"MY GIRLFRIEND IS A KYUBI"

(Chapter 2: What are you saying?)

Previously…

"Hmm?" and there my jaw dropped. I saw a girl wearing a kimono, with raging fire-like hair and purple eyes looking at me, sitting in front of the T.V. while eating my croquettes. But what got me the most... was that this girl, right here, has not one, not two, not three, but NINE TAILS!

" –y…"

"-ey…"

"Hey…"

"Hey you, wake up"

Ryo's eyes fluttered open; he grunted and rubbed his eyes open. Noticing, he saw the bulb in the room shine brightly, hearing the television noise by his left. How did he get here? Did he fell asleep? Why does his cheek hurt? Why do his legs feel heavy? In fact, what is going on here?

"Hey you, are you still alive?" he felt a hand pull his cheek. Ryo squinted his eyes and looked down, sapphire meets amethyst.

Ryo let out a loud yelp and moved back till he hit the wall behind him.

"Why are looking at me like that?!" the figure spoke angrily "do I look like a ghost to you?!" it said as it stared at his stiffened body. His mouth hung open and his eyes opened wider while holding his red cheek that was being pinched all this time.

"W-w-what…" he couldn't find the right words to say

"Tsk" the figure clicked its tongue and it positioned itself comfortably in front of the television while it munched on the croquettes on the table, ignoring the stunned lad by the corner like he wasn't there.

It felt like hours has gone by until Ryo moved from where he was and approached the figure. It was then that he observed the creature before him. Based by her voice and figure, it was a female. She has striking purple eyes, auburn hair that was tied into a ponytail that reached down to her waist, she wears a long kimono, a beaded crown that circled her head and sandals, and she owned nine, yellow tails. Ryo went by her side and without thinking, he touched her cheek.

The female looked at him with a slight surprise in her eyes. It lasted only for a few heartbeats till he suddenly grabbed one of her tails and squished hard. A vein popped from the girl's forehead and with her right hand, she slapped his face.

Ryo was knocked over to his side and the figure caressed the tail he pressed to groom back her fur "Really, are humans so rude in this era?" she said. After fixing her tail, she glared at him and asked "Human, what is your name?"

"…uh…" no answer

"I asked, what is your name? Or do you have no name?"

"I'm… Ryo, Ryo Akiyama"

"Ryo, huh? That is a funny name." she placed a lock of hair behind her ear "What do you do, boy?"

Ryo still found it hard to answer anything back "I… I'm taking care of this place while my grandfather is away for the weekend"

"I see," she looked outside the window "No wonder I cannot find his presence, and his scent is a few hours old." She looked back at him "You say you carry the blood of the guardian priest, Akiyama, in your veins? Surely, you jest, your aura is far weaker than his."

He didn't understand what she said but what she said in the last part irritated him a bit. And because of that, he found what words to answer back

"Oh yeah? Well, you're a joker, who do you think you are? Sneaking here and saying nonsense like that. And what's with that costume? Do you cosplay or something?" Ryo stopped when he noticed her eyes squint, giving him a darker glare and the hairs in her tails rose in fury.

"Normally, I would have shredded you to strips for your rude remark. However, I would only waste precious time and it will surely bring pain to priest Akiyama." Her features softened and stared directly at him, but with fury still in her eyes. "As you can see, I am a kyuubi, I was sealed long ago in that shrine because of those coward humans. Your, as you say, grandfather, found this abandoned area and rebuilt it with all his effort. He took great care of this place and paid everything with respect."

"So… what does my grandfather have anything to do with this?"

"Your grandfather is the second reason I have not killed you at this moment. This area was long abandoned years ago and with the loss of human presence, my powers have weakened. Priest Akiyama took great care of my little shrine; he would clean it every day and bring offerings. When he has taken over and rehabilitated this area, humans returned and my powers slowly returned as well, but I still do not have the strength to break free from my seal. That was until you came."

Ryo gulped and did not dare answer; he let her continue her story

"Accidents happen, young Akiyama, and your accident has cost me my freedom. You have broken the sacred seal that surrounds my shrine, and it is only in that perimeter where I can freely walk and observe as the years pass by. However, breaking the seal of a powerful spirit such as me comes with a price."

"A… p-price?"

"Exactly," she moved closer to him "You are cursed to fulfill any wish I want and your soul will not rest until you have fulfilled your duty, for eternity."

"E-Eh?! For eternity?! Are you kidding me?! What the heck are you talking about?"

The entity continued on like she didn't hear his retort "To put it simply, you are to become my servant and you cannot escape your fate, for if you do, I will absorb every ounce of life force you have until you age to dust and your existence will be erased." She said with full confidence and pride.

With all of that said, Ryo really lost all the words to say. He decided to just play along with her, thinking that this was all just a hallucination for worrying too much of the accident.

Ryo sighed and said, "Alright, alright, whatever you say. So, what is your wish? Oh! And before that, even if my grandfather fixed this place, he can't just build a shrine without-"

"I thought you would ask that." She gathered a pool of pillows and lied on them "There is another powerful spirit that resides in this shrine, he is an old but powerful spirit that has the power of weather. Your grandfather is a very kind man and so he has granted the spirit's gratitude and he is blessed with good weather and his winter nights will be warm. He resides in the front shrine. As for my wish…" she trailed off and Ryo cocked his head as a sign of confusion when he noticed a twinge of sadness in her eyes.

"Well?"

"…" he waited until she snapped her head back and the furious façade returned to her visage "I haven't decided yet! So you will have to wait. Until then, serve me"

"Yeah… uh-huh… alright, whatever you say, Pumpkin"

"Pumpkin?" she glared at him immensely "Do you take me for a piece of crop?!"

"No! No! it wasn't like that!" he waved his hands up to guard himself from the fiery aura she's emitting "I just don't know what to call you. By the way, do you have a name?"

"…a name?" the fox calmed down and thought for a moment "You may call me Rika"

"Well then Rika, it's nice to meet you" he smiled his signature smile that was famous to swoon girls but she just scoffed at it, it has no effect on her. She took her hand out, revealing a blue ring.

Ryo looked at her cluelessly, "tch, kiss it" she said and Ryo raised an eyebrow

"Why would I do that?"

"Hmph! What a rude human! Are you not taught of etiquette? Just kiss the ring" she demanded, giving in, he took her hand and with a few heartbeats of reluctance, he kissed the ring gently. An aura of azure lit around them

"This is proof that you have surrendered yourself to me, to fulfill your duty to grant my wish" she stated and the light slowly faded away.

To be continued…
