Hi, I'm back with another chapter. Sakura, you're on!
Sakura: I'm on it. Wolf doesn't own GX, X-Men, or Glee. If she did, Jaden and Jesse would be together and Finn wouldn't have died. She also doesn't own any music featured in the story. She only owns her OC's. Any elements of Avengers seen are property of their creators. Also, Jaden's going to be a little smarter and Chazz will have a few vulnerable moments.
Oh, just so you know the first couple of pages are going to be centered on the gang getting ready, showing the main team's home lives and set us up for a few possible background chapters. Anyway, enjoy!
Chapter 2: Welcome to Duel Academy
The sun was just starting to rise over Domino City and was slightly coming in the room of the Yuki triplets. Hex's bed was closest to the window at an angle, Jaden's was at an angle closest to the door, and Robin's bed was along the wall between them.
Hex's portion was mostly neat and a theme of dark violet with several books about magic and the dark arts stacked near the bed. Robin's portion was red and white with angel figurines on a lamp table by the head of her bed. Finally, Jaden's side was red and black with superhero logos on the comforter and a sketchbook on the floor with pencils next to it. The rest of the room was somewhere between orderly and chaotic.
Jaden was still asleep when he heard a soft 'coo' sound coming from his deck case, which was on his desk table near the head of the bed. He opened his eyes slowly only to see a familiar looking ball of brown fluff with wings in front of his eyes. He jumped with a startled yelp that was not loud enough to wake his siblings, but smiled when he saw it was his new spirit partner, Winged Kuriboh.
"Well, good morning, Winged Kuriboh." Jaden said, still a little sleepy, but when he looked at the time he was glad the little spirit had woken him up. It was 7:30 and their flight to Duel Academy left at 10:00.
"I better start getting ready." He said getting up. He was about to grab his stuff when he heard another person speak.
"Shouldn't you wake up Hex and Robin, JayJay?" asked a female voice.
The hero duelist turned around to see two other spirits in the room. The one who had spoken was a cute female magician with long blond hair, a heart shaped face with rosy cheeks, emerald green eyes, and pale skin, wearing a blue and pink magician outfit with a small matching scepter.
The other one was a little smaller that Winged Kuriboh with an orange body with a pink heart on its forehead, blue eyes, two purple feather-like tails, and a set of pink wings that are larger than Winged Kuriboh.
These two were Hex and Robin's spirit partners, Dark Magician Girl and Happy Lover.
Jaden smiled a bit sarcastically and said, "I'm considering this payback for not waking me up on time yesterday." He then turned to gather his things for a shower.
"They're not going to like that." Dark Magician Girl stated and Happy Lover nodded in agreement.
"Well, maybe this will teach them to remember their brother when they leave the house." Jaden responded and then left.
He came back shortly after, and after laughing at DMG and HL's attempts at waking his siblings, he went downstairs to have breakfast. When he entered the living room he heard snoring. Turning to the couch, he saw his father dead asleep.
'He must have been on the late shift at the station again.' He thought, walking over to his dad.
Collin Yuki was a tall man with short black hair and red eyes, which were closed and had large bags under them, from not only the late shifts he'd been having but also all the studying he had been doing to try out for the department's new arson unit. He was currently sleeping in his off duty fireman's uniform.
Before he could do anything, Jaden felt a hand on his shoulder and turned to see Michael, his older brother. He looked almost exactly like their father but his hair goes to about his mid-neck (AN: his hair's kinda styled like Harrington's hair). He was wearing his white shirt, jeans, and sneakers which he usually wore at his job on the airlines.
"Let's let dad get some sleep. He's been pulling late shifts a lot lately." He whispered.
Jaden nodded and both boys went into the kitchen. Inside, their mother, Claudia, was making breakfast for everyone.
She had long brown hair with light brown highlights, brown eyes, and creamy skin. She was wearing a black pantsuit with a teal inner shirt. She owned her own music business about a block away and was actually having her store looked at by investors today.
When the boys entered the room, she smiled at them. "Morning, you two. I bet you're ready for breakfast."
The boys nodded and sat down while their mom made breakfast. A few minutes later, they heard shuffling and saw Collin stumble in half asleep.
Claudia giggled and walked over to her husband. "Morning, sweetheart." She said giving him a kiss.
Her husband muttered something near incoherent and sat down with the boys. Jaden, deciding to help, used his telekinesis to make a cup of coffee and brought it over to the table.
After taking a sip, Collin said, "Thanks, Psych," calling Jaden by his code name.
"What about me?" asked Michael, sarcastically.
"You'll get some when you start working crazy hours." His father said with an equal amount of sarcasm.
Jaden and Claudia laughed at that. Soon breakfast was ready and the four ate. That was when Claudia noticed that the remaining two children weren't present.
"Jaden? Where are Hex and Robin?" The answer quickly came, but not from Jaden.
"JADEN YOU JERK! YOU'RE NOT GETTING AWAY WITH THIS!" came Hex's shout from upstairs along with several banging sounds.
After that Hex and Robin came running down the stairs, ready to kill their younger brother, but were thwarted by being lifted off the ground by an invisible force. Jaden shot them a sneaky smile, which made them try to get at him even harder.
Claudia sighed and got up. "Alright, enough of that. Hex, Robin, have some breakfast and get ready to leave."
She then turned to Jaden. "Jaden, go make sure you're packed and ready to go."
Jaden nodded, put his siblings down, and headed upstairs. After another hour or so, the triplets were slipping on their shoes with their bags near them, including Hex's guitar.
"Good luck you guys. Have fun." Michael said, giving his younger siblings hugs, followed by their dad and mom.
"Be careful and try not to fight with each other." Collin said.
"Remember, you'll also be teaching other kids like you how to control their powers, so remember to set an example." Their mom reminded them.
"We know." The triplets said at the same time.
After a few more good byes were said, the triplets headed outside and on their way. Using his telepathy, Jaden was able levitate himself off the ground while Hex cast a spell to allow himself and Robin to fly, much to his displeasure though.
Kaiba Mansion
Shadow was asleep in his large room that was a combination of black, red, and various shades of purple. His red electric guitar was leaning on his dresser and a stack of CD's and video games were near his stereo and TV.
The young Kaiba was still sleeping, but that soon ended when a small blur jumped on him. With an 'umph' Shadow woke to find his younger brother, Timothy, sitting on his with a smile on his face.
Timmy had spiky black hair like his brother and dark red eyes like him too. He was wearing a black t-shirt with Blue-Eyes White Dragon on it and blue jeans.
Shadow gives him the Kaiba's signature glare. "I'll get you for this." He growled tiredly.
Timothy just giggled. "You'll have to catch me first!" With that, he ran out of the room.
Shadow just sighed and started to get up. He looked over at his bedside table at a picture that was sitting there.
It was a picture of a ten year old Shadow and a one year old Timothy. In the picture were two adults, a man and a woman. The man had short black hair and black eyes with tan skin. He was wearing an army uniform. The woman was slightly shorter than the man, with waist length red hair, dark red eyes, and tan skin. She was wearing a long sleeve dark blue shirt, black jeans, and boots.
Their names were Sean and Brooke Evans, they were Shadow and Timothy's birth parents. They had taken the boys on a camping trip and had vanished on the third day out there. The boys made their way back to the city and after their father's brother fought to keep them away from their grandparents, they were soon adopted by Seto Kaiba, who was a friend of the family.
Shadow smiled sadly at the picture. "I'll find you guys." He silently vowed.
He heard a slight growl behind him and turned to see a dragon that was black on one side and white on the other. It was Light and Darkness Dragon.
He smiled at the dragon, understanding what it was saying. "Thank you."
When he was showered and dressed, he went downstairs to kitchen where his foster dads were. Kaiba was having some coffee, already dressed in his usual trench coat and black clothes. His other stepfather, Alister Roux, was already dressed in his usual work clothes, a tank top, jeans, boots, and coat, which he wears at his job down at the docks.
"Good morning." Shadow greeted.
Kaiba nodded and Alister smiled in greeting.
"Good morning, Shadow, " Alister said. "Are you ready for Duel Academy?"
"Yep." He answered, sitting down to eat.
"Everything's been taken care of?" Kaiba asked, all business like.
"Yes." He said, swatting Timmy's hand away when it tried to get at his food.
After the short exchange, Shadow gathered his things, said goodbye to his family, and headed out. He took a few running paces and jumped into the air, unfurling his wings and pushing them down hard to gain altitude. Once he was high enough, he flew off in the direction of the meeting place.
Kame Game Shop
Sophia was asleep in her room, which was neat and pink. Not like 'jump out at you' pink, but a soft, calm pink. She had a vanity desk with a professional makeup kit and jewelry box on it and a dress mannequin in the corner wearing a lovely, sparkly black dress that Sophia had designed.
Soon, the alarm on her iPod dock on her desk went off playing "One Day" by Charice. Sophia's eyes fluttered open and she got up.
She caught movement to her right. Turning, she saw a girl about her age with pink hair and blue eyes behind a blue visor, wearing a red and light blue bodysuit with pink ballet shoes, dancing to the music. It was Cyber Tutu, her spirit partner.
Sophie smiled and left the music on while she got ready to go. After showering and getting dressed, she turned off her music and went downstairs to see her dads.
Both were already dressed for work to run their game shops. Yugi was also an archaeologist but his next dig wasn't for another two weeks. Her other dad, Duke, still ran his Black Crown Game Shop, but he no longer lived there.
She smiled and hugged her dads. "Morning Papa, morning Daddy."
Both smiled and hugged her back.
"Good morning, our little princess." Yugi said.
"Hello, are you here Yugi?" Asked an elderly voice.
They all turned to see Yugi's grandfather, Solomon, walk in, in his usual overalls and bandanna.
Sophia smiled. "Hello, Grandpa." She greeted and hugged him as well.
"Good to see you, Mr. Muto." Duke said, pouring a cup of coffee.
"You too, Duke." Solomon said.
With that, everyone had something to eat, and then Sophia gathered her things, said goodbye and headed to the plane.
