Author's Note: HAPPY 23RD BIRTHDAY TO ME
Chapter 2: Midnight: Part 2: Shadow
Jenny, Donna and the Doctor got in the room with the drivers. Jenny started looking around while her father talked to the drivers.
"What is the problem Driver Joe?" the Doctor asks
"We're stabilising the engine feeds. Won't take long"
"That is not the problem. Because that's the engine feed that line there, and it's fine. Something else is coursing this problem", Jenny says
"Who the hell are you?"
"The engine inspector", Jenny says
The Doctor looks proudly at his daughter
"And anyway it's a micropetrol engine, so stabilising doesn't make sense does it?" Jenny asks
"How do you know so much about this?"
"Because I have done a lot of work on them", Jenny says
"I agree with my daughter. It is not the engine feed. Sorry, I'm a doctor. I'm very clever. So what's wrong?" the Doctor asks
"Tell him!" Donna says getting angry
"We've just stopped. Look, all systems are fine"
"Something is going on here. I have a bad feeling about this", Jenny says pulling out her sonic and starting to scan
"Everything's working, but we're not moving"
The Doctor takes out his sonic and scans.
"Dad there are no problems", Jenny says
"Yeah, you're right. No faults. And who are you again?" the Doctor asks taking to the driver
"Claude. I'm the mechanic trainee", Claude says
"Some trainee you are", Jenny mutters to herself
"Nice to meet you", the Doctor says
"I've sent a distress signal. They should dispatch a rescue truck, top speed", Joe says
"Something tells me that is not going to be fast enough", Jenny says looking at her father
"We will just have to wait it out Jenny", the Doctor says
"Well I am getting prepared", Jenny says pulling back her hair in a ponytail
"How long till they get here?" the Doctor asks
"About an hour", Joe says
"Not soon enough", Jenny mutters looking at her scanner on her wrist something was outside the train
"Well, since we're waiting, should we take a look outside?" the Doctor asks
"NO!" Jenny says, "This planet you can't look outside unless you want to die"
"Lift the screen a bit", the Doctor says ignoring Jenny
"Jenny what is going to happen?" Donna asks
"Too much light. Turn around and shield your eyes", Jenny says
"What about you?" Donna asks
"I have contacts for this. Made especially for the brightest planets you wouldn't believe how many there are out there", Jenny says putting the contacts in
"It's 100 percent extonic out there. We'd be vaporised", Joe says
"No kidding", Jenny mutters, "Why do I always end up in these situations?"
"It is because your my daughter", the Doctor says cheerfully
"A more grown up version of him", Donna mutters
"No! Those windows are Finitoglass. They'll give you a couple of minutes", the Doctor says
"2 minutes and 20 seconds", Jenny says looking at her device on her wrist
"Plenty of time then!" the Doctor says, "Go on. Live a little"
"Wow", Claude says
"That is beautiful", the Doctor says
"And deadly. Shut the glass now", Jenny says
"Look at all those diamonds, poisoned by the sun", Claude says
"I know a planet that diamonds are NOT poisoned by the sun. Let's go there now shut that glass", Jenny says angrily she had a deadly feeling about this
"No one can ever touch them", Joe says
"Joe, you said we took a detour", the Doctor says
"Just about 40 clicks to the west", Joe says
"Is that a recognised path?" the Doctor asks
"It isn't Dad. This way is blocked off for a classified reason", Jenny says looking at her device again that was giving her all the information
"NO, it's a new one. The computer worked it out on automatic", Joe says
"I say something has tempered with that. This way is not safe. What ever is or what it is that is doing this is leaving no trail. It is hunting!" Jenny says
"How unsafe Jenny?" Donna asks
"Very. It is a reason why its classified. We will just have to deal with anything that comes. Whatever being is hunting us I will have to deal with it", Jenny says
"So we're the first?" the Doctor asks Joe
"Of course we are", Jenny mutters, "Idiots"
"This piece of ground, no one's ever been here before", the Doctor says, "Not in the whole of recorded history"
"Did you just…", Claude starts, "No, sorry. It was nothing"
"What did you see?" the Doctor and Jenny ask
"Just there, that ridge. Like a shadow, just for a second", Claude says
"What sort of shadow?" Jenny asks
That is when the alarms go off.
"Extonic rising. Shields down", Joe says
"Do it fast", Jenny snaps
"Look, Look, there it is! There it is!" Claude says
"Where!?" the Doctor asks
"What was it?" Claude asks
"Something that is dangerous of course", Jenny mutters to herself
"Just something shifting, something sort of dark, like it was running", Claude says
"Running which way?" the Doctor asks
"Towards us", Claude says
"Dad whatever that is it is deadly. To be exposed to that planet without dying", Jenny says
"I know. We will figure it out", the Doctor says
"Right, Doctor. Back to your seat. With your daughter and friend", Joe says, "And, uh, not a word. Rescue's on its way"
"Like we want to cause a panic", Jenny mutters
"If you could close the door. Thank you", Claude says
The Doctor, Jenny and Donna go out. And everyone questions them before they start panicking and worried about air.
"It is not the air we have to worry about", Jenny mutters to herself, "It is the shadow"
