Kurt waited outside of Blaine's room as the nurse checked him over. He couldn't help but think that he had overreacted, but he honestly didn't care. Blaine was the one that broke his promise to him. Blaine was the one that not once, not twice, but had tried to kill himself three times, not to mention cut himself frequently when he had asked him not to. Blaine was the one who couldn't seem to find anything important enough to him to live for. The more he thought about it, the angrier he got.
Suddenly, the nurse emerged from his room, shaking Kurt of his thoughts. When she caught sight of him, she made her way over.
"He's doing fine. He is responding positively to the medication I gave him to help ease the pain, so you may go back in. If he seems to be in anymore pain, I want to you call me in, okay?" Kurt nodded. "Also, he has been sleeping for a while now, so he refused the medication I offered him to help him sleep. If he has trouble falling asleep tonight, he is going to have to take it though." Kurt nodded again. "Because of the excessive bleeding in his wrists, he could get splitting headaches if he attempts to sit or stand, so please make sure that he stays lying down while you are in there."
Kurt suddenly went very tense. "Thank you," He said, standing up. "But I have to be going. I'll come back to check on him later."
The nurse frowned at him. "He has been asking for you…" She said, glancing back towards Blaine's room.
Kurt glanced at the door hesitantly. "I-I have to get some things from home. I'll be back later."
Without another word, he made his way towards the doors that lead to the elevators. He didn't want to see him right now. He was planning on spending the night with him, but he needed some time to cool down.
As he made him way out the doors to the parking garage, he sighed deeply. He really didn't understand why he wasn't enough for Blaine. Why did he not call him beforehand like he promised he would? He figured that when he got back to the hospital, he would be showered with apologies, but he really didn't want to hear it.
When Kurt found his car, he climbed in and turned the music up as loud as it would go, hoping that it would be louder than his thoughts that wouldn't shut up.
After he made it to his house, gathered the things he would need, and made his way back to the hospital, a few short hours had passed. He still wasn't prepared for what Blaine was going to say to him; how he thought he was going to make this right.
Kurt heard the ding from the elevator that would take him up to Blaine's room and went in, hitting the button and taking a deep breath. He hated the smell of hospitals. It was all too familiar to him.
Kurt stepped out of the elevator when the doors dinged back open and slugged his bag back onto his shoulder. As he made his way to Blaine's room, he ran into Blaine's nurse.
"You're back," she said, glancing up from her clipboard.
"I'm back," Kurt confirmed, setting his bag on the front desk. She sent him a smile as she took his bag, rifling through the contents.
"Is he awake?" Kurt asked, standing awkwardly as he waited for her to give him the all clear.
"Yes, he is. You may go on in," she said, handing him his bag back and receiving a quiet 'thank you'.
Kurt made his way back to room 206, standing tentatively at the door before knocking quietly, not waiting for an answer before letting himself in.
"Hey, I'm back," Kurt muttered quietly, setting his bag down on the floor near the door.
Blaine made no sign of hearing Kurt come in the room. He was still lying on his back, but his face was turned away from the door. He had the hospital blanket pulled up to his shoulders, but other than that, it looked as though he hadn't moved since Kurt had left.
"Blaine?" Kurt asked softly, walking over to the hospital bed. At the sound of his voice again, Blaine shifted away from him a bit more.
Kurt sighed, reaching his hand forward to run his fingers through Blaine's curly, gel ridden hair. "Babe, please. I'm sorry."
Blaine jumped when he felt Kurt's hand through his hair, pulling away from him even more. His right side was now pressed against the bed's railing.
Kurt sighed and pulled his hand away. "Blaine…I-I had to get my stuff from home. I'm going to stay the night with you, okay?"
Suddenly, Blaine's shoulders started to shake. He tried turning on his side to block himself from Kurt even more, but the pain was too much. Kurt heard a sniffle come from him, accompanied by a small whimper.
"Blaine…" Kurt muttered, reaching his hand forward again to lay it on his shoulder. This time Blaine didn't move away, because there was nowhere to move to.
"I'm sorry I left. I know you wanted me to stay, but I had to get away for a bit. Look, I'm mad about what you did, but I'm here now, okay? I'm sorry for yelling and just leaving like that, but I was upset and I…..I didn't mean what I said and …..I'm sorry."
Blaine remained quiet.
"I know you're probably mad, but it's okay. I'm here now, and I-I really am happy that you're okay. I'm going to set my stuff up now," Kurt said, turning away from the bed and grabbing his bag from across the room. He walked back towards the bed and pulled the contents out, setting them on the chair that faced away from Blaine.