Pegasus Castle
Ares was asleep in a neat, elegant room in a combination of red and blue. His room looks like one you would find in a fairy tale, but everything else looks like a normal teenage boy's room. He two large bookcases crammed with all kinds of books along with a state of the art computer and DJ equipment.
While he was sleeping, two duel spirits appeared next to him. One looked like a blue demon and the other looked like a chibi Dark Magician Girl. These two were Ares' spirit partners, Toon Summon Skull and Toon Dark Magician Girl.
TDMG looked to TSS and floated over to Ares and shouted, "WAKE UP, ARES!" in his ear causing him to fall out of the bed with a thump.
Ares got up and looked toward the sound of laughter and saw his partners laughing at him. "Not funny." He growled as he got up and opened the curtains to his room.
They just kept laughing and they were soon joined by a new voice.
"Problem, Ares?" Asked a man in the doorway, laughing slightly. Ares turned to see his father, Maximillion Pegasus, wearing his usual red suit.
Ares just rolled his eyes. "No, dad." He said and went to go shower, his father still laughing a bit.
After Ares had left, Pegasus noticed a picture on his son's bedside table. It was a photo with a younger Ares and an older boy with shoulder length silver hair and brown eyes, wearing all black clothing and holding a trumpet.
The older boy was Pegasus' oldest son, Alec, who was a musician. There was a storm a few years back and in the midst of it, he had just vanished. Pegasus smiled sadly, remembering how close the brothers were as kids.
Soon, Ares was ready to go. He said good bye to his dad and using his powers, warped some old metal into a disc big enough for a person to stand on and flew off.
As he left Pegasus walked over to a photo on the bookshelf. It was a picture of a woman with long dark honey blonde hair with a fringe framing her eyes which were aqua blue. This wasn't Cecilia, his first wife, she was Maria, his second wife, the mother of his two boys, and a scientist. Shortly after Ares was born, she disappeared. Left to go to work and didn't come home.
"You would have been proud of him, my love." Pegasus said softly.
Taylor Residence
Loud rock music came blaring out an alarm clock, that was soon silenced by the room's occupant blasting it with lightning.
"Phoenix! Did you just shoot your alarm clock, again?" Shouted the voice of said girl's father, Tristan, who was now a cop.
"No!" Phoenix shouted back, now torn between getting up or going back to bed.
"Now, Lady Phoenix, must you always destroy your alarm clocks?" said a female voice, not her mother.
Said girl looked up to see a pale skinned woman with short yellow hair and yellow eyes wearing a revealing yellow outfit and holding a staff. She was Fortune Lady Light, one of six duel spirits she had and the only one who addressed her as 'Lady'.
"Besides, didn't you like that one since you could have it play music instead of that annoying beeping sound?" said another voice.
Appearing beside Light was another Fortune Lady with long purple hair and purple eyes, wearing a similar outfit with Light only in purple. She's Fortune Lady Dark, self appointed leader of the Fortune Ladies and the one Phoenix talks to the most.
Phoenix sighed. "Dad is going to kill me. Hopefully he doesn't find out until after I leave."
After that, she got up and walked out of her dark blue room, which was impressive due to the fact it was a mess, her fencing equipment was on the floor, and her bass was sticking out in front of the door. After getting ready, she headed to the kitchen and saw her parents were already ready for work.
Her dad was in his uniform while her mother, Serenity, was in her casual work clothes. She had turned out to be surprisingly good with numbers, so she became a mathematician, much to her brother's annoyance.
"Well, Phoenix, are you ready to go to Duel Academy?" Serenity asked like the ever fretting mother hen.
Phoenix rolled her eyes, but smiled. "Yes, mom, I packed last night."
After a quick breakfast and goodbyes, Phoenix headed outside. With a quick bit of concentration, the wind picked up a bit, and in a few minutes she was flying.
Wheeler Apartment
In another disaster area room, only in teal and possibly worse than Phoenix's, Anokai was still dead to the world.
A little fuzz ball that looked like a Kuriboh only with a rat tail and a ribbon, rat feet, and green eyes was looking at him with worry. That's Kuribon, Anokai's partner despite being slightly girly.
"Need help, Kuribon?" Came a young girl's voice with an English accent.
The little spirit turned toward the door and saw a little girl with bobbed shoulder length ginger hair, gray eyes with small black rectangle glasses, and wearing a black summer dress. Her name was Emily. She was Anokai's adopted sister from England. She could see spirits like her brother, her's being Harpie Girl.
Kuribon nodded a 'yes' and Emily then proceeded to jump on her brother, causing him to wake with a grunt. When he saw the spirit and smiling girl, he knew exactly what had happened.
"You do realize this means war?" Anokai asked, annoyed.
Emily just laughed and got off him. She then dashed out of the room before Anokai could actually start moving.
When he got up, he took off running, going much faster than the eye could follow. Within seconds, he was dressed and his room was reasonably neat.
Then he took off for the kitchen… only to get his legs tangled in a trip wire.
"What that heck?!" He yelped when he finally got his bearings after the fall he took.
He looked up to see the amused face of his dad, Joey Wheeler, who was now a cook at a restaurant. Apparently he was a good cook, even Kaiba admitted it. That didn't mean, though, that he was done being a pro.
"Something wrong, Anokai?" Joey asked, looking oh so innocent.
Anokai just decided to ignore it, knowing it was pointless to argue with his dad. He got up and went into the kitchen, where his other father, Valon, was sitting dressed in a black business suit.
After the Orichalcos incident, Valon stayed in Domino City and after some help from the gang, he went to college, got a degree in finance of all things, and then got a job at Kaiba Corp.
Emily came in to have her breakfast and the family sat down together. When they were done, Anokai got his things and headed for the docks at his lightning fast pace.
Bakura Residence
The scene now changes to another apartment bedroom, only neater and a combination of white and icy blue. There was an impressive doll collection, with princesses and sorcerers, and a pair of ice skates hanging on a desk chair.
Angel was sleeping until her iPod dock gave off a bell like sound, causing her to wake up. She turned off her iPod and got up.
"Is it time to go yet?" Came the voice of a girl from where her deck was on her desk.
She turned to look at a girl with long blond hair wearing an old fashioned blue dress. It was Alice the Wandering Doll, her spirit partner.
Angel smiled at her. "Not yet, we still have time."
Alice groaned because she really wanted to go somewhere new outside of the city.
Angel just left and got ready. After that she headed to the kitchen and found her dads, Ryo and Akefia, already up and ready for work.
Apparently, after the adventure in the past, Ryo confessed his love for the tomb robber, who was offered a second chance at life and got a job as a motor mechanic while Ryo became a doctor.
"Good morning, Angel." Ryou greeted his daughter, while Akefia just waved and went back to his coffee. He was not a morning person.
Angel greeted her parents and ate breakfast. Then she grabbed her things, said goodbye, and ran out the door by passing through it.
Ishtar Residence
As for the final member of the group, he too was getting up to the annoying sound of an alarm, which was soon destroyed by a set of claws coming from his knuckles. The room was semi-neat, in light blue, with a keyboard in the corner and lots of books on Egypt.
Ari stumbled over to the bathroom to shower and dress. When he was done, he noticed a tiger wearing armor sitting on his bed. It was the spirit of Test Tiger, his partner.
Said tiger glanced at the ruined alarm clock and then looked at Ari pointedly. "I know, I'll get a new one when I get back."
The spirit tiger gave a sound like laughter, then vanished.
With that, Ari headed to the kitchen where he was greeted by a woman with straight, waist length dark brown hair, blue eyes, and really fair skin wearing a black skirt suit. Her name was Rita Ishtar, Ari's mother, who worked in the media.
She had met Marik during the Battle City tournament, but that's another story for another time. Speaking of the crazy blond Egyptian, Marik was now working in his family's museum in Domino and was also an archaeologist, helping out Yugi on his digs from time to time.
"Good morning, sweetheart!" Miranda greeted her son, giving him a hug.
"Morning, mom." Ari replied.
Marik came in a moment later and gave his wife and son a hug before they all went about with breakfast. Afterward, Ari grabbed his things and said 'goodbye' to his folks and headed out to meet up with others.
About an hour later
The gang had met up about a block away from the plane site and made the rest of the way on foot. When they got there, they were instructed to put their luggage in the cargo hold, and then sit in their assigned plane seats. Jaden was seated by Syrus, Sophia was next to Bastion, and everyone else were seated around the plane. Soon, they were all in route to their new school, Duel Academy.
A short time later, an announcement came over the intercom of the plane. "Attention, academy students, if you look out the window on your right, you'll see your new home away from home."
Most of the students did that, and were impressed at the sight. The island was mostly green with a forest and even a dormant volcano. The main building that jumped out at everyone was silver with four almost golden spires coming up around it, along with a red, yellow, and blue roof coming off the main building.
"Next stop, Academy Island! Please fasten your seat belts and set your seats into an upright position as we make our landing."
A couple hours after that, the gang found themselves in a large room that was one of the classrooms. Before that, they were given their uniforms, and changed. Sophia, Shadow, and Ari were wearing blue uniforms, Hex, Ares, Phoenix, and Angel were wearing yellow uniforms, and Robin, Anokai, and Jaden were in red uniforms. Each of them had their uniforms a little different.
Hex had his uniform jacket open over a white t-shirt with two sorcerer staffs crossed in an X shape, black pants, and the uniform boots, with his dog collar and gloves.
Robin was wearing the standard girl's uniform with the vest open over a black t-shirt.
Shadow's Obelisk uniform was altered to look like the boys uniform to the other dorms only in blue, because he hated the tails on the original coat, and he had purple fingerless gloves.
Sophia had on the standard girl's uniform with her necklace.
Ares wore the Ra blazer open over a tight black shirt, black jeans, black boots, and red wristbands.
Phoenix was wearing the Ra girl's top and gloves with black jeans, black combat boots, and her hat.
Anokai had his uniform like Hex only with a black t-shirt and dark blue jeans.
Angel wore the standard Ra Yellow girl's uniform and Ari wore the standard Obelisk uniform.
