highly perceptive. Anyways, on with the unsigned reviews:

I LOVE it! Screw the magic part darling, that's been abused and overused too much, and the characters of W.I.T.C.H have always(or at least in my head :p) had the strength to stand on their own without all of that. Your take on their reactions and interactions together in this type of scenario is not only refreshing, but makes me hungry for more! Thanks for posting this, I don't usually look at this genre cause of the whole overusing the magic aspect, but I think with this story on the board I'll have to check back more often ;)
Thanks, happy some people seem to love it as I've only received 2 reviews so far. And if you saw the bit about the Heart being given to Will don't worry as it's just a cheap piece of costume jewelry that has a light and small battery in it that makes it glow. It isn't any sign of magic showing up in the story. Hope you do check back and let me know how you like how this story goes.
Guest 3/31/13 . chapter 1
Great begin. Do not use magic is a way to see the girls from a totally new view.
Don't worry, I'm not using magic, just a few names that may be dropped here or there though there won't be any magic.
Whelp, that does it for the reviews so far. Sadly these are also the only reviews so far so if you like the story please let me know.
