Prompt #001 – Clarity
Character: The Mirror of Erised

I reflect a small flame buried
below surface soil or a dark chest within your mind –
a moon whose face only emits light from the sun,
I give you Icarus' wings to fly along
and then come close to my form.

Beware not, for when I ensnare you
it is a pleasant act
wherein your heart screams at the peak, content
and my body warm.
And then you leave a cold glass
with fingerprings upon a pristine finish –
of ownership...or a signature signed
for you have made a contract with me
and I relinquish my hold
when the sun rises west.

The wingtips frost beyond the flame
I've taken and nurtured within.
Coated within a crystal of pure form,
I present to you: wanderer, desire...
the prize you seek but cannot reach to touch.

And so I claim you, little by little.
First your desire, your restraint...

...and then the light of life itself
and it glimmers only within
my mirror face, for that which I show
is your failt and the greatest trial a man can face.

I show not your face but your heart's desire.