Jaden was wearing the standard Slifer uniform like his brother was wearing his uniform.
Jaden looked around the room and did a quick mind scan over everyone. He noticed that about a fourth of the mutants he sensed at the exams were in the room which meant that the rest were upperclassmen that he would meet tomorrow. He noticed, too, that Syrus was in the Slifers with him and Bastion was in the Ras with his brother.
Seconds later, a middle aged bald man with a goatee wearing a dark red coat over a shirt and tie appeared on the screen in front of them.
"Good morning and welcome my students," He said in a pleasant voice. "I'm Chancellor Sheppard, the headmaster here at Duel Academy, and you are the best and and brightest duelists in the world. Now please get yourselves settled in to your assigned dorms. I hope you find them quite comfortable, depending on how you ranked of course." He finished with a slight chuckle before the screen went black.
The students then walked out of the main building and headed off toward their dorm room assignments. Jaden and Syrus were sitting near a stone decoration in the courtyard with Robin and Anokai lying in the grass next to them.
"Well, it looks like the four of us are in the Slifer Red dorm." Jaden said, looking through his new PDA.
It showed his student ID, grades, duel credits that you could use to trade for booster packs at the card shop, a map of the island, and a student handbook. They could also record videos and send calls with them. Though, his and the PDA's the gang got had extra features in them compared to the others.
"Sure looks that way." Anokai said while laying in the grass. He was just looking at the clouds along with having his headphones in, listening to one of their songs.
As they were chilling, Bastion, Hex, Ares, Phoenix, and Angel walked over to them.
Robin acknowledged them first. "Hey, guys! Are you all in red too?"
Bastion smiled slightly and looked himself over. "Well, let's see...yellow sleeves, yellow buttons. I don't think so."
"Oh, is that what the color scheme's for?" Robin asked, looking at her uniform as she sat up.
Hex just smacked himself on the forehead.
"Please tell me you didn't just realize that." Phoenix said, groaning slightly at her friend's naivety.
Robin pouted. "So? You ever think I might be color blind!" She snapped.
"Actually, no. Are you colorblind?" Bastion asked, surprised by the display.
"No, she's not color blind." They turned to see Sophia, Shadow, and Ari walking up to them. Sophia was the one that spoke.
The spiky light brunette snickered. "She's right, but I could've been!"
Jaden just laughed at his sister's antics. He then turned to the three arrivals. "I take it you guys are in blue?"
"Yup!" Said Sophia with a smile and nod, while Ari just nodded.
Shadow then did a double take at what Jaden was wearing. "How come you're in Slifer Red, your scores were good enough to have gotten you into Ra Yellow?" Before he could say anything else, a thought occurred to him, one that made him growl a bit. "Crowler…"
"It's okay, Shadow," Jaden said, holding up his hand as a gesture for Shadow to stop talking. "I was going to ask to be in Slifer Red anyway. I want to work my way up."
Shadow just looked at him for a moment before nodding in submission. "Alright, but I feel like I'm letting him get away with abusing his authority."
"Like I said, it's okay. I have the feeling Crowler will get his eventually." The brown eyed leader said with a sly smile.
The gang knew that when Jaden smiled like that, it meant he knew something they didn't, which wasn't surprising since he was a telepath.
"Anyway, guess we'll be seeing you guys around the the dorms!" Anokai said with a smile.
"I don't think so, Anokai," Angel said, pointing her thumb towards another part of the island. "The Slifer dorm is that way and the Obelisk dorms are in other direction."
"She's right, guys." Ares agreed.
"Oh, well, but we'll still see each other around school." The female Yuki said, positively.
The others nodded, but not at what Robin said, but to the message the Jaden had sent via telepathy.
"After the welcome dinners and any roommates we have have gone to bed, we meet at the docks to grab our equipment and drop it off at the old dorm. After that, we go and set things up in the sub-levels."
After a few quick 'see you later's', the gang went their separate ways to their new dorms.
Obelisk boy's dorm
The Obelisk dorm was extravagant. All white with a blue roof. The grounds around the building; pristine. It looked like a palace.
To Shadow, it looked almost like home. Ari, though, was in awe. He had only ever stayed in a place remotely similar was when he slept over at either Shadow's or Ares' place.
The boys walked inside and were amazed by how lavish it was inside, too. After heading up the stairs, they found their rooms next door to each others.
They were huge! There was a king size bed, a widescreen TV, a kitchen with a fridge and stove, and even a full size bathroom with a jacuzzi in it.
"Wow! This is awesome!" Ari exclaimed after he dropped his stuff off and headed into the hallway to meet Shadow.
The Kaiba heir just smiled at his friend, when their talk was soon joined by a third party.
"I'm with you, dude! This place is sweet!" The two boys turned to see a boy about their age, height, and build with long, spiky, raven colored hair and orange eyes. Coming up behind him was a similar boy with long hair, only his was blond, and his eyes were brown.
"It personally reminds me too much of home." The blond boy said.
"I agree with that." Shadow nodded. "I'm Shadow and this Ari."
Ari waved.
"Nice to meet you. I'm Jacob, Jacob Rogers," Said the ravenette boy, who then gestured to the blond behind him. "This is Kyle Whiteman, my best friend."
"Nice to meet you both," Ari said. "Say, what kind of decks do you guys use?"
"I use a Dark deck and the orange eyed loon here uses a Warrior deck." Kyle answered, casually insulting his friend.
"Hey!" Jacob said, insulted, provoking a laugh out of the other two.
Ari got an idea. "Do you guys want to come look around campus with us?"
Kyle smiled but shook his head. "Can't, I still need to get some stuff in my room put away."
"Same here, but we'll see you guys at the welcome dinner." Jacob said, smiling.
"Sure, later." Ari said as he and Shadow headed down the hall toward the front door.
When they were out of earshot, Ari leaned over to Shadow and whispered. "I smelled it in their scent. They're mutants too, probably level three or four."
Shadow nodded knowing they would be seeing them tomorrow for practice. This year was going to be interesting.
Obelisk Girl Dorm
Sophia stood in awe at the girl's dorm. It was just as impressive as the boys. She walked into the main staircase area and was even more awed by the gold on the wall.
"This place looks like Ares' place…" Sophia muttered as she looked for her room.
She found it and was amazed by the size of the place, twice as big as her own room. She put her things away and headed out, only to run into someone. Sophia stayed balanced but the other girl lost her balance and fell backwards.
"Are you okay?!" Sophia asked helping the girl up, getting a good look at her. She appeared to be about 5' even with fair skin, blue eyes, and black hair that reached her mid-back wearing the standard Obelisk girl's uniform.
"Yeah, I'm good. No worries." The brunette replied, smiling, shaking Sophia's hand. "I'm Clarita Alan, but my friends call me Clare."
"Nice to meet you, Clare. I'm Sophia." Sophia introduced herself.
Clare's eyes widened as she asked, "Are you by any chance Sophia Muto?!"
Sophia laughed and just nodded her head. "Oh, wow! This is so cool! It must be awesome having the king of games for a dad! You must be really good!"
"Maybe, maybe not." Came a voice behind them.
They both turned to see a girl slightly shorter than them with fair skin, dark brown hair that reaches her knees, and light brown eyes wearing the standard Obelisk boy's uniform. "A name only gets you so far at this school if you don't have the skill."
Sophia just smirked, a trait she got from Duke. Her smile was Yugi's. "Oh, believe me sister, I've got the skill to back up my talk, rank, and name!"
The newcomer just smirked back at the remark. "That I believe, but I won't know for sure until I get you in the arena myself." She stated, walking up to them. "I'm Jennifer by the way, Jennifer Everett. Call me Jenny, please."
"Nice to meet you, Jenny. I'm Sophia and this is Clare." The blond introduced them both. "So, do you guys have any siblings or friends that come here?"
"My two guy pals, Jacob and Kyle! They're the life of the party!" Clare said with a smile.
Jenny, on the other hand, grimaced. "I'm a bit of a loner, but I came with my step-sister, Indigo Smith, who is my total opposite."
"Oh, it can't be that bad!" Clare dismissed.
But just as she said that they were joined by a fourth party.
"Jenny! There you are!" Came an overly perky voice.
They turned to see a girl about 5'5" tall with fair skin, hair the same length as Sophie's only brown with light brown highlights, and light brown eyes. She was wearing the standard girl's uniform only with lots of jewelry and make-up.
Clare and Sophia were starting to see what Jenny meant. They were considering making a run for it when she saw them. "Why, hello there! What are your names, darlings!"
Thankfully, Sophia recovered from the shock first. "I'm Sophia and this is Clare…"
Clare waved lightly still partially in shock.
"A pleasure to meet you, loves," She said with sickly, sweet smile. "I'm Indigo. So wonderful to meet you!"
Indigo then turned to her sister. "Now, come on Jenny, we have to set up our rooms." With that she walked off, head held high.
Jenny groaned once she was out of earshot. "I'm sorry about that. I better get going before she comes back."
"Oh, before you go," Sophia spoke. "What type of decks do you guys run?"
"I run a Ninja deck," Jenny replied. "My model wannabe of a step-sister runs a Fairy deck." With a quick 'see ya' she walked off after Emily.
"You think we should rescue her?" Clare asked, worried.
"Something tells me it's a family thing." Sophia replied, not wanting to get involved.
"By the way, I use a Charmer deck." Clare answered.
"Cool!" responded Sophia. "I'm going to go look around the school a bit. Want to come with?"
"Can't," Clare sighed. "I've got to go find the boys to make sure they aren't causing trouble. See you at the dinner!" With that, Clare and Sophia headed their separate ways.
Ra Dorm
The Ra Yellow dorm looked like how a library looked from the outside. It was very clean and almost all yellow.
Hex, Bastion, Ares, Phoenix, and Angel headed inside and found that their rooms were all along the same hallway. After unlocking the doors, they opened to fair sized rooms, with beds by the window, desk and drawers for clothes, bathrooms by the entrance, and even small fridges and stoves for in room cooking.
"Nice!" Hex said. "Single rooms to ourselves, with the standard essentials. All that's left is to unpack personal items."
