Well, some years have passed but it's finally here. Part two of Aphrodite vs Persephone

Aphrodite arrived at a mansion in Washington D.C., where an elegant party was being held. She materialized in the middle of the back garden, which was empty.

The plan was simple. All she had to do was giving the woman the scarf, charmspeak her into wearing it, steering her to the nearest man around her and direct her attention towards him. The spell would take its effects instantly. The woman would fall in love with the first man she'd laid her eyes on.

The goddess entered into the ballroom through the main door. The party seemed to be a diplomatic meeting, because there were many ambassadors and politicians wearing evening gowns. She mingled with the crowd and started looking for Hades' girlfriend.

It didn't take her too long to find Hades' girlfriend. As the Goddess of Love, she could read people's emotions and know if they were in love and with whom, among other things.

The woman was alone in a separate room, standing near a window. She was beautiful. Not as beautiful as herself of course, but still, very beautiful. She had dark, wavy hair, warm brown eyes, olive skin and full, rosy lips.

She was about to approach the woman whenHades came into the room from the other side. Aphrodite hid behind a column and watched the couple from afar.

"My love", the woman greeted the god, smiling brightly.

"Maria", Hades said and enveloped her in a warm embrace. "How are the children?"

Maria's smile widened. "They are fine. Mamma is watching over them. They are sleeping right now."

"Did they cry when you left?"

Maria shook her head. "I tucked Bianca in before leaving and she fell asleep. Nico was already in bed."

"How is he?" Hades asked her. "Can he walk?

"Not quite. He can stand on his feet though."

"I'll go to see them tomorrow" Hades promised, caressing her cheek. Then, his face became somber. "Maria, I need to tell you something. Now that we have two children, we must take precautions. The other gods are more suspicious of my children than ever and the last thing I want is for you and our children to be in danger. We need to be careful."

"Because of the war?"

Hades nodded with a grim expression. "They hold me accountable for the war. They think I am responsible for it."

"That is not fair", Maria protested. "They can't blame you for the war."

"It's not entirely without reason. The ones who caused it are my children after all."

"But you didn't encourage them, nor do you support them."

"It hardly makes a difference. There is certain darkness within them."

Maria she reached up and placed a hand on his cheek. "Hades, what Hitler is doing is not your fault. None of this craziness is."

"I am his father, Maria. I can't help but think that if I hadn't been such a terrible parent then maybe…"

"Stop blaming yourself for his madness", Maria interrupted him. "You are a good father, my love."

Hades snorted. "Most of my children would disagree."

"It is true", Maria insisted. "I have not met a man who cares for his children more than you do. You may fool others with that cold exterior of yours, but I know what is inside your heart", Maria said, placing her hand on Hades' chest.

Hades rested his own hand over Maria's and leaned down to kiss her.

Aphrodite stared at them for a moment and realized that pure love was emanating from them both. As the Goddess of Love, to break apart this couple was against her will.

She also realized that Hades was the supreme ruler of the Underworld. Nothing happened down there without his supervision. The dead may be subjected to judges, but those judges were subjected to Hades. He would never in a million years allow unjust sentences to be applied to the dead. She felt like a fool for falling for Persephone's threats.

She walked away from the room.

Aphrodite was several feet away from the mansion when she felt a cold presence. She turned around to look, but found nobody. She turned again and saw Hades standing in front of her, glowering fiercely.

"What are you doing here?" he growled.

"Lord Hades! What a coincidence! I was waiting for Ares to come here..."

"Do not lie to me!" Hades snarled. "I know perfectly well why you are here".

"You do"? Aphrodite asked, slightly nervous.

"Zeus sent you here, isn't he?"

"What? No!"

"He sent you to spy on me. He wants to keep me under control because he does not trust me." He paused, looking peeved. "Go and tell him that what I do with my life is none of his business and to leave my family alone!". With that, he melted into the shadows and disappeared.

Aphrodite appeared in her palace on Olympus, where Persephone was waiting anxiously for her.

"Well? How did it go? Did it work?" the Spring Goddess questioned her.

Aphrodite looked at Persephone with challenging eyes. "I didn't do it."

When Persephone started to speak, Aphrodite rushed to add. "And I am not helping you anymore. If this woman bothers you so much, just turn her into a plant or a flower, I don't care. I am officially out of this".

"What about our deal Aphrodite?"

Aphrodite smiled. "It's no longer binding. You see, when I watched the interactions between your husband and his, um, girlfriend, I realized that I didn't have to worry about your threats anymore. Whatever influence over Lord Hades you claim to have, it's currently non-existing".

Persephone stared at the Love Goddess, incredulous, "How dare you, Aphrodite? I am the Queen of the Underworld and I swear…"

"By the way, it's Lady Aphrodite to you, daughter of Demeter. You know the way out, Au revoir," Aphrodite told her, leaving the place triumphant.
