The Fabulous Day
Nick Fury was having the day of his life. It was saying something as his life had become really fabulous since Odin 'All Father' had decided that it would be awesome to send his arrogant, thick headed son to Earth to teach him some humility. It wasn't really necessary to prepare Thor or Earth, was it? Nope, It would be alright! Especially since Thor was in rage, Jotün eradicating Jotünheim destroying rage! The Council had been a pain in the ass since then. Just like right now.
Like it wasn't enough that they had been harassing him for months for things that wasn't just possible to do, they were now bickering among themselves like school children! And the worst part was that he couldn't understand a fucking thing!
Now he understood paranoia. In fact he liked to think that nobody understood it like he did. So he had no problem when they wanted him to look the other side for a few things. He knew for a fact that all of them had 'secret' secret cells in their security agencies. But he let things slide as he was confident that he could handle any agents if they went rouge. Hell man, he let General Ross and the Hulk rampage around the world because the Council thought that it needed full scale military attention! Yeah, everyone knows how that worked out!
But now if whatever little he could understood was right, and it wasn't really much, than it meant that the Council Men has a secret cell that was not just skilled and powerful enough for this 'I'm Loki, an all powerful god' shit but apparently it was more like their kind of thing! Now SHIELD was created for threats and 'interests' those were beyond normal. How in the Devil's name was he to operate efficiently if they were going to keep secret cells of superhumans? Not just one or two agents but entire cells! Entire secret super-fucking-humans cells! He just ruptured one of his cerebral arteries. He was sure.
And they were still bickering! The American Councilman was objecting to their involvement vehemently, "No no no no, No! Never. I don't want them anywhere near the Tesseract. No! In fact, I don't want them to even know about it!"
The British Councilman was mightily amused by this if the smile on his face was any indication. "Come on, man! If you really believe that they don't know about the Tesseract than you don't know them at all! You know that this whole mess is really their area of expertise."
Nick was incredulous. What the Brit wasn't even sure about how much his 'secret' secret agents knew? How much controlled they really were? Britain had changed their Councilman after the Thor fiasco. The new one was a lot more carefree and light mannered than previous one. Nick couldn't decide which one he hated more.
The French Councilman apparently agreed with the Brit, "It would be best to let them handle this."
'Let them?' Nick thought incredulously, 'they wanted to remove the SHIELD entirely? How powerful these agents were? Or perhaps they were acting like the stupid politicians they were and would come to their senses soon.' Nick thought hopefully. "You aren't seriously thinking of removing the SHIELD from the case, are you?", he asked with an impassive face.
The Russian asked with a sneer on his face, "Well, the SHIELD has managed the threat spectacularly, hasn't it?"
Nick wanted to strangle the little upstart with his bare hands. It was fortunate that he wasn't present here in person. Not that Nick couldn't control his actions. Or emotions. He very much could. He was the super spy. Thank you.
But the Chinese guy had decided to dance on the American tune. "If what Director Fury said about mind control and energy bolts are true than we need to keep the Tesseract away from them now more than ever. I don't think we would get our hands on the Tesseract again if we involve them. And it could be our only effective line of defense against them if they ever turn against us."
Nick's eyes were wide and his heart rate was a little fast, too. "Turn against you? Wouldn't get the Tesseract back? Are these guys under any kind of control or what?" He surreptitiously touched his temple. He was sure he had burst a vein.
The Brit thought that his concerns were unnecessary, "No need to worry director. They are well controlled. We call them MI-7 now. Really nice bunch of guys." Apparently the Brit was fond of them.
The American wasn't. "Nice bunch of guys? Just a few years ago they nearly started a genocide that would have wiped the whole world! Right in your country!"
Now this was too much for our esteemed director so this was followed by the outburst, "What? Why doesn't SHIELD know about this? If I remember correctly this agency was created specifically to deal with this kind of threats! And who dealt with them? Do I need to worry about them too? I must know these things if you want me to do my job efficiently."
At this the American open his mouth, closed it and frowned. The Chinese was making a face like he had tasted something sour. But the French answered, "Don't worry director the threat is long gone. And no you don't need to worry about the one who removed it either."
The Brit chimed in, "Yup. Nice guy. A lot like your Captain Rogers but more like a commanding General than a Soldier."
It was confirmed. The Brit was a fan girl... or he had a crush. Nick wanted to bang his head.
Than a horrible thought entered his mind. The British government wasn't being controlled by them already, was it? He didn't think he could deal with another Loki. He gulped.
The American snorted at this declaration. "People change. What if he changed?"
The Russian arched an eye brow, "What if Nick Fury changed?"
The Chinese was looking at him suspiciously.
Nick frowned, "You are out of line. I would never do anything that's harmful to humanity. And perhaps you forgot but we have a global catastrophe waiting to happen! So you all need to come to a decision, fast. In my professional opinion, I don't think that removing SHIELD and Avengers from the case is a good idea. Especially since Thor has fought alongside them already."
The French put forth an idea, "It's not like we have the Tesseract in our hands anymore. If we don't act we will lose our freedom, and planet too, perhaps. So how about SHIELD provides intel and support while the Avengers work with MI-7 or whatever team to take down Loki?"
The Brit and Russian were looking amenable to the idea. Nick liked it too. If these special agents were to work with Natasha she can gain a lot of intel on them. He was sure that Tony would dig a lot too.
The American was thinking things over but the Chinese was being stubborn, "No. Don't we have any other options? What about phase 2?"
Nick shook his head. "It's far from ready. Agent Coulson has used one on Loki already. And it barely slowed him. He was thrown back but got up again within seconds. I think that you should send these special agents with Avengers. Avengers have fought as a team only once so it won't be much difficult to accommodate a few more guys. Especially if their leader has personality like Rogers."
The Russian pressed the Chinese, "If you had worked with them more closely than you wouldn't be so paranoid. We have worked together even though ours aren't all sunshine like British ones."
Nick was sure by now that these agents were somewhat independent. What in the merciful God's name were these politicians thinking? Allowing independent secret cells? Assassin creeds? What, just what were these agents?
The Brit was looking sideways at the American leader who nodded his head affirmatively but hesitantly with apparent resignation. The Brit leader then focused on the Chinese, "This is the best plan, admit it. The only reason they aren't at my door demanding to take over the case is because civilian casualties have been minimal till now but I don't know how long that would last. I think that they are preparing a team already."
The French leader added his two cents, "Yes. If what I know of this British hero is true than he could be at British headquarters to demand take over any moment now."
The Chinese leader agreed reluctantly at last, "Fine fine." He said while glaring at the British leader, "You can call Harry bloody Potter."