"I like it!" Angel exclaimed. "It's almost like my room back home!"
"All that's left to do is "christen the ship." Ares joked as he went to unpacking.
After a while, they were done and met out in the hall.
"So, what should we do now?" Phoenix asked, starting to get bored.
"I want to go look around the school." Angel said.
"Then that's what we'll do." Hex answered. "Hey, Bastion, you want to come, too?"
Bastion shook his head. "Sorry, but I'm going to be setting up my computer."
"Well, guess that just leaves us, so let's go!" Ares said and ran ahead of the others, not seeing the person in front of him until they collided, both falling to the floor. "Whoa, sorry man!"
The other guy looked to be taller than him with short orange hair that was slightly spiked and black eyes wearing the standard Ra uniform.
"It's cool." He said as he got up. "Where are you rushing off to anyway?"
"Going to go look around, the school." Hex said, as he, Bastion, and the girls walked up behind Ares. "You want to come with?"
"Nah, I need to get some of my things unpacked." The black eyed boy said, before heading to a room farther down the hall.
"Hey, wait!" Angel called, causing the stranger to stop. "What's your name? I'm Angel and this is Hex, Ares, Bastion, and Phoenix!"
The boy looked back slightly and answered, "Graig." Then, he went into his room.
Hex looked on as the orangette disappeared through a door. He wasn't as good as Jaden when it came to detecting other mutants, but he could tell that Graig was definitely one of them, which means they were probably going to be seeing more of their new friend soon.
Slifer Dorm
The four newly made Slifer reds headed in the direction Angel pointed out and found the dorm building. But the place hardly seemed like a dorm, it was more like an old motel with two floors and peeling paint.
Syrus had very different opinion about it. "This isn't a dorm, it's an outhouse with a deck!"
But the guys had no complaints, especially Jaden, who was leaning against the railing looking at the ocean. "No way! I love the the view!"
"Yeah, it's like the motels you see in the action movies where the good guys are hiding while on the run!" Anokai mentioned, looking around the stairs.
"This place is great!" Robin said, practically skipping up the stairs to look for her room.
They split up to look for their rooms.
"This one's ours, Sy." Jaden said.
The room had a long, two-seater desk along the left wall, the window right across the room from the door, a three-person bunk bed along the right wall, and a small stove for cooking.
"It's pretty small." Syrus pointed out.
"Maybe, but it's just enough." Jaden replied, walking over to the window and opening the curtains. "Let's get some light in here!"
"Hey! Those were closed for a reason!" Snapped someone from the top bunk, as the light streamed in.
"Sorry." Syrus said.
"Yeah, we didn't see you up there." Jaden added sheepishly, feeling like an idiot for not sensing him up there.
"Well can you see me now?!" The covers were thrown back revealing an angry, heavy-set boy with a face and hair similar to a koala.
Syrus screamed in fear and latched to Jaden, startling him into almost losing his balance. "Will you stop your screaming! Who are you and what are you doing in my room!?"
"Ah, my name's Jaden," Jaden said, pushing Syrus off of him. "And this is Syrus. We're your new…" As Jaden tried to explain himself, the boy in bed turned away from them. "...roommates?"
"You're new alright, so lemme tell you how things work around here." The grouchy boy muttered.
Syrus blinked. "Like when Parents Visit is?" He asked.
"Duh, the whole color thing, that's more important than anything," The koala-looking guy explained. "There are three types of students, the Obelisk Blue students, the Ra Yellow students, and the Slifer Red students. Now, the Obelisk Blue students are ranked the highest, some through grades, others through connections. The Ra Yellow kids are really gifted kids with lots of potential, and then...there's us, the Red Wonders…"
"The Wonders…" Syrus murmured. "That's a cool name."
The large boy continued. "As in 'I wonder how rejects like us even got this far'. Hate to tell you, but we're the bottom of the barrel."
Jaden and Syrus looked at each other for a few moments, before the other boy said, "Oh, I'm Chumley by the way, nice to meet you."
Meanwhile, Robin had gone next door, because that was her room. It was the same as her brother's, so she was happy there was a small cooking area to use because she liked cooking and she was pretty good at it.
As she put her stuff down, she heard someone walk in behind her. She turned, expecting to see her brother, only to see another girl. She had waist length brown hair in two ponytails on each side of her head and a choppy fringe that fell into her dark brown eyes that were covered by black rectangle glasses. She had tan skin and a sleek build but only stood at 5'2". Unlike Robin, this girl was wearing the male's uniform and she also seemed to be younger than her.
"Hi, I'm Robin." Robin introduced herself with a smile, offering a hand.
The new girl seemed nervous, but shook her hand. "I'm Jamie Miller." She said in a quiet voice. "I guess you're my roommate."
"Yep." Robin said, still smiling, then she noticed something about this girl. "Say Jamie, not to be rude, but how are old you?"
"Oh, I'm thirteen," Jamie said shyly, starting to explain when she saw the surprised look on Robin's face. "I was allowed to skip a couple grades in school. I wanted to go to Duel Academy, but because I'm younger than other students I have to automatically start in Slifer Red."
"Oh, that's cool." Robin assured. "Say, mind if I ask what kind of deck do you use?"
"Um, I use a Gem Knight deck." Jamie answered.
"Cool, I use a Fairy deck." Robin grinned, getting a smile from Jamie, who was starting to feel at ease with the Yuki girl. "I'm going to go look around the school before dinner, you want to come?"
"Oh, no, no, thank you," The girl genius declined. "I'm just going to unpack my things."
"Suit yourself. Pick whichever bunk you want." Robin chirped, before leaving the room to go to her brother's room.
Anokai's room was at the other end of the balcony. Like Jaden and Robin, his room was exactly like there's.
"Looks like I get the room all to myself!" Anokai said, tossing his bag on to the top bunk.
"Ow! Hey!" Came an irritated voice from said top bunk.
Confused, Anokai climbed the ladder attached to the bed to look and came face to face with the boy who was sleeping there until he ended up with a bag on his stomach. He had short, layered black hair, blue eyes, tan skin, and the same height and build as Anokai wearing the standard boy's uniform.
"That hurt!"
"Sorry!" The Wheeler boy apologized. "I didn't know you were there. I didn't see any luggage so I thought no one was here."
"I didn't have much with me anyway, so it didn't take long to unpack." The brunette boy explained, still slightly annoyed about his wake up call.
"Still, sorry about that." Anokai said. "What's your name, roomie?"
The mystery boy looked at him a moment before he answered, "Dylan Mustafa."
"Anokai Wheeler." Dylan raised his eyebrows at the last name, getting a laugh from Anokai. "Yeah, I'm one of those Wheelers."
Dylan nodded and looked down, feeling a bit awkward about the situation. To try to ease this, Dylan decided to change the subject. "What kind of deck do you use?"
Anokai smiled. "I use a Gem Knight deck. What about you?"
"Dragon deck."
"You want to go explore the main building?" Anokai asked, still smiling.
Dylan was startled, but shook his head, feeling weirdly shy around a kid who seems to be his polar opposite.
"Okay." Anokai grabbed his bag and put it on the bottom bunk before heading out.
With Ari and Shadow at the main building
Ari and Shadow made their way to the main building. As they walked, Sophia hollered after them and ran over to them.
"Hey, did you guys meet your dorm neighbors?"
The boys nodded. "Yeah, a couple are actually good guys. What about you?" Shadow asked.
"They're quite colorful, that's all I can say." Sophia responded.
As they headed toward the main building, they ran into the Ras of the group. "Hey guys, you all set up at your dorm rooms?" Sophia asked, like the motherly hen she was to the group.
When the guys nodded, they all started toward the main building again. When they reached the entrance, they met up with Jaden, Anokai, Robin, and Syrus, who Jaden had convinced to come along. They all noticed that Syrus had sour look on his face.
"What's the matter, Syrus?" Angel asked, curious.
"He's kicking himself because someone told him that Slifers were the lowest rank." Anokai answered for him.
"Don't worry, Syrus, the year just started. You'll move up." Sophia reassured him.
"Besides," Jaden pointed out. "Slifer's the best Egyptian God card. My personal favorite."
"I'd have to disagree," Shadow said, trying to sound like scholarly man looking for a debate. "I'd have to say that Obelisk the Tormentor is the best."
The guys laughed at Shadow's antics, knowing he would always say his father's god card was the best. Syrus just looked on, confused at what was so funny.
During the scene though, Jaden felt something brush against his mind, halting his laughter, confused. He had felt something like this before, when he sensed other mutants, but this felt different. He wanted to say it was mutant, but the signal wouldn't come in clearly.
What he could sense was that the signal was coming from inside the building, so he decided to investigate. As he headed inside, the guys noticed he was moving and followed him.
"What you got, bro?" Hex asked, when he caught up to his brother.
"I'm getting a weird vibe coming from inside the school," Jaden explained, still moving, his powers guiding him. "I can't tell if it's human or mutant though."
Hex rose an eyebrow at that. It wasn't like Jaden to be confused in his readings.
"Um, does Jaden know where he's going?" Syrus asked, wondering where they were going.
"Jaden has his own innate sense of direction." Robin explained, looking back at him since he was near the back of the group.
"Sometimes it's right and sometimes we end up completely lost." Phoenix cracked, with a laugh.
The gang soon came upon a large room, realizing it was an arena. The place was huge, with stands all around the walls, and a dueling platform in the middle with wires coming out of the base.
"Whoa. Gotta hand it to your dad, Shadow, this is an awesome duel arena." Jaden said, looking around the place. He could also tell that the signal he'd sensed was coming from in here.
"Yeah, but it doesn't matter where you duel thanks to these duel disks." Shadow noted.
"That's true." Sophia agreed.
Syrus was looking at the field technology, when he suddenly became worried about something. "Are we allowed in here?"
"Sure, we're students here and this is our campus." Jaden pointed out.
"Wrong. This is the Obelisk Blue campus. No Slifer Slackers or Ra Rejects aloud." They all turned to see two guys in Obelisk blazers. They were same guys who were hanging out with Chazz; Torimaki and Raizou.
