The saying opposites attract does hold some truth. It was quite true for Blackwells most amazing couple, Max Caulfield and Chloe Price. The same was to be said for Kate Marsh and Rachel Amber. The four were hella best friends, and spent a lot of time together, mainly at the junkyard. And they somehow managed to survive Blackhells' drama.

One particular morning, Rachel was looking for Kate so they could chat before Jeffershits' photography class(he loved to lecture), and found her being hassled by none other than Chloes' step-douche, David. Tired of that prick, Rachel of course had to step in. After snapping back and forth for half a minute, David gave Kate a scathing look before walking off. "Oh, thank you so much Rachel." Kate said, giving Rachel a big hug. "No problem, Katie. What did that prick want?" "Oh, some rant about the Vortex Club." "You aren't with the Vortex Club." "Yeah, but he thinks I'm involved because I went with you to that party Victoria invited us too."

Rachel shook her head. "He's an asshat, that's for sure. Well, come one. Better get to class before Jefferson can lecture us." Rachel took Kates hand, and the two headed for class. Neither girl could focus on the lesson though. While headed back to her dorm to finish some homework, Kate ran into Max. "Hey Kate. Wanna join me for tea?" "Maybe later Max. I have homework to do." "Okay. You seemed distracted in class today." "Yeah, I was. Rachel did the coolest thing! David was being such an ass, and she got in his face about it. It was awesome!" "I'm sure it was, Kate." Max smiled as Kate walked off. "She's more obvious than me."

Meanwhile, Rachel and Chloe were at the junkyard, and Rachel told Chloe the same tale. "Count on step-prick to be the biggest dick in town." Chloe muttered. "I think I told him a thing or two. Nobody messes with Kate." "Yeah. Rachel, are you going to tell her you like her?" " ?" "Don't even play dumb. I know you're hella crushing on her." "Chloe..I can't.." "Why not?" "It's complicated, okay? It's not as easy as it was with you and Max." "I know, but.." "I can't Chloe. I want to, but I can't." And with that, Rachel walked off. Chloe sighed. "She's so fucking stubborn."

Rachel and Kate met up in town later, planning to have some tea. They were silent while drinking. "Um, Rachel, can I talk to you?" "Of course, Kate. What's up?" "Kate took another sip of tea. "Okay, I'm just going to say this: I like you, Rachel." Rachel stared in shock. "What?" "Rachel, I like you, so so much. We have something special." There was an awkward silence. "Rachel, please say something.." "Kate, I can't." "Why?" "It's..it's complicated..I can't do this..I'm really sorry." Kate looked down at her cup. Rachel felt bad, but this was too much, so she left. She didn't see Kates' tears. Finding herself at the lighthouse, Rachel let out a frustrated scream, breaking down in tears of her own. 'What's the matter with me?'

The next day, Kate sat at her desk, leaning against her hand. She heard her door open. "Hey Kate. I brought you your book." she heard Max say. "Thanks. Just put it by my bag." Max did so, then walked over to Kate. "What's the matter, Kate?" "I..I told Rachel that I like her...And she told me she couldn't deal with it right now." "Oh Kate, I'm sorry." Kate looked down at her desk. "It was stupid. It was a mistake." "No it wasn't, Kate. I'm no expert, but I think Rachel might be scared. Her and Chloes' break-up was really hard. I know things are cool between them now, but that took time. I think maybe she's the same thing will happen with the two of you. She just needs a little time, thats' all." Max placed a reassuring hand on Kate's shoulder. Kate offered a small smile. "Thanks Max."

Rachel was at her house. She lay on her bed, staring at the starlight Chloe made for her. She didn't respond when Chloe came in and sat next to her. "How are you, Rach?" "Feeling like garbage. I just..keep fucking things up." "No you don't." "Yes, I do! I screwed up when we were together, and now I'm fucking things with Kate." "Rachel, we both made mistakes in our relationship. As for things with Kate, you just need to figure out what you want." Rachel sat up, still looking at the starlight. "I do know what I want. I want her."

"Then why are youn being so...well... you?" Chloe asked. Rachel glared at her, then looked back at the starlight. "I'm...afraid. I don't want to screw up again.." "Rach, listen: You won't. You and Kate can work this out. You just need to talk to her." "Thanks, Chloe." 'I just hope you're right.'

Later that evening, Rachel wated under a tree in the park where she and Kate usually had tea together. 'Kate should be here soon..I hope.' Kate showed up a few minutes later. She looked upset. "What do you want, Rachel?" "I..I wanted to talk." "It seems like you said plenty at the Bay Leaf." "Kate, I am so sorry about that. It's just..you told me you like me, and it caught me offguard. I could have handled it better." "You could have handled it a lot better." Kate said crossly, arms crossed. "I know, and I'm sorry. Kate, I do like you. It's just..it was really hard when Chloe and I broke up. And I've been afraid things between us would end up the same way."

"I understand Rachel. But if you'd give me a chance, gives us a chance, we could have something beautiful. What we have is..special." "I know, Kate. I want to figure this out." Rachel held out her arms for a hug. Kate looked at her a moment, then smiled, accepting the hug. "We'll figure this out." Rachel said softly. Kate smiled as the hug broke, blushing faintly. "We, we should probably get back to Blackwell. You still have a play to do." "Shit, the Tempest, I almost forgot. Let's go."

