6. Sunshine

Naruto loved the sun. Shikamaru on the other hand only loved the sun when he was nicely shaded and staring at clouds. Shikamaru sometimes wonders if this was what they meant when they said that opposites attract. But while opposites may attract, it takes a lot of compromise for opposites to stay together, and the compromise they reached on this topic was Shikamaru lying in his shade staring at clouds and sometimes Naruto while Naruto happily ran around the training ground practicing his aim and taijutsu.

7. Jealousy

Naruto was never the jealous type. Shikamaru wasn't either. Until he fell for Naruto. You see, he had a lot to be jealous about. Naruto attracted people left and right, especially with that tendency to flash that bright smile of his left and right. And it was alright if it was just that, but Naruto also was a very touchy person. He had this tendency to hug everyone they knew and Shikamaru could never stop the green-eyed monster from rearing its head when he witnessed it. But of course, for every bit of affection that Naruto showed towards friends, he would shower twice the amount of affection on Shikamaru. Which was a drag sometimes, but it was always enough to quell the jealousy in his heart.

8. Jealousy

Contrary to what Shikamaru thought, Naruto did get jealous. And despite Shikamaru's obvious lack of awareness, there were quite a lot of girls pining over him. And Naruto often compares himself to them. He knows that it took a lot of courage for Shikamaru to be with him, and he is jealous of the girls who pine for Shikamaru. Because sometimes, he wishes that he were born a girl, so that he would never have to give Shikamaru up for anyone. Because he knows deep down, that if Shikamaru one day told him he wanted a family and left him for a girl, he would never be able to deny him that choice. So yes, Naruto does get jealous.

9. Friends

Their friends were much more accepting than Shikamaru and Naruto had imagined. There weren't many same-sex couples around Konoha after all, and they had been worried that telling their friends meant losing them forever. Yet they had been accepting, even encouraging, with Sakura muttering, "I knew there was a reason someone was willing to constantly eat ramen with Naruto for such an extended period of time." And both Shikamaru and Naruto were glad that no tears were shed that night (except happy tears from Lee, but that was to be expected). Shikamaru especially was thankful for their friends, because while Naruto had thought he was asleep at that time, he had been awake while Naruto had sobbed silently the night before, and he knew how much Naruto valued their friendship. Shikamaru privately felt that if any of them were to turn on them so easily, they were never true friends anyway, but he knew Naruto definitely would be upset if any of their friends turned their backs on him.

10. Arguments

They didn't argue much. Shikamaru was too lazy to argue and really, Naruto did not ask for much. It was easy being in a relationship with Naruto, even for one as lazy as Shikamaru, but as with all relationships, they did have arguments, however rare. Once, they had argued over Shikamaru's laziness, after Naruto tried to get him to spar but he had vehemently refused in favour of lying on the grass. It was a long cold war that ended when Shikamaru literally bought a new set of kunai and promised to train with him at least twice a week. Perhaps to others, it might sound weird and slightly masochistic, but he was thankful for the arguments, because when they first started dating, Naruto was overly submissive, almost as if he was scared that Shikamaru would leave him if he disagreed on any subject. In spite of it sounding strange, Shikamaru is thankful that Naruto was comfortable enough in their relationship to fight back.