"Oh, really?" Ares said, not liking these guys at all.
The others caught this and agreed with him. If Ares didn't like someone, they didn't trust them either. It was almost as reliable as Jaden's mind scan.
"That's right," Raizou pointed behind them. "Check out the crest!"
The guys turned to see a large symbol in the shape of Obelisk the Tormentor's head above the entrance to the duel arena.
"This is Blue territory. No Reds or Yellows allowed!" Torimaki sneered.
"Excuse me?" Sophia interrupted, gesturing to Ari and Shadow. "We're Obelisks and we want them here."
"No one asked you!" Torimaki snapped, getting a glare from all people in the group.
Syrus shrank away from them. "Oh, sorry. We didn't know. We'll leave, right guys?" He asked, looking at Jaden, practically begging him with his eyes.
The brunette shrugged. "Don't worry Sy, we don't have to leave. Not unless…" He turned to the Obelisk snobs with a glint of mischief in his eyes. "One of you guys agree to duel me. I'll be a guest duelist."
"Wanna tag duel, Jaden?" Phoenix asked. "I love knocking guys like them off their high horses."
The blue haired student looked at Jaden a moment. "Wait a minute, you're that kid!"
Before anyone could say anything, the brown haired snob turned to someone up in the stands. "Hey Chazz! The applicant who beat Dr. Crowler is here!"
The gang turned to see a taller boy in blue with spiky black hair and cold gray eyes staring down at them, specifically at Jaden. Jaden stared back at the boy for a few moments and realized that the funky reading he was getting was coming from this guy.
He waved at him. "Hey, what up? I'm Jaden and your name is uh … Chuzz was it?" He asked, looking at the Obelisk snobs with a slight smirk.
The kid growled while the others started laughing, knowing Jaden had done that on purpose.
"He's Chazz Princeton and he was the number one duelist back at Duelist Prep School, so you be sure to pay him the proper respect!" The blue haired teen snapped.
His friend nodded. "He's gonna be the next King of Games, the best duelist in the world!".
Jaden scoffed and crossed his arms over his chest. "Impossible!"
"Say what?" Raizou asked confused.
"It's impossible for him to be the next King of Games because that's what I'm going to be." Jaden explained with a grin.
"Careful Jaden, there are a few other people in this room who covet that title." Ari mentioned with a devious smirk, one his father would have been proud of.
"Excuse me, but I do believe that title is my birthright.~" Sophia joked with a smile, getting a laugh from a few people.
Everyone knew that as Yugi Muto's daughter, Sophia was called the Princess of Games, and many people believed she would inherit her father's title. While she believed that the title held a sense of honor, it didn't mean much to her. Though she enjoyed making jokes about it with her friends.
"Careful, Princess, you may end up losing your tiara to the pauper!" Phoenix joked with a laugh, using the joke they had made up years ago.
The Obelisk boys stared at the display before laughing at what they heard, but for a not so nice reason.
"Oh, here we go…" Shadow muttered.
The two boys then stopped laughing and then glared at Jaden. "You? A Slifer Slacker, the next King of Games? That'll be the day!"
Hex made a move to do something, but stopped when Jaden shot him a look that said 'no'. Hex backed down but was not happy about it. He wanted to teach these two a lesson, but he knew better than to cross Jaden when he made that face.
"Can it, you two!" A cold voice snapped. Chazz walked down the ramp a bit to get into their view some more. "Maybe the new kid has a point."
"Uh, whatcha mean Chazz?" Torimaki asked, confused.
"He did beat Crowler after all … and that legendary monster of his. Plus, he did say he's faced a Blue-Eyes White Dragon before, so I guess it takes some skill." Jaden didn't say anything, knowing that an insult was going to come out of that. "Or was it luck? I say we figure that right now."
Jaden looked Chazz dead in the eye. "Bring it!"
"Hey Syrus, we should sell tickets for this!" Robin joked.
Syrus of course didn't get it, but the others did, which caused a laugh.
"Well, this certainly is a motley crew." said a new voice.
They all turned to see Alexis Rhodes enter the room.
"Wow… who's she?" Syrus asked.
Ari shrugged. "I don't know."
'But I would like to find out.' He added in his head.
Chazz smirked. "Hey, Alexis. You come to watch me mop the floor with me new friend Jaden? I promise it'll be a short match, but an entertaining one."
Alexis crossed her arms and lightly glared at him. "I came to remind you guys about the Obelisk's Welcome Dinner, you're late."
"Oh, yeah," Chazz mumbled, getting up and walking away. "Come on guys."
The other two followed him. Jaden stared after them, like if he stared at Chazz long enough he'd figure out what the reading he was getting meant.
"Sorry if Chazz rubbed you the wrong way," Alexis said as she turned toward the group still there. "Not all us Obelisks are like that. He's just a jerk, especially with Slifers."
"Ah, it's no big deal," Anokai said in a laid back tone. "Types like them don't bother us much."
Alexis looked at him, surprised at the reaction. "Besides, I could take him down in one turn."
"Really, Anokai?" Robin asked, getting a sly grin. "I'm sure I could beat him with my eyes closed."
Everyone started laughing at Slifer duo's antics, including Alexis and Syrus.
Alexis then remembered something. "Oh, the Slifer Welcoming Dinner is starting, too."
Jaden smirked, deviously. "Well then, we better get there before the food's gone. Race ya!" He said, then dashed for the exit tunnel.
"Hey, no fair!" Robin complained, running after him, along with Anokai, though he had to run much slower than he would have liked, so as to keep their cover in front of Syrus and Alexis.
"Hey, wait up!" Syrus called as he ran after the Yuki siblings and Anokai.
Just before they left, Jaden stopped and turned back to the female Obelisk. "By the way, what was your name again?" He asked.
Alexis blinked, surprised, then smiled. "Alexis Rhodes! And you are?"
"Jaden Yuki! The two rushing ahead of me are Robin and Anokai!" He replied, then realized what he said. "See ya around!" And with that he took off after his teammates.
"Why didn't you introduce me?" Syrus asked running after him.
"Jaden…" Alexis whispered, testing out the name.
Phoenix laughed. "This is going to be an awesome year."
"Uh, you guys might want to get going too." Alexis said, looking at the Ra's of the group.
Hex got an 'oh crud' look on his face. "Oh snap! The Ra dinner, Bastion was on our case about this!" He remembered, freaking out a bit.
"Okay, quick intro, I'm Leon, call me Hex, this is Ares, Phoenix, and Angel, nice to meet ya, have a nice time! Bye!" Hex then dashed out of the arena, the Ra's he had introduced right on his heels, Phoenix yelling a few profanities and Angel covering her ears so she couldn't hear them.
"Well this year will be fun." Ari muttered, with a smile.
"We should probably get going too, Ari." Shadow pointed out.
Ari nodded, both walking out of the arena, with Ari stealing a glance behind at Alexis before leaving the arena.
Sophia giggled a bit. "Well, that was fun!" She then turned to Alexis. "We should probably get to our welcome dinner, too."
Alexis shook her head. "Not yet. I still have to round up anyone else still hanging around."
"Okay, I'll see you there." Sophia said, walking away, but then stopped and turned back to the other Obelisk girl. "Oh, by the way, I'm Sophia. The two who just walked out were Ari and Shadow. See ya."
With that, the Game Princess walked away. Alexis watched her go thinking that things were going to be interesting this year.
Obelisk Boy Dorm
Later that evening, all the welcome dinners had started. The dinner at the blue dorm was like a fancy ball, with gourmet food, punch bowls, and classical music being played by actual musicians in the background.
Ari was loving the atmosphere, only having been to something like this when his parents were either invited to banquets by colleges or when they held something like this at the family museum. Shadow couldn't care less, seeing as how he was at something like this almost every week because of his father having to go to parties to converse with his business buddies.
"Wow, this place is awesome!" Ari noted, munching on the food he had grabbed from one of the tables.
Shadow just shook his head. "I'll probably be at another one of these when I get home this summer."
Ari laughed, knowing how much Shadow hated social events like this.
"Hey, guys!" The two boys turned to see the boys they'd met earlier, Jacob and Kyle, walking over to them, Jacob being the one who called out to them. "Is this place great or what?"
"I'm going to go with 'or what'." Shadow answered.
"Amen there, brother." Kyle agreed, the other two boys laughing at their friends' indifference to the high life.
Ari then caught murmuring with his heightened hearing and turned in the direction of the voice. His eyes narrowed when he spotted Chazz and his two followers over by one of the windows talking about Jaden and the incident earlier.
Kyle noticed Ari staring at someone and followed his gaze, letting out a sound of disdain when he saw the snob trio. "I take you guys had a run into with Chazz and his lackeys." His comment caught Shadow and Jacob's attention and they turned to see where they were looking.
"Yeah, not the friendliest people in the world." Ari answered, not taking his eyes off them.
"He wasn't always like that," Jacob piped up. "When we first met him, Chazz was actually a pretty nice guy. Then his brothers got into his head and he turned into a world class jerk."
"His brothers?" Ari asked, finally looking away from the trio.
"I've heard of them through my dad," Shadow mentioned. "Slade and Jagger, right? They have this thing going with them and Chazz, something like a world domination attempt. All my dad said about it was that they're not much of a threat."
Ari kept looking at them, his heightened hearing catching something they were discussing.
"No one talks to me like that. Ever." Chazz gritted, seething over what had happened earlier that day.
"What're you gonna do about it Chazz?" Torimaki asked.
"Easy," Chazz answered, smirking. "I'll challenge him to a duel. Tonight at midnight. I'll beat him and I'll make him wager his best card on top it. His Flame Wingman will be mine."
Ari growled quietly. He moved his right hand to his head and used two fingers to brush back a piece of hair. Shadow noticed and nodded lightly.
That was the silent signal they had made to call Jaden if there was trouble. Though their form of "call" involves telepathy, technically.
The Kaiba heir understood and sent out the Bat Signal, or in this case the Psych Signal.
Obelisk Girl Dorm
At the girls dorm, the dinner was just like that at the boys dorm only with all girls.