Kate was all set to watch Rachels' amazing preformance, until Mr. Keaton announced Juliet had been way-layed, depriving the play of Ariel, and those the show may be cancelled. Until Max spoke up. "Mr. Keaton, Kate knows this play by heart." "And she's the perfect fit for the Ariel costume." Chloe chimed in. "That she is.." Keaton turned to a very surprised Kate. "My dear, our production rests upon your slender shoulders. What do you say?" "Um..I..I couldn't.." Kate stuttered. "Please, Kate. For me?" Rachel asked. ate looked into her beautiflu eyes, and sighed.

"Dammit." She muttered to herself, now in said Ariel costume. She waited patiently sidestage. "Come away, servent, come." Rachels' line beckoned. 'Alright, here goes.' Kate approached Rachel. "All hail, great mistress. I come to answer thy best pleasure." She said softly. "Most fearless, generous spirit! Hast though performed to point the tempest that I bade thee?" "I boarded the kings' ship: In every cabin, I flamed amazement!" Kate gestered this time, feeling more into this. "The fire and cracks of sulfurous roaring the most mighty Neptune seem'd to beseige and make his bold waves tremble."

"My brave spirit! Who was so firm, so constant, that this coil would not infect his reason?" "Not a soul! The Kings; son, Ferdinand, was the first man to leap from his ship, and cried 'Hell is empty, and all the Devils are here!'" "But are they, Ariel, safe?" Kate strode up the shipwreck prop. "Not a hair perished, and, as thou bad'st me, I have dispersed them about the isle..in troops!" Kate jumped down, walking back to Rachel. "Ariel, thy charge exactly is performed. But there's more work." "More toil? Let me remember thee what thou hast promised." "How now? What is't thou canst demand?" "My liberty." "Thy liberty? Nay. This most of all, I will not grant." Rachel stated.

(from this point on, I recommend listening to Departure by Daughter)

'Wait, that isn't how that goes..' Kate thought, confused. "But.. surely thou hast assured my freedom.." "I never said how dearly I hold thee; my habit's been to keep my soul well draped. Most loyal spirit..companion, and friend...is acting in my service not replete in excitement, amusement, and delight?" Rachel asked. "Of course, mistress. It is most truly so.." "Then why, I pray you, wish you to be free?" "Excitement merely... counterfits bliss... these storms and adventure? I prefer to know thou still cared for my plainest self."

Rachel stamped the end of her staff against the ground. "I have thee in my grasp; I will not bend. I will not see thee flying forth alone! The envy would be more then I could bear." "So come with me. Is that not within thy's power?" Rachel then stepped forward. "Spirit, take my hands, most faithful friend." she said, taking Kates' hands and kneeling. "For but a little longer, I beseech: continue in thy service to my schemes. And when they are complete, I swear to thee...We shall fly beyond this isle..the corners of the world our mere prologue. I'll seek to make thy happiness so great, that e'en the name of liberty's forgotten. what sayest thou to my most hopeful wish?"

Kate was stunned. Her heart was racingThis moment was beautiful. She heard some yelling for her to say yes. But 'yes' seem so..weak compared to Rachels' lovely words. Kate thought a moment, then kneeled to look Rachel in the eye. "Mistress, that mine own happiness is so great to thou..that you would hold me so close to your heart... I could'st not ask for anything more. I would desire nothing more than to fly forth with thou." she said.

Rachel smiled. She tilted her head to the side, and leaned forward, placing a kiss on Kates cheek. It was brief, but made Kate blush all the same. She helped Kate to her feet, and the next part of the play was to commence, so Kate went sidestage again. She placed a hand on her cheek. 'What just happened.' After the play was over, everyone came up for a bow. Rachel dragged Kate onstage. Kate didn't mind.

The two girls walked down the street after the play ended. "Kate, you were amazing!" "I wasn't that great." "Yes, you were. You captured the part so well. It was flawless!" Rachel exclaimed. Kate smiled. "You did a really good job yourself." She wondered how to bring up what happened onstage. Luckily, Rachel did it for her. "Kate, those things I said onstage, I meant them. I want you to know that." "Rachel, I meant what I said too. I love you." Kate said, then wished she hadn't. Rachels' eyes went wide.

"Crap! I didn't mean..what I meant was..." Kate tried to explain, then sighed. "Screw it. I did mean that. I...I love you, Rachel." Rachel stared at her, then smiled. She gently took Kates' hands. She leaned forward, kissing her. Kate closed her eyes, leaning into the kiss. God, Rachels' lips were soft. Rachel briefly pulled away, letting go of Kate's hands and wrapping her arms around Kate's neck, kissing her again. Kate placed her hands on Rachels' waist. She had the biggest smile on her face when the kiss broke.

"Katie, I love you too. You make me happier then I ever thought I could be." Rachel told her, reaching over to brush a strand of hair from her face. Kate blushed. "You make me happy too." Rachel smiled, taking Kates' hand. They tightly interlocked fingers as they walked down the street.