"I brought some reading material for you; Harry Potter, cause I know that's your favorite…I also brought Moulin Rouge, cause I know how that's our movie and everything, and I thought that would cheer you up," Kurt rambled. When Blaine didn't turn around, Kurt walked around to the other side of the bed so he could see his face.
"Blaine?" He asked hesitantly.
Blaine stared blankly at the floor, not acknowledging him for a second. His eyes were red and wet, but tears weren't coming out anymore. As Kurt kneeled down to meet his face, Blaine didn't turn away like Kurt had anticipated, but he kept his eyes downcast.
"You're looking better than earlier. Are you in pain at all?" Kurt asked. He reached his hand up and tried to run his finger through Blaine's hair again. This time, Blaine didn't pull away. He just continued to stare. When he didn't receive an answer, he continued to talk.
"You know, I really like when you don't have any gel in your hair. I love getting to run my fingers through it," Kurt said sweetly, his eyes focused on the soft curls. He tried desperately to break the tension, but it still lingered.
'Why won't he look at me?' He thought.
Kurt pressed a kiss to Blaine's head and stood up from the bedside. He walked back around to his bag and finished pulling the contents out.
"Do you want to watch a movie?" Kurt asked. He was getting desperate. "I'm here for the night, so we don't have to until later…..if you don't want too."
Suddenly, Blaine turned around to face Kurt. He looked up at him but didn't speak. His eyes were still red and watery, and he looked so empty. His long eyelashes were wet and his cheeks were flushed. When Kurt caught his gaze, he found it hard to meet the miserable look in his eyes.
"…..I, uh, would love to w-watch something or-or do something with you, Blaine," he stuttered.
Blaine's eyes shimmered up at him. Kurt tried to read his face, but there was nothing.
"Please say something?" Kurt murmured. He leaned across the bed and pressed a soft kiss to Blaine's forehead. "Please?" He pressed another kiss to his cheek. "I'm sorry."
Blaine placed a hand on Kurt's chest and pushed him away gently, causing Kurt to jump slightly.
"What's the matter? Please, tell me," Kurt begged, tears beginning to sting his eyes.
Blaine turned away from Kurt again, trying to hide his face in the pillow.
"Blaine, if you don't want me here then just tell me, okay? I'll leave right now if you want. I am literally begging at this point for you to talk to me, or something."
Nothing.
"I can't…..I can't handle this! They wouldn't let me see you, and I already had to go through this with my mom, dad, and you two other times before! I'm sorry I was so horrible, but I love you and I need you with me!"
Kurt walked around the bed and kneeled beside it, grabbing Blaine's face in his hands and turned his head towards him, causing Blaine's eyes to go a bit wide.
"Please, say something!" Kurt yelled, tears streaming down his face.
"I thought you were leaving me."
Kurt froze.
Blaine's voice was gravely and weak from lack of use, yet he sounded so certain.
Kurt felt his heart thud against his chest and he let go of Blaine's face. They stayed there looking at each other for a moment, neither of them moving. Everything was silent, as if the smallest sound would disturb the air around them.
"What?" Kurt whispered.
Blaine's eyes shimmered back at Kurt as he reached his hand up to wipe the tears off of Kurt's soft cheek. "I thought you were leaving me."
"I don't-"
"You said this was my fault and that I would remember without your help. I asked you if you were coming back, but you didn't say anything. I asked for you after the nurse was finished, but when she came back in the room she said you had left…..And I thought you were leaving me."
Kurt's heart broke in his chest. He sat on the edge of the bed and wrapped his arms around Blaine's torso, burying his face in his neck and placing soft, repetitive kisses there. Blaine's body was stiff, but after a moment or two, he let himself slump against Kurt, crying softly into his shoulder.
"I was so scared, Kurt. I was so scared," Blaine whispered, holding on tight to him. "I thought you weren't coming back, and you were leaving me because I-…..I lied, and I broke my promise, and I-"
Kurt interrupted Blaine's ramble with a soft kiss to the lips, grabbing his face in his hands again and stroking the smooth skin there delicately. A small, surprised sound came from the back of Blaine's throat, but after a moment, he began to kiss back. Kurt moved his lips against Blaine's as Blaine wrapped his arms around Kurt's torso.
"Never," he mumbled against Blaine's lips. He opened his mouth slightly and kissed him deeper, Blaine humming adorably into it. "How could I leave someone who I wouldn't be able to live without?" He whispered as he pulled away just enough to look into Blaine's bright, hazel eyes.
Blaine smiled beautifully back at him, a look of relief washing over his face. "I love you so much, Kurt," he whispered, his eyes shimmering and his hands coming up to rest on Kurt's face.
"I love you too," Kurt whispered back. He leaned in again and brushed his lips against Blaine's one, two, three more times before he muttered a barely audible 'so, so much'.