Sophia was sitting by a window, staring out at the beautiful, full moon night. She had a small plate of hors d'oeuvres next to her that she nibbling on, feeling slightly out of place. She had been to parties before, but it felt weird not having her family or friends there. Outside the group, she was pretty shy.
"Not a big party fan?" The princess turned to see the girl they had met earlier, Alexis, walk over to her and sat beside her.
"Not really," she answered, still looking out the window. "It just feels weird being at one without my friends or my dads here."
"Dads?" The Obelisk queen asked, confused.
Sophie giggled. "I have two dads. Yugi Muto and Duke Devlin. I'm a surrogate baby."
"Wow." Alexis answered, not entirely sure what to say.
Before she could say something, another voice called out to them. They turned to see Clarita, Jennifer, Indigo, and two other girls Sophia had never met before walking over to them. The first unknown girl had brown hair and hazel eyes and second girl had black hair in a ponytail and brown eyes.
"Hey, Sophie!" Clare cried, rushing toward them.
"Hi, Clare. Did you find your friends?" Sophia asked, happy to see her new friends.
"Yup, though it took us forever to get their rooms set up because they were busy horsing around by moving each others stuff out of the other's room." Clare said in an exasperated tone.
Sophia laughed at that. The girls sat down and after a few introductions they started talking about a wide range of topics which eventually led to the topic of boys.
"So, any boys here catch your eye?" Clare asked with a sly smile.
"No, none at all, don't need one." Jenny responded quickly, glaring at her step-sister to not say anything.
"Oh, come now, Janet, every girl falls in love at some point in her life." Indigo stated casually while texting on her phone.
"Ohhhh, I saw that boy, Shadow Kaiba, earlier today!" The black haired girl, Mindy, mentioned excitedly.
"I saw him too, he was hot!" The other girl, Jasmine, interjected.
Sophie chuckled, not wanting to burst the girls' bubbles and tell them Shadow was gay.
She turned and stared out the window at the night sky. She'd never thought much about romance or crushes, mainly because she had never really met anyone that had caught her attention.
"Helloooo? Earth to Sophia!" Sophia blinked and looked to Mindy who had asked her something. "I said have you seen anybody interesting?"
"Not really…" The duel princess responded, still kind of half in her thoughts. She turned back to the window, waiting for tonight with her friends.
Ra Yellow Dorm
At the Ra Yellow dorm, the dinner wasn't as glamorous as the blues' dinner but they still had a great dinner with food you would find at a five star restaurant. And surprisingly, the headmaster was the one who cooked it.
Ares took a seat next to Bastion with Phoenix sitting on the other side of him. Since everyone was sitting in alphabetical order by last name, Angel was seated closer to the front near the headmaster while Hex was seated farther to the other end.
That's when the headmaster of Ra dorm, Professor Satyr, a middle aged man with thick Spanish accent stood at the head of the table. "Hola amigos! I am Professor Satyr and welcome to a new year at Duel Academy! For those who freshmen, welcome to your first year, and to those who are upperclassmen, welcome back. Now without further adieu, let's dig in! Cheers to Ra Yellow!"
With that everyone started eating.
Slifer Red Dorm
At the Slifer dorm, the food was basically take out. It was basically a small bowl of rice, and sardines with sauce. Naturally, most of the Slifers were complaining.
"This is our big, fancy welcome dinner?" One complained to no one in particular.
"Forget the dinner, look at our headmaster! It's a cat!" Another said pointing at a fat, brown tabby taking a snooze at the front of the room.
That joke died when a tall skinny man with long black hair in a ponytail and small round glasses came into the dining area. He seemed nice, and at least he didn't look like Crowler.
"Hello children, My name is Professor Banner," He greeted in a pleasant tone. "Before we eat, I would like everyone to say something about themselves, and you may bad mouth Dr. Crowler if you so wish. What is said here will never leave this room."
Instantly, everyone liked him, because come on, a teacher had just given them permission to talk bad about another teacher. Though things quickly evolved into a conversation around the room about how weird Crowler was and everyone just started eating anyway.
Jaden was only half listening to what was being said. He was still thinking about that weird signal he was getting from Chazz, trying to figure out why the signal was all jumbled. He had also received Shadow's SOS right before dinner started and was trying to piece together what Chazz was hoping to prove by breaking the rules about off hour dueling.
Suddenly, Jaden felt a brush against his mind, startling him out of his thoughts. He looked around, both with his eyes and his mind, to try to figure out where that had come from. He was surprised when he felt the source was from Professor Banner, but when he tried to look closer, he felt a wall stop him. Not like it was trying to push him out, it was more like running into a locked door.
"Now Jaden, it's very rude to go peeking into other people's minds without their permission." Jaden gasped quietly. He had only been looking for students with powers, he hadn't even considered looking for teachers or staff.
"You're a telepath?" The Slifer psychic asked the older male, responding with telepathy.
Banner nodded. "Yes, and before you ask, yes I have also been tracking the students to see how many held gifts, but you are the first telepath I've come across in some time. The last one I had met was two years ago."
"Are there any other adults here with powers?"
"No, I am the only mutant among the teachers, though Sheppard is aware of people like us and of my abilities." Banner responded, smiling slightly as he got a reading on Jaden's power. "I must say though, you have much potential, the level you're at now I reached when I was in college. If you want I can teach you a few tricks of my own."
Jaden smiled. He had a feeling that he and Banner were going to get along just great.
Some Time Later
Later that evening in the red dorm, Jaden was relaxing in his room with his roommates and Anokai, who had managed to drag his roommate along with him. He seemed to be a bit uncomfortable being around the others, but Jaden didn't pry. If he wanted to say why, he would when he was ready.
"Professor Banner's certainly a good cook."
"Yeah, and he seems like a pretty nice guy as well." Syrus agreed, coming over to where the boys were sitting with a tray of tea mugs.
Chumley was up in his bunk like he was sleeping, but he was awake.
"Yeah, he's good people!" Anokai agreed, taking one of cups. "Thanks, Sy!"
Jaden also took one.
"Hey, Chumley, want some tea?" Sy asked the grouchy boy on the top bunk.
"Did I say I was thirsty?" Chumley responded rudely.
"Hey, he just asked if you wanted some tea, no need to snap at him!" Jaden scolded.
"That's okay, Jaden. I'm used to it." Syrus said glumly.
Anokai made a mental note to help Syrus grow a backbone.
"Duh, tea makes you wet the bed!" Chumley argued, then realized what he was implying. "Not that I do or ever did…I mean…whatever I'm trying to sleep!"
"Um, I'll have one…" Dylan said quietly, looking shy and uncomfortable.
"Oh, sure, here you go Dylan." Syrus said, holding out the tray to he could grab one.
"Thanks…" The quiet Slifer said, almost inaudibly.
Jaden looked over at him and got a pretty strong power reading from him. The reading felt unstable, which meant that he had a difficult time controlling his power.
'I don't know what you've been through, Dylan, but I'll help you.' He vowed, looking at Anokai's roommate.
"Whatcha doin' guys?" The boys turned to see Robin and another girl standing behind her, looking shy like Dylan and wearing the boy's uniform. Robin was also holding a cupcake tray in her hands, making her brother and the Wheeler boy's eyes light up.
"Not much, just hanging out. Whatcha got there, sis'?" The hero duelist asked, suspecting full well what it was.
"Oh, nothing, just my homemade spice carrot cake cupcakes with handmade candies on them!" The Yuki girl said proudly walking into the room, knowing the boys loved her treats.
The other girl followed her in, not as confidently.
"All right!" Anokai cheered, taking a cupcake, Jaden not far behind. Everyone in the group knew that Robin was an awesome cook, and they all coveted her treats.
Dylan and Syrus looked at each other and they took some cupcakes. After tasting them, they knew what the excitement was about.
"Wow! These are delicious!" Syrus exclaimed.
"You would definitely make someone an awesome wife!" Dylan added.
"That's assuming Hex and I ever let her get married." Jaden, getting an annoyed look from his sister.
Jamie decided to try one and her eyes lit up in the first bite.
"What do you think, Jamie?" Robin asked her.
Jamie just blushed bright red and took another bite. Robin laughed at her reaction.
"Hey, Robin, who's this?" Jaden asked, nodding over at the twin tail girl.
"Oh, this is my roommate, Jamie," The Fairy duelist introduced. "Say hi, Jamie!"
Jamie jumped at being talked to before becoming shy again. "Hello…" She squeaked.
"Nice to meet, Jamie!" Anokai greeted before slinging his arm around Dylan, startling the other guy.
"I'm Anokai and this is my roommate, Dylan!" Said roommate waved a little. "And up on the top bunk is Jaden's roommate, Chumley!"
"Hey, Chumley, you want a cupcake?" Robin asked looking at the top bunk.
Chumley turned over and looked at her for a moment before taking one. She laughed when she got the same reaction as the others. "Good aren't they?"
"Will you marry me?" Chumley asked absently, not realizing what he had just said until the others laughed.
"Whaaaaat?" Robin said, pretending to be shocked.
"No! I didn't mean that!" Chum tried to argue, but everyone was laughing too hard to hear.
"Chumley, remember that one of her brothers is in here!" Jaden spoke, trying to be angry but his laughter made that impossible.
The laughter was paused when a beeping, ring like sound was heard. In the quiet, Jaden realized it was his PDA signaling he had a video message. Checking it, Chazz's face showed up along with the message Jaden had been anticipating since dinner.
"Hey Slifer Slacker, don't think you're off the hook, tonight at midnight it's on. Oh, and why don't we make it interesting. Whoever wins, gets the other guys best card." with that the video message ended.
"I was wondering how long it would take for this to happen," Jaden said, closing his PDA. "Looks like I get to duel at that arena after all."
"If that's Chazz your dueling all you've got is trouble." Chumley pointed out.
"He's right, Jaden," Dylan added, looking serious. "I've heard of him, he's good. He's probably one of only a few Obelisks who can put their decks where their mouths are."
Jaden just smirked. "Well, so can I."
