I do not own RWBY or Halo
Chapter 1
Jaune gazed at Remnant with dead, hollow eyes. On the outside, no one would notice the broken soul encased by the Mjolnir armour.
Was it worth it? He asked himself.
But before he could continue, a voice cut in.
"Mind if I join you?"
"Of course not, Sir." Chief immediately replied seeing Captain Lasky standing a few feet behind him.
"At ease, Chief…" Lasky replied as he made his way next to the giant.
Trying to lighten up the mood he said, "It feels kind of odd for you to call me 'Sir'."
He tried once again, "Beautiful, isn't she? I don't get to see her often enough. I grew up on New Harmony. Attended Corbulo Military Academy. Never saw Remnant in person until I was an adult, but I still think of her as home."
Jaune didn't reply.
"You don't talk much, do you?"
Lasky sighed, "Chief...I won't pretend to know how you feel. I've lost people I care about, but never anything you're going through."
"Our duty as soldiers is to protect humanity...Whatever the cost." Jaune stated, reassuring himself that what he did was what was right.
But Lasky's thinking was different. "You say that like soldiers and humanity are two different things. Soldiers aren't machines. We're just people."
Lasky took one last look at the Master Chief before he took his leave.
"I'll let you have the deck to yourself."
The sound of footsteps slowly tapered off leaving Jaune in silence just like a few minutes ago.
She said that to me once. About being a machine.
Weiss did not usually wake up early on weekends. Sure, she was the first in her dorm to wake up during the weekdays so that she could spend quality time on her hair in the toilet, but in weekends she decided to pamper herself a bit.
However, this Saturday was different. She was woken up by the sunlight streaming through the windows right into her eyes and could not go back to sleep.
Yawning, she decided to look into her personal secret things she stored in a small chest. Picking up the key and easily unlocking it, she started browsing through her old letters, pictures, and things that were special to her.
She smiled as she remembered the memories behind each picture she looked through, but one picture drew her attention.
A picture of a 5-year-old Weiss and a blond-haired blue-eyed kid that looked to be the same age as her.
How did I get this picture? She wondered. She was thinking so hard that she did not notice her dorm mate looking at the picture from the bunk above her.
"Who's that?"
"Eeek!" Weiss screamed jerking and quickly looking up seeing the confused face of one Ruby Rose.
"RUBY! You dunce! Don't scare me like that!"
"I'm sorry Weiss…" The girl apologised. "I didn't want to scare you! I just wanted to know who that boy is, you know!"
"I know Ruby, but you should warn me next time."
"But you were thinking so hard!"
She does have a point...sigh.
"But you guys look like you're having lost of fun at the park!" Ruby exclaimed.
"Park?" Weiss whispered as the memories suddenly rushed back into her brain.
Flashback
Two children could be seen having the time of their lives in a park with a smiling white-haired woman looking after them.
"Jauney dear!" The woman called out to the blond boy.
"Yes, maam?" The little boy promptly replied.
"Watch over Weiss for me okay! I will be buying you two precious children some ice cream, yes?"
"YES!" Both children shouted for joy.
The white-haired woman could no longer be seen, but the children continued to play. Suddenly, a sound of a plane could be heard and both children swiftly looked up at the Pelican landing right in front of the park. Three marines came out and that was the last thing both children saw before they were sent into the realm of unconsciousness.
