June 2002
Dear Miles,
Have you really moved away? It surprised me that you suddenly left without a single goodbye. Larry says that although you get on his nerves and, in his words, he thinks you are "a swot and a goody-two-shoes", he still thinks you are a great friend. You know, when we all became close friends, Larry referred to us all as "The Three Musketeers". I think we are still like that though. Fighting for justice!
I hope you can write back soon, Miles. We all miss you, and I hope that you don't think that just because you have moved far away you should lose contact with us.
Love from Phoenix
Miles' hand shook slightly as he read the letter. Should he reply? No. Replying to him would only reawaken his memories of all those months ago. Miles shoved the letter into a file and began to focus his mind on a book he bought for himself.
"Don't be tempted," Miles told himself. "It'll just be that one, and then he'll forget."