He got up to get his duel disk. "You guys don't need to come with me. If there's a back up plan to get me expelled for off hour dueling no sense in dragging you guys down with me."
"I'm not so sure this is a good idea, Jaden." Syrus said, nervous for his new friend.
"I'm with Sy on this one, Jay." The male Gem Knight duelist agreed, and he was usually the one who would rush in head first to something like this.
Jaden strapped his duel disk on as he spoke. "Good or bad, when someone challenges you to a duel you gotta step up. There's no choice."
Syrus made an unsure sound, but didn't say anything else.
Jaden turned to the Slifer group and smiled reassuringly. "Don't worry, I'll be okay." With that, he turned to the door and headed out. He also sent a mental message to the gang.
"Change in plans. Chazz just issued a challenge to me. You guys take the stuff to the Abandoned Dorm. I'll meet you there when the duel is over and meet you there. If I'm not there in an hour max, head to where the sub-level entrance is and I'll meet you there."
Obelisk Arena
Jaden reached the arena and found Chazz and his flunkies on the other side of the arena.
"Well, well, well, he showed." Chazz commented.
"You better believe it. I don't back down from challenge." Jaden walked over and climbed onto the dueling platform. Chazz did the same.
"Time to find out if you beating Dr. Crowler was a fluke or a fact." Chazz said.
"Yeah, well, we're going to find something else out too," Jaden responded. "Like whether or not rank actually means something around here."
"Yeah, yeah, just be sure to have your best card ready to hand over when you lose." Chazz sneered.
"You too," Jaden said, going to what his friends call battle mode. "Now, game on!"
Both duel disks were now on and their hands had been drawn. "Duel!"
Chazz: 4000
Jaden: 4000
"Alright, Slacker," Chazz drew his card and looked over his hand. "For my first move, I'll summon Reborn Zombie in defense mode."
Appearing was a decaying zombie wearing a tattered cloak with gray hair and no eyes. Also, the bones on its right hand and foot were visible (1000/1600).
"And I also play one card face down." A facedown card appeared behind the zombie.
"I'm up!" Jaden said. He drew his card and looked over his hand. 'Okay, none of my monsters can penetrate the Risen Evil creature's defense points. I could summon Sparkman and suicide it, but that trap could be one that can summon another monster when one is destroyed and then I'd be defenseless. I was hoping to save my fusions for latter in the duel, but the safest route would be to summon Flame Wingman.'
As he was thinking, he heard a familiar 'coo' sound and looked to see that his Kuriboh card had moved a little as if peeking out from hiding. 'Hey, good to see you Winged Kuriboh. I'm going think that drawing you my first turn was a good omen. I'll use you later, but first...'
He took a card from his hand. "I use Polymerization, fusing Elemental Heroes Avian and Burstinatrix!"
The hero duelist held up the cards of the two aforementioned heroes before they appeared in a flash of light. They then jumped into the air and started to glow.
"Now, appearing to defend those in need, here is Elemental Hero Flame Wingman!" After a bright flash, in the place where the last two heroes stood, stood the monster from Jaden's first duel (2100/1200).
"I don't usually go on the offensive first, but there's a first time for everything."
Chazz just smirked. "I was hoping you'd do that…"
"Why's that?" Jaden asked, not liking the sound of that at all.
"Because the card I played face down was a trap card, Slacker, that you set off!" Chazz gloated.
Jaden growled, he hated being outfoxed.
"Chthonian Polymer, do your stuff!" The face down rose up to show a picture of a man wrapped in flames.
"Man, I hate that trap!" Jaden muttered.
"I had a feeling I'd find you guys here," He glanced back and noticed Alexis walking towards the field. "Chthonian Polymer is a nasty trap. It allows you to take control of an opponent's fusion monster by sacrificing one of your own creatures."
"Yeah, I know. I've had this tactic pulled on me before." Jaden informed her.
"I sacrifice Reborn Zombie to gain control of your Wingman!" Chazz said, smugly.
His monster burst in a flash of light. Then Jaden's favorite hero disappeared in a smaller light flash and reappeared on Chazz's side of the field. Only it's colors were darker and it had a dark raging aura around him.
"Uh, my monster!" Jaden grunted.
"You're so predictable, Jaden. You wouldn't stop talking about that Wingman at the exams, so I knew you'd use it soon." Chazz said like he knew everything, which annoyed Jaden greatly.
"Still, since that Wingman was a special summon, that means I'm allowed to summon another monster during my turn." Jaden countered, looking back at his hand. 'Not that anything in my hand is a match for the Wingman…'
He then looked at Winged Kuriboh. 'Unless you would be willing to make a sacrifice play again, Kuriboh.' The coo he heard was all the confirmation he needed to hear.
Chazz was smirking up a storm. He had the monster responsible for Crowler's defeat on his side of the field and he was enjoying every minute of it.
'Go on you Slifer Slacker, play another monster. After all, I haven't forgotten the Flame Wingman's super power!' He thought deviously as he watched Jaden choose a card from the three left in his hand.
"All right, I summon Winged Kuriboh in defense mode!" Jaden declared as he summoned the winged furball to the field (300/200). "There…all set."
Chazz drew his next card. "Yeah, setup to get knocked down! Rise, Chthonian Soldier!"
A man in dark armor with a large sword appeared next to the stolen Wingman (1200/1400).
"And now, Flame Wingman, attack with Skydive Scorcher!" The winged hero jumped into the air, flames covering its body, and dived down at the Kuriboh, destroying it.
"And now, thanks to Wingman's super power, your life points now take damage equal to your destroyed monster's attack points!" Wingman landed in front of Jaden and unleashed a flame storm on him, but he wasn't worried. Chazz and Alexis couldn't see it because of the flames, but a gold shield at surrounded him, protecting his life points.
"But don't think for one second that I'm done yet Slacker! Chthonian Soldier! Attack! Windstorm Slash!" Said monster leaped into attack, but this time Chazz and Alexis saw the gold shield as it appeared to deflect the blade.
Chazz then finally noticed that Jaden's life points haven't been touched. "What the?!"
"Did you just now notice that?" Jaden asked, starting to get annoyed with his arrogance. "On the turn Winged Kuriboh is destroyed I take no damage! You saw my duel, Chazz, you should have known that! Or were you so busy gloating that you forgot?"
Chazz growled, but kept his composure. "I set two cards facedown and end my turn."
Jaden drew his card. "I activate Pot of Greed and draw two cards!"
He drew his new cards. They were both traps and were both just what he needed to turn the tide of the duel.
"Now, I summon Elemental Hero Sparkman!" This hero appeared human wearing a blue and gold suit with a curved blue helmet (1600/1400).
"I'll also play two cards face down. Alright, Sparkman! Now attack with Static Shockwave!" The new hero shot a bolt of electricity at the dark armor monster and destroyed it.
Chazz: 3600
Jaden: 4000
As the smoke cleared, the soldier's sword rose above them and flew straight at Jaden, hitting him in the stomach. Jaden almost doubled over from the pain, but managed to stay on his feet.
"Surprise, Slacker! When Chthonian Soldier is destroyed, you take the same amount of damage to your life points that I did."
Chazz: 3600
Jaden: 3600
"This isn't over Chazz!" Jaden mentioned, activating one of his face downs. "Not with my Doppelganger trap card on field! Now, every time I take damage from a monster effect that you control, you get dealt that same amount of damage I got!"
An identical sword struck Chazz in the manner that the first one struck Jaden.
Chazz: 3200
Jaden: 3600
"Play what you want!" Chazz growled, drawing another card. There wasn't much he could do with his hand, so he would have to go on the offensive, even if it meant getting singed in the process.
"Go, Flame Wingman!" Flame Wingman's body began to be covered in flames again.
Jaden smirked. "I don't think so! My other card was a trap too!"
"A trap?" Chazz said incredulously. That was twice this duel he had walked into a trap.
"Mirror Gate!" Alexis said surprised, mostly to herself. "Then Jaden's still in this duel after all. Mirror Gate makes two monsters in a battle switch which side they're on. So that Wingman is back with Jaden."
As she was talking, Sparkman appeared on Chazz's side of the field and Flame Wingman appeared on Jaden's side.
"Go, Wingman!" Jaden called.
The two heroes leaped at each other and grappled in the air, with sparks of both their powers flying. It didn't take long for Sparkman to succumb to defeat and be destroyed.
"NOOOO!" Chazz cried as he lost his advantage and some life points.
Chazz: 2700
Jaden: 3600
"And just like you told me a while ago, don't forget my Wingman's super power! You take damage equal to the attack points of the destroyed monster!" Jaden reminded him as Wingman sent remains of Sparkman's power back at Chazz, who yelled in pain as his life points dropped.
Chazz: 1100
Jaden: 3600
"Nice moves, Jaden." Alexis praised and Jaden shot her a peace sign over his shoulder.
"More like lucky moves if you ask me, you Slifer School Scum!" Chazz retorted, glaring daggers at Jaden as he played his next card.
"Alright, I activate Mystical Space Typhoon and destroy your Doppelganger trap card!" A gust of wind picked up and destroyed the aforementioned card.
"Next, I activate Chthonian Blast! Since you destroyed one of my monsters I get to destroy one of yours and you take damage equal to half of it's attack points." A tornado formed around Flame Wingman and then he burst into pixels.
Chazz: 1100
Jaden: 2550
"Flame Wingman!" Jaden gritted as his monster was destroyed.
"Now, I activate the trap card Call of the Haunted!" Chazz continued as his second face down popped up revealing a haunted graveyard.
"It lets me select one monster that's in my graveyard and summon it back to the field in attack mode. Rise, Chthonian Soldier!" The dark armored warrior reappeared on the field (1200/1400).
"But he won't be staying on the field for long, because I'm going to sacrifice him to summon Mefist the Infernal General!" Chthonian Soldier burst into pixels and then a dark armored, mounted horseman with a giant ax appeared (1800/1700).
"Not bad." Jaden commented, looking at the mounted horseman in front of him.
