A/N: Thank you for your support for my story =) 3 reviews in 1 day is a pretty good start for a 1st story. Shout out to Viper4k! Your review left a smile on my face. If any reader has any questions or things I could improve please leave it in the review. I know you're not expecting a second chapter a day after the 1st, but I was inspired so this bad boy came into fruition. Don't expect every chapter to be every day, the very most it will be is a month, if not then I'm either on a trip or I'm swamped with school stuff or grounded. Well without further adou, Chapter 2!
The Boom
THWACK!
"I can't believe he had the audacity to do that!" The blonde sheildmaiden muttered, retrieving her axe, which was now deeply embedded in a tree.
"Why would Snotlout ask me out again? Didn't he learn anything the last fifteen hundred times? Or from Tuffnut? Why is everybody asking me out now? The only person who hasn't said anything is Fishlegs, but that's understandable, he's terrified of me." The fiery girl ranted, relentlessly beating bushes and small trees.
Astrid Hofferson was the Pride of Berk and the best young warrior of her generation. She only wanted to be a sheildmaiden and defend Berk from the constant attacks from both man and beast. And maybe, just maybe, redeem her family honor from her Uncle Finn who was killed by the notorious Flightmare.
But, she supposed, it was never meant to be. The Heir of Berk, Snotlout Jorgenson, was constantly asking for her hand. Her parents thought it was sweet and genuine. But she knew better, the muttonhead was a self-centered, spoiled brat. He even got his father, Spitelout, to send her parents a marriage contract! Astrid had absolutely no idea how she managed to talk her parents out of that one. They kept saying that she would be well off as a wife to the Chief. But Astrid fought tooth and axe to burn the contract. In the end her parents didn't burn it, but returned the letter back to Spitelout declining the offer.
But ever since then, it seemed like every young adult that could marry wanted to marry her for her body. Not for her skill. Not for her attitude. Nobody wanted her for anything other than a trophy to brag about or a, gods forbid, child bearer. Blegh… she couldn't stand the thought.
But it is inevitable, with suitors at every door and window, she's going to eventually have to choose someone. Snotlout was automatically off the list. Same for Tuffnut. She guessed the only person that wouldn't be completely repulsing would be Fish-
BOOOOM!
Astrid was brought out of her thoughts by the sounds of her village under attack by the dragons… again.
Sighing, she placed her mother's axe on her back and made her way back to the village.
"Thor what am I looking at?" The young time traveler asked. He could tell he was about a quarter mile from the edge of the village.
"Thor? You there?" He asked again, looking at his wrist. He saw that the battery was at 7.8%. Knowing Thor will 'wake up' somewhere around 10%, Hiccup just resumed observing the large lizards that appeared to be ransacking his home. He noticed many bird-like and bumblebee-like silhouettes against the roaring flames. He even saw what looked like a two headed dragon, but he couldn't tell from this distance. He saw one dragon that looked like it was a roaring flame. He thought the Vikings must have lit that one on fire.
'Ironic. They breathe fire, but they can also get hurt by it.' Hiccup thought.
"Good morning Sir." The accent of Thor rang out sounding… groggy? Like he was actually asleep the whole time he was recharging.
"I guess you can call it that." Came Hiccups reply, "Hey Thor? Can you tell me what's going on over there?"
"Why certainly sir." A couple seconds passed, indicating the literal smart watch was scanning. "It appears that those dragons are raiding the village. The people also appear to fighting back. Based on thermals the dragons are carrying off animals. How would you like to proceed?"
Upon closer inspection, Hiccup did notice people fighting the dragons as they swooped down to grab hairy cows and sheep. Thinking, Hiccup asked, "What's your battery level at?"
A hologram showing 10.4% appeared from Hiccup's wrist. "Do you think you have enough juice to get me a gun? Specifically a sniper rifle?"
"Why of course Sir. Although I will be out of service until the morning. What sort of weapon were you thinking of?"
"How about a Barrett 50 Cal.? That'll make some noise wont it?" Hiccup replied, smirking. He used to go hunting with his dad when he was younger and his dad was only an aspiring lawyer. They stopped going when Sean became Mayor after Hiccup's granddad retired. He went a couple of times with Gobber through the years and packed some pretty good sized deer and even a bear. So shooting animals was not a problem for him, but if he ever had to shoot a real life person… he most likely couldn't do it.
"One Barrett 50 Caliber sniper rifle coming right up." Thor said as beams of blue light emitted from the face of the watch and on the ground, etching out the shape of the desired weapon. When it was completed, it flashed blue before becoming a black shape against the black rock in the black of night.
Picking it up, Hiccup unfolded the bipod and laid down on his stomach. Aiming the rifle he noticed a large orange dragon pinning a blonde warrior on the ground. He aimed for the head, right between the eyes, and pulled the trigger.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGHH!"
CHOP! SLICE! HACK!
Astrid was a blur of blonde hair and grey axe, slicing through the air as well as flesh. As soon as she entered the village, a Gronckle tried ramming her from the side. She rolled out of the way just in time and got into her battle stance. The Gronckle turned around and glared at the girl. It scratched the ground a few times before charging.
Now that Astrid wasn't taken by surprise this time, she was ready. As soon as the overgrown sausage was close enough, Astrid sidestepped and swung with all her might down onto the fat dragon's stubby neck. She didn't completely decapitate the beasts, but it was enough that it dropped dead within seconds.
Wrenching her now bloodied axe out of the corpse, she continued to the store house to defend it from the invaders from the sky. Along the way she helped Hoark kill a Nadder and wounded a Zippleback's wings. She even batted a Terror with the side of her axe as it flew at her.
When she finally made it to the storehouse she could see Snotlout hiding inside clutching a sword like a teddy bear. The Chief, Stoic the Vast, was fighting a Monstrous Nightmare outside. After smacking its face a couple times, the large dragon realized it couldn't get past the equally large human, and flew off.
Satisfied, Stoic turned to Astrid and told her to hold this position. Nodding, Astrid went off to defend their food for the upcoming winter while her Chief ran off to do something else.
The Nightmare from earlier landed behind Astrid and would've incinerated her had she not jumped out of the way. When Astrid stood up, she looked at the Nightmare, then she started looking for other people, she knew she couldn't take on a Monstrous Nightmare alone! Apparently the dragon knew that to as it started to stalk its way towards the sheildmaiden.
Astrid, seeing this, started backtracking, until she stumbled on Snotlout's shield that he dropped in fear when the fighting started. Cursing his incompetence and cowardice, Astrid made to stand up. But the Nightmare was quickly upon her, pinning her down with its large, clawed foot. It reared its head back, opening its maw showing hundreds of sharp teeth, and prepared to bite the young adults head clean off her body.
Suddenly there was a burst of blood everywhere as the dragon collapsed to the side, blood pooling around its head. After Astrid stood up she looked around to see if she could see her savior, but found no one.
BOOOOOOOOOOMM!
The sound echoed all around them, scaring off the dragons and making some Vikings soil their trousers, though they would never admit it.
Astrid looked around, confused and shocked, saying, "What the Hel?"
