"She's lying."
"Who, Molly? Why would she lie to you? She likes you. God knows why."
Sherlock ignores, or more likely doesn't recognize, the insult.
"Exactly, John. Why would she lie to me? What is she hiding, and why is she hiding it?"
It's not that John isn't curious, but, unlike Sherlock, he doesn't obsess over questions. Molly is entitled to her privacy. What's more impressive is that Molly managed to lie to Sherlock at all. Usually, she can barely string two words together around him.
Sherlock seems to think this is worth investigating. John agrees.
Curiosity must be infectious.
