Startled, my eyes snapped open. My little sister, Destinee, was jumping up and down, yelling Jac! Wake Up! Please! Jac! The bus just left!
Quick as a flash, I was out of the bed, and pulling on my shirt. I yelled at her, "Why didn't you get me up earlier!" Shyly, she lowered her head and whispered, nearly in tears "I...I just woke up too. Immediately my heart softened, and I said, in a much calmer voice, "Shh...ok...ok. Calm down, it'll be all right."
Suddenly, I remembered a day not too long ago, when those same words had been used to comfort me. The day my world came crashing down.
I shook my head. I couldn't let those thoughts get in my way this morning. I had to get Destinee and myself to our schools, and fast.
After all, you don't get a second first impression.
