"Mommy!" a 6 year old Lucina cried racing past the nursemaids her father assigned her at her birth. Heedless of their cries the blue haired princess was determined to get to her mother's study where, she knew, her mother, Robin, would be at this hour.
Robin glanced up from the cluttered desk as she heard the doors slam open. Slamming the tome shut the tactician stood up, she met the panicked stares the nursemaids gave her as they finally reached the princess.
"Forgive us for the intrusion, your highness, but the princess is..." one of the maids sheepishly stated. Robin waved her off and with a kind smile knelt down to her daughter's level.
"Mommy, come see, come see!" Lucina excitedly cried as she hugged her mom. "Yes, my little dove." Robin chuckled softly. Lucina pulled herself out of her mother's arms. "Come on mommy" she cried pulling on her mother's black robes. Robin stood up, a hand clasped in her daughter's as the little princess ran through the palace back to the playroom she shared with the toddler prince.
"look there mommy!" Lucina cried pointing over near the ornate gold-inlayed toybox.
Robin gasped, and covered her mouth with her hands. There was her year old son, Morgan, pulling himself up, trying to get the plush baby tomes he had been given for his first Nagamas celebration. Robin knew the tomes were harmless, but that was besides the point. My son, you're growing up so fast she whispered to herself as if in a silent prayer. "Lucina, would you like to be mommy's special helper and help me teach your brother to walk?" Robin asked, Lucina nodded. Robin whispered the plans in her ear.
"Morgan," she called, beckoning her son over. She crouched so that he could go to her. The prince giggled. His eyes met his mother's as he gleefully crawled over to her. When he reached her, she held his little hands in hers. taking him with her as she got to her feet.
Morgan looked up into Robin's face as she picked him up , confusion evident in his eyes. Holding him close and letting him rest his head against her shoulder. "It's time." She replied walking about 10 ft away. She gently set him down to where he stood on the plush carpeted floor. Morgan stood for a few minutes and then plopped down on his butt. Lucina ran to the bookshelf and took one of the plush tomes. The princess held the tome over Morgan's head, just out of reach, making it rattle. "Come on, little brother," she said smiling, "Get the book" Morgan cooed as he reached for it. Just as his fingers touched the book Lucina held it higher and rattled it again. The prince grumbled in frustration as he once again tried to get the book. When Morgan stood up again, Lucina hugged him and handed him the tome. "See," she said hugging him, "I knew you could do it." She let him go and backed off to the side.
Robin crouched to where she was at his level and beckoned him to come to her. "Come on little one, come to mommy," she cooed, making the goofiest faces possible just to get him to laugh. The toddling prince took a few tentative steps, each time he took a step the tome would rattle. After about fifteen steps the prince fell back down on his butt. "Aww, it's ok Morgan," Robin cooed as she helped him to his feet, "Let's try again." Robin lifted him back up to his feet, gave him the plush tome and backed away. Lucina stood about a foot in front of him and with one of his hands in hers, the other clasping tightly on the tome she took a step back, causing him to take a step forward to keep up.
The princess let go of her brother's hand when he was three feet away from Robin. Morgan toddled a few more steps, but stopped. Lucina started to move to help him, but Robin motioned her to stop. The determined look in his eyes mimicked the expression he will get in future battles. The young prince took his first confident steps toward his momma. Only stopping when he was in her arms.
"You did it! You did it! Congratulations Morgan!" Robin cried, hugging her son to her chest. "You learned how to walk, I'm so proud of you!" She snuggled him almost as if she were a mother cat and he her tiny kitten.
Looking down at her smiling daughter, Robin added, "But of course, none of this could be possible without the help of a very special sister!" she ruffled her daughter's hair with her free hand.
"Mommy," Lucina said excitedly, "let's show daddy!"