"Not bad?" Chazz looked at him before continuing. "You're something else, you know that, Slacker? Acting all confident, but your lousy monsters won't get you out of this jam."
Jaden looked down at the only card in his hand before hearing the familiar voice of Winged Kuriboh, who appeared next to him in spirit form. 'I know he's wrong Winged Kuriboh, because you, me, and the rest of my monsters share a bond that Chazz won't ever be able to break.'
He drew his next card and smiled slightly. 'And speaking of bonds…'
Before Jaden could make his move, Alexis turned to the entrance, thinking she had heard footsteps. When she confirmed she had she turned back to the group with wide eyes. "Uh, Guys! We've got company! Campus Security! If they find us all in here we'll get seriously busted!"
"What?" Jaden said, looking back at her. 'I'd been so focused on the duel I forgot to keep my senses open for them!'
Thinking Jaden didn't understand, Alexis huffed and pulled out her PDA. "The rules say no off hour arena duels! Chazz knows that but lemme guess he didn't tell?"
Said Obelisk blushed at being found out.
"C'mon, let's go!" The blue haired Obelisk leaned forward from he was watching, the other one looking scared at the thought of getting caught.
"Well, well, Slacker, looks like you lucked out this time." Chazz said, turning to leave.
"This isn't over, Chazz." Jaden said seriously, turning off his duel disk.
"You're right, it's not." Chazz then hopped off the platform and walked out the arena.
Jaden then followed Alexis out of the arena, shutting the lights off on the way out. It was like no one was ever in there. After a while, they made it to the entrance of the main building.
"Thanks for showing me the back way out, Alexis." Jaden said.
"Sure, I'm sorry you didn't get to finish your match with Chazz." The Obelisk female smiled.
"It's okay, I know just how it would have ended anyway." Jaden replied casually.
"Really?" Alexis asked, Jaden turning to look at her. "No offense but from my point of view, it looked like it could have gone either way between you and Chazz before you guys stopped."
"Not after I drew this." Jaden showed her the card he had drawn before they had to make a run for it. It was the spell card Monster Reborn.
Alexis gasped and Jaden smirked. He would have summoned Flame Wingman back to the field and destroyed Mefist, taking Chazz out with it.
"See ya." Jaden said, heading towards the Abandoned Dorm to meet up with the gang, but Alexis didn't know that.
She watched him leave before smiling slightly. 'This is going to be an interesting year.'
Abandoned Dorm
After Jaden was sure he was out of sight of Alexis, he used his powers to levitate to the old dorm. When he got there he knew it would be the perfect place to practice. It was old, worn down, and spooky looking in the dark. No one would come looking around in here.
Jaden walked inside and immediately sensed something dark from down a hall that he was positive lead to the basement. 'Hopefully the guys remembered rule number one of horror movies, and that's never go into the basement after dark.'
He then heard faint music from upstairs and headed towards it. At the top of the stairs and down a hallway, Jaden saw lights on behind one of the doors. He opened it to find the people he was looking for.
"Hey, guys! Sorry I'm late!"
The crew looked up from what they were doing and greeted him.
"No prob, Jay! So what do you think?" Sophia asked.
The room was fairly well organized, with the computer stuff up along the wall near the door and instruments and speakers set up on the other side of the room.
"It looks great!" Jaden approved of the arrangement.
"I'm just thankful they forgot to turn off the power to this place," Shadow commented. "Shall we do a quick sound check?"
"Yeah!" Robin said, jumping up from sitting on one of the amps. "Let's do You're The One That I Want!"
That statement was met with agreement. Everyone got into position for the song, Anokai, Shadow, and Ari grabbed their instruments and Robin and Ares put on some headsets, since this had a dance number with it.
Ares clicked a few things on his laptop and then music started to play. Anokai, Shadow, and Ari started playing an upbeat dance rhythm and then Robin and Ares started singing.
Ares: I got chills, they're multiplying
And I'm losing control
'Cause the power, you're supplying
It's electrifying!
Robin: You better shape up, 'cause I need a man
And my heart is set on you
You better shape up, you better understand
To my heart I must be true
Nothing left, nothing left for me to do
Both: You're the one that I want
You are the one I want
Oo,Oo,Oo honey
You're the one that I want
You are the one I want
Oo, Oo, Oo honey
You're the one that I want
You are the one I want
Oo, Oo, Oo, the one that I need
Oh yes indeed
Robin: If you're filled with affection
You're too shy to convey
Meditate my direction
Feel your way
Ares: I better shape up, 'cause you need a man
Robin: I need a man who can keep me satisfied
Ares: I better shape up, if I'm gonna prove
Robin: You better prove that my faith is justified
Ares: Are you sure?
Robin: Yes I'm sure down deep inside
Both: You're the one that I want
You are the one I want
Oo, Oo, Oo honey
You're the one that I want
You are the one I want
Oo, Oo, Oo honey
You're the one that I want
You are the one I want
Oo, Oo, Oo, the one that I need
Oh yes indeed
You're the one that I want
You are the one I want
Oo, Oo, Oo honey
You're the one that I want
You are the one I want
Oo, Oo, Oo honey
You're the one that I want
You are the one I want
Oo, Oo, Oo, the one that I need
Oh yes indeed
You're the one that I want
You are the one I want
Oo, Oo, Oo honey
You're the one that I want
You are the one I want
Oo, Oo, Oo honey
You're the one that I want
You are the one I want
Oo, Oo, Oo, the one that I need
Oh yes indeed
You're the one that I want
The music ended and those who weren't playing applauded.
"Good run guys!" Jaden congratulated. "I think the acoustics in here are perfect, so I officially dub this our new practice site."
Everyone agreed, but Hex looked nervous. Jaden looked over and saw the nervousness. "Speak."
"You sure this place is safe?" Hex asked. "I sensed something unpleasant coming from the basement and I know you felt it too."
"Don't worry, we'll just stay out of the basement." Jaden assured before addressing the others. "Okay, we have everything set up, now let's head over to sublevels, get everything set up, and then we can head to our rooms for bed."
Everyone nodded, turned off the lights, and headed towards the main by building.
Main Building
Jaden led the group through the back way in that Alexis had shown him and found the spot where the elevator to the sublevels was hidden. He proceeded to place his hand on a particular spot on the wall and it moved in slightly.
The wall next to them slid to the side revealing the hidden elevator. The gang stepped in and the door closed behind them.
"Hm, cozy." Anokai cracked. It was actually bigger than most elevators, but he was one to make jokes.
Jaden rolled his eyes and looked around the space for the elevator buttons. By the door was a keypad with what he believed was a hand print and retina scanner. Jaden typed in a sequence of numbers, pressed his right hand onto the scanner, and then lowered his eyes down to the level of the retina scanner, all of which only took a few seconds.
"Pass code accepted. Hand print verified. Retina scan accepted. Welcome, Guardians." Came a female sounding, robotic voice from the speakers.
As it spoke, the elevator began moving downward. Soon it stopped and doors opened to a place that looked like something out of a Sci-Fi spaceship. Bright lights lit up white and silver hallways and doors lined at odd intervals along the halls.
"Okay," Jaden said, getting over his amazement faster. "There are maps of the sub-levels on our PDA's, so you all know what you need to do and where to go."
The gang nodded and filed out of the elevator to check out the rest of the facility. The first sub-level had pretty much everything, it had their lecture hall, the training room, the danger room, a medical room/lab, and even a weapons vault. The second one had what the group called "sanctuaries" which are rooms that they can stay in before prepping for a mission. The third one is where they keep the vehicles, like the Blackwing jet, ATV's, a helicopter, and several others. That one they'll need to keep on a tight lock.
There was also one other thing on this level that only Jaden, and technically Professor Banner, had access to that he wanted to go check out. He headed down the left hallway until he reached the door at the end. It opened into a large room with an elevated pathway that led to a chair and control panel at the center of the room. The room was pretty dark, lit only by the light from the doorway and the fluorescent lights around the room and along the walkway.
"So, this is Cerebro." Jaden walked into the room and headed for the set up, the door closing behind him.
When he reached the chair, he sat down and pushed a few buttons to start it. The machine whirred to life as he put on a helmet with two wire cables connecting it to the control panel. After pushing a few buttons, Jaden sat back and kept his mind open in concentration, as he would when he was trying to find something or someone with his power.
Seconds later, he gasped as a sudden wave came over him. You see, this device was made specially for telepaths. With it, their powers are amplified and mentally, they can be anywhere in the world and can see and find anyone or anything anywhere in the world.
Which was exactly what Jaden was doing. He almost laughed at how many people and places he was seeing and at fast it was happening, it almost took his breath away. And all of this was happening with only a small amount of power, Jaden only being able to go so far on his own power.
Though like all good things, Jaden had to reel himself back down to reality, and was soon back in the Cerebro room, breathing hard. The leader then disconnected from the machine and powered down, before leaving the room.
He met up with the rest of the gang by the elevator they came down from. "Well, what'd you guys think?"
"Gotta hand it to Shadow and Ares' dads. This place has everything!" Phoenix commented.
"Yeah, though we should make a mental note to keep the students out of the weapons vault." Ari added, and everyone nodded in agreement.
"This place definitely beats using the gym!" Anokai said.
"And who's fault was that?" Jaden snarked, glaring at him, but it didn't have much heat behind it.
"Phoenix started it!" Anokai defended.
"Oh, I started it? Who was the one who used his speed to break into the girl's locker room and scatter their gym clothes all over the floor?!" Phoenix countered.
"Maybe, but I think siccing a tempest on him was a bit overkill." Angel mentioned, causing the weather manipulator to blush, knowing she was right.
"Alright, that's enough," Jay said, slipping into leader mode. "Has everything been set up?"
The gang nodded. "Well, then we're all done here. It's time we head to bed. School starts tomorrow after all."
"Don't remind me!" The speedster whined, making the others laugh.
They then headed back up to the surface and headed to their rooms, all agreeing that this had been an exciting first day at the academy.
Well, it took awhile, but I finally got the second chapter done.
Sakura: And if you read closely, you'll find a hint to a possible prequel.
Anyway, read and review and stay tuned.
