"This river is a good thinking spot," he thought to himself. Suddenly, he heard footsteps behind him and turned his head. What or rather who he saw made him catch his breath.
It was her.
"Ulquoirra is that you?"
"Woman," he breathed, taking a step back abruptly. He felt the need to steady himself, but refused to show weakness in front of her, so he settled for tensing his wobbling legs.
"Woman, what are you doing hereā¦alone," he murmured.
"Um," she took a step forward absentmindedly but Ulquoirra just stared at the decreased distance between them, refusing to meet her eyes but unable to avoid them for more than a few seconds, "I could ask you the same thing. How is it you're alive anyway?"
"Woman, how I am here is irrelevant. Do you not have someone to return to at your house," it broke his heart to send her away but he believed she'd never be his.
"No Ulquoirra what are you talking about, why would someone be waiting for me at home?"
He blinked in surprise and felt his eyebrows lower slightly, "Are you not joined in holy matrimony with a male? Perhaps Kurosaki Ichigo," he fought to keep his voice calm and measured.
"Ulquoirra I am not married and Ichigo's married to Rukia. They even have a baby daughter!"
For exactly thee seconds there was nothing but silence as Ulquoirra stared idiotically at her.
The silence broke. He rushed forward and grabbed Orihime by the shoulders and stared into her eyes.
"Woman, do you mean to say you are currently not involved romantically with a male and have no offspring."
Inoue's cheeks were tinted pink as she nodded her head nervously. Suddenly realizing what he was doing, the usually stoic man let go of her and took a few steps back, processing what she had just said.
"Ulquoirra, are you okay?"
"No woman, I am currently in a state of annoyance. It seems I made an error in my observations."
Inoue just watched him. She was still surprised at seeing him and shocked from his actions. Shaking her head, she gave him a bright smile.
"So, wanna come over and have some tea at my house? I've still got some peanut butter and apple cake left."
Ulquoirra pondered the invitation for a few moments. He failed to notice that while he was processing possible outcomes in his head, his legs were already following the woman he failed to ignore.
