Chapter 2-Suspicions
A/N: This chapter is distinctively shorter, sorry. And I want to thank my best friend and proof-reader of my stories, PretzelDog. Plus, thank you to all the people who favorited and followed this story. I really appreciate it.
"Morgan, did you find anything?" Hotch asked his coworker.
"The entryway of the killer was through the dining room window. The screen was broken and glass, a clean hole cut into it. The window was opened from outside. Whoever the killer is, he knows what he's doing and has the tools to do it," Morgan said looking through the bookshelf.
"Do you think he could have worked with one of the victims?" one of the cops, Clanton, asked.
"It's likely," Hotch responded as he pulled out his phone.
"Welcome to the office of Supreme Genius. What can I do ya for?"
"Garcia, I need you to see if anyone who worked with Viviana and Amos had a criminal record." Hotch walked into the hallway, earning confused looks from everyone. He spoke a little quieter, "And cross reference Prentiss and the Romano's for when they lived in Italy."
"Okay, and what does Emily have anything to do with them?"
"Found an envelope addressed in their house with Prentiss's picture in it. Keep it quiet." Hotch walked back into the living room.
"Ok then." There was a pause. "Well, Dani Graves worked with Vivana in the same department. She had a little incident with shoplifting a few years ago, but that isn't much. No one else who had anything other than some parking tickets, speeding tickets, and DUI's."
"And Amos?"
A few moments of silence and typing then, "Dylan Hughs murdered his girlfriend Jenna Moore when he was sixteen. Of course he was let out at eighteen, and he did nothing else after then. Sorry, Hotch, but that's all I got."
"Thanks, Garcia."
"See ya, Hotch. Garcia out!"
Hotch turned to Morgan and the two cops. "Nothing."
"I wouldn't expect someone who works for Interpol to have a criminal record anyways," the other cop, Brown, said. Clanton nodded in agreement.
"You never know now a days," Morgan said. "Some of the least likely people could be the unsub."
"Clara, Agent Hotchner is heading here now. He and I are going to take you to the crime s- your house where we are going to ask you some questions and you can get your stuff. Is that okay?" Prentiss asked as Hotch walked into the building.
Clara nodded, blank look in her eyes. "Yeah." She pulled on a loose thread on her black Under Armour hoodie.
"Clara, I'm Agent Hotchner. I'm sure Agent Prentiss has already explained the situation to you?" Claire nodded. "Good."
In the car, Prentiss was talking to Hotch. "So, I guess you know I'm taking in Claire for a while."
"As a foster mom," Hotch nodded. "But Prentiss, are you sure you want to do this? I know that I have Jack, but…"
"Y-Yeah I know. I was actually thinking about adopting her," Prentiss nervously said.
"A kid is a lot of responsibility."
"Hotch, it's just…" They pulled up to the house.
Clara got out slowly. Thunder rolled in the distance as raindrops started to fall.
"Let's get inside," Hotch said jogging up to the front door. He unlocked it and stepped inside. Claire and Emily followed.
Clara looked around, knowing that would never be her home again. The brown leather couches. Turquoise pool. Art room. Her own personal library. Everything she could have dreamed for- everything she ever had- gone.
"Agent Hotchner?" Clara looked at him.
Hotch turned around from looking in the kitchen. "Yes, Clara?"
"Have you ever lost someone close to you?"
He paused. "Yes."
"So you understand how your life is never the same again."
Hotch didn't answer. His mind saw memories. Haley's dead body. The funeral. The Reaper. Jack.
"Hotch are you okay?" Prentiss asked laying a hand on his shoulder.
He realized his fists were clenched. Hotch nodded. "Yeah... I'm fine." Prentiss looked skeptical.
There was an awkward silence before Prentiss said, "Clara, could you show me around the house? We're looking for things that may relate to your parents death."
"Yeah..."
Prentiss was in the master bedroom. Clara was in her room, getting her things. Hotch was looking around downstairs, but saw nothing that he hadn't already seen when he was there earlier. That is when his phone rang.
"Garcia, what did you find?"
"Well, when Emily was fifteen, she had a kid but gave it up for adoption. She is a girl and age fifteen."
"Do you know where she is?"
"The girl was adopted when she was three and moved to the United States. Pretty normal, right? But get this- she was adopted by the murder victims, Viviana and Amos Romano."
"So you mean..."
"Clara Romano is Emily Prentiss's daughter.
A/N: Ooooo, another cliffhanger! Yes, I roll like that. Cliffhangers for everyone! Lol, stupid joke. Anyways, I was thinking about putting a whole chapter in the story with Garcia teaching Rossi about Facebook. I wasn't sure though what my readers would think. So review and tell me: Should I add that chapter? Next week I will be in Pennsylvania and DC so I won't be able to upload. I will write though. Also, school starts in two weeks so not as many updates. Why so early? Idk the school board is retarded.
Anyways, Au revior for now! ~Torkidog
