April 1958.

Making his way to the library, Joseph wondered why he had been asked by the Princess to meet her and her husband, Prince Rupert there so that they could talk. He had noticed a change in her over the last few weeks, she had been acting out of character and had hardly been out of her suite and when she did come out, she looked pale and tired. Concerned, he questioned her about it just last week, but she brushed him off, insisting that she was fine. But now the closer he got to the library the more he wondered if that was what they wanted to talk to him about, or if it was about something else.

Meanwhile in the library, Princess Clarisse stood at the table, looking down at a book she had open in front of her. She had been stood there for several moments, slowly flicking through the pages when a noise coming from outside distracted her. Placing her hand down on the book, to keep her page, she looked across at the window before realising that the palace gardening team were out getting the lawn ready for the upcoming garden party, the first one of the year.

After checking the time on her watch and wondering where her husband and Joseph had got too, she looked back down at the book and slowly turned the page with one hand while placing her other hand on her stomach where she absentmindedly smoothed her hand back and forth over the waistband of her skirt. Smiling to herself a moment later, she placed her hand down flat on the table and continued to wait while turning over another page.

And just a moment later, Joseph appeared in the library doorway to find the Princess stood at the table with her back to the door. She was perfection to him, a beautiful soul and someone he could see himself spending the rest of his life with, if she wasn't already taken. But knowing from the get go that she would never be his, he threw himself into protecting her the best he could instead and in the ten short months he had been her bodyguard they had discovered that they had so much in common with one another and had become friends, something he would always treasure and be proud of.

Now, as he stood watching her he knew he had to make his presence known before getting caught by her husband, so knocking on the door frame to get her attention, he smiled as she first looked over her shoulder at him before turning fully to face him. "Good afternoon, Your Highness," he said and watched as she clasped her hands together in front of her, "I hope I haven't kept you waiting to long?"

"Oh no, of course not," she said and checked the time on her watch before looking back up at him, "Rupert isn't even here yet,"

"I am, I'm here," Rupert exclaimed as he entered the library, interrupting her in the process. "Sorry I'm late," he said, making his way over to her and kissed her on the lips, "the prime minister wouldn't get of the phone."

"That's okay, you're here now," she smiled up at him and wrapped her arms around his waist as he wrapped his arm around her shoulders.

"Yes I am," he smiled while putting his free hand down on her arm wrapped around him, "did you tell him?" He asked.

"No, not yet," Clarisse said while shaking her head. "I wanted to wait until you were here," she smiled and watched as her husband looked over at her bodyguard.

"Okay, well firstly I want to apologise for being late, I appreciate how busy you are today so thank you for waiting," he said, gently rubbing the back of Clarisse's shoulder with his thumb.

"Of course, Your Highness," Joseph said, bowing his head towards him.

"Secondly, we wanted to tell you privately before we officially go public," Rupert said and looked down at his beautiful wife and smiled, "you tell him."

Smiling, she turned her head and looked across at her bodyguard. "You may have heard rumours going around the palace about me?" She said and watched him momentarily before continuing. "Well we can confirm that those rumours are true, we are having a baby."

"You are?" He said in surprise, his eyes growing wide. "I had no idea, and hadn't heard any of the rumours."

"We are," Rupert beamed. "Doctors reckon about twelve weeks."

"Well that is great news, Your Highness," Joseph said as he looked at the Prince then averted his gaze to the Princess. "Congratulations to you both."

"Thank you, Joseph," Clarisse beamed across at him then up at her husband. "As you can imagine we are over the moon."

"Yes we are," smiled Rupert as he looked down at her.

"I can imagine you are," Joseph smiled as they both looked back at him, "I appreciate you telling me first too, well being among the first to know."

"Of course, you have become a huge part of the palace. Your support towards my wife is greatly appreciated, and with you being friends now it's only right you find out from us personally than finding out from the press." Rupert said as he watched Joseph look at his wife a moment before looking back at him.

"Well I certainly appreciate that, Your Highness," Joseph said as Clarisse smiled up at her husband. "I will leave you to it now, if there was nothing else?"

"No no, that will be all," Rupert said and smiled, "Thank you, Joseph."

"You're welcome, Your Highness," Joseph said and turned to walk out, but reaching the door he stopped and looked back over at them together. Rupert was now facing Clarisse and his hands were on her sides, and Clarisse's arms were now up, wrapped around his shoulders.

"You make me so happy," he heard Rupert say before leaning closer to kiss her as she closed her eyes.

Looking down, Joseph continued on his way back to his office, leaving them alone in the library.
