Author's note
Hi there, again; it's been a while, huh? but finally, chapter 2 is out; yay!
I've been working my ass off making these chapters, and I definitely took my time writing this one. I promise to upload more chapters more frequently, and chapter 3 is already in the works. (at the time of this writing, that is) In this chapter, I introduced the aspect of switching from different characters Point-of-view. I think this is a really cool thing to integrate into the upcoming chapters, and I will definitely use it more often. In the meantime, enjoy reading chapter 2!
Link was sitting on a cold stone bench, reading a copy of the Hyrulian times magazine Impa had shown him. As he read the cover over and over again in frustration, his mind recalled what she had told him:
"I have no right to ask this of you link," she had said. "but you are one of my top students here at Knight academy. you have skill, ambition, stealth, and bravery, most of all. I want you to go to Hyrule city, infiltrate the Nintendo headquarters, and find my dear brother, and bring him back to me." Those words resonated inside his mind over and over again, like a silent film, stuck on replay. Link ran his hands through his hair. he had been racking his brain on it all morning, but he still hadn't come to a conclusion. Hyrule city? Link had seen photos in magazines and urban planning-films but he had never actually been to Hyrule city in person. he wanted to go to Hyrule city, but the whole idea of infiltrating the Nintendo headquarters to stop the event was absurd. however, Nintendo had been acting suspiciously these past few years, link thought. he ought to report them to the police, but then Impa would have regretted telling him about the whole thing. he sighed and slumped father into the bench.
About an hour earlier, Zelda had woken up with the sweet sound of birds chirping, and it was a lovely sound until she realized that it had only been in her dream.
She was lying down in bed, and the sun was shining down onto her from her bedroom window. she heard the wind rustling the trees in the backyard, and of course, the annoying 'brrrr' sound the vent was making.
"I really got to get that thing replaced," she thought, as she sat up slowly and ran her fingers down her long, light-brown hair, and opened her windows. the wind fluttered at her hair. she took in a deep breath and looked up to the clock above her bed. the time was 9:13 am. she decided to go downstairs to make herself some breakfast. and so she got out of bed, gently, and walked into her bedroom's bathroom. she brushed her teeth and looked at herself in the mirror; her hair was a mess, as usual, and her grey tanktop was stained. she dressed in clean clothes, brushed her hair she and then she was off. She walked out of her room and into the hall. the hall was a wide, open area, with two large glass windows next to the cherry trees that grew beside them. she walked down the silver steps of Gaepora manor and made her way to the kitchen.
there was a note addressed to Zelda, stuck on the fridge door. she read it:
Dear Zelda, it read,
I'm sorry I won't be joining you for breakfast today, sweety, it's a busy day for me at the office so I probably won't be back until long after supper :(
anyhow, have a great first day of summer!
Luv, dad
Zelda groaned. her dad was never usually around for breakfast, and it was always a busy day at his office. oh well, she thought. it was still sweet of him to have left a note. Zelda glanced at the kitchen table. there was a copy of Zelda's favourite magazine: The Hyrulian times. there was a picture of Midna, a model for a company in Hyrule city. the cover of the magazine read: 'Famous model Midna to appear in Nintendo's upcoming event in Hyrule city' what could that possibly be about? she thought.
she turned her attention away from The Hyrulian times to the fridge. there was a nice pre-made sandwich lying in the fridge. she grabbed it and was on her way.
Zelda ran out of the manor, the wind fluttering at her hair and a sandwich in her mouth. the wind almost blew away her Cloche hat, but she caught it just in time. the park was at least 30 minutes away from the manner, so she grabbed her bike as she ran out of the yard. she took a bit out of her sandwich. Hmm, peanut butter, she thought.
An hour later, Link didn't realize the small brown boots that were standing in front of him, as he sighed and slumped father into the bench that he been sitting on."Hi link," someone said; when he turned around, he saw It was Zelda.
"Really?" she said.
And it was so. Link had told her everything Mrs. Impa had told him the other day. surprisingly, he felt a lot better. Zelda, on the other hand, looked concerned. Link watched as she processed what he had just told her. then, out of nowhere she blew a breath and sat up straight and let out a loud, belly laugh; a burst of deep loud hearty laughter. Link's eyes widened, as she let out another big laugh.
"That's the fuckiest, most funny shit I've ever heard!" she said while clasping her stomach. "Oh, god, I can't even breathe now,"
It didn't help him that now no one was taking this seriously. Link thought for a while. why would Mrs. Impa make such a thing up, and why, after that, tell it to Link?
Link slumped back into the bench. this really was a bad habit, as Aryll had put it last night. Link had woken up with a migraine.
He had been lying down, snuggled in bed. He had lifted his head up and looked out the window of his room. the sun was shining onto him, and the streets of Skyloft village were busy as ever, preparing for the upcoming Skyloft festival. He had turned around to look at his Sheika slate. it had been lying next to his bed on a small table, charging; he grabbed it. the time was 9:13 am. he had decided to go downstairs and make breakfast. and so he got out of bed very slowly, and tiptoed out into the hall, careful not to wake up Aryll. he tiptoed all the way downstairs and into the kitchen, and about an hour later, Link had concocted four, poppy seed bagels, with homemade cream cheese. (is that even possible? I don't know. private message me on if so; I would love to try it.) he went back upstairs and headed to his room, to get dressed. as he was doing so, he was greeted by Aryll, who was coming out of her room.
"Hey, big brother, sleep well?" she said.
Link told her yes, and that he had made some bagels in the kitchen, and that she could help herself.
Link dressed up and put on his blue champions hoodie, and of course, his prized green tuque. how he loved his tuque.
They ate while discussing the Skyloft village festival; what they thought was going to happen, who would be there, and they talked about their guest for the week, Aryll's friend, Sheik.
Sheik worked as a Journalist at the Hyrulian times and would be coming over to Skyloft village to see Aryll, but most of all the festival.
She would be arriving in 7 days time; they had little time to prepare what they would do: they decided to make dinner on the day that she would arrive.
"All right, this is what I think," said Zelda, as he was awoken his daze. "You should go up to the high school, it's still open, the teachers are probably all there right now, emptying up for summer, and I want you to go tell Impa what you think, go tell her to explain this fuckery, and-" Zelda grew silent as people started to stare. then, she whispered: "Well, I don't believe any of this, and that's what I think you should do, but now, I have to be somewhere, so I'll see you later, 'k?"Link nodded. he needed some time to think about his next move.
And so Zelda got back on her bike and watched as Link got up from his seat, and walked away back to the village. Little did Zelda know that that would be the last time Zelda would see him for a long, long time.
Zelda was going a different route however; she was going to go meet her best BFF; Medli. When she finally arrived after a long stressful bike ride, she knocked on the door and was greeted by Medli's father; Mr. Revali.
"Ah, hey Zelda. are you here to see Medli?" he said. he beckoned her inside and cried out: "Hey, Medli, Zelda's here to see you!" That was then followed by the small chirpy voice that was Medli's. And so Zelda walked up to the stairs and up to the second floor up to Medli's room. Zelda had come to mainly hang out with her, after hearing Mrs. Impa's story, she needed some time to exhale a bit. Zelda pushed open the closed door to Medli's room that said 'Medli's room' and 'Fuck off, jimla'
Medli was sitting down on her bed, a scrapbook open, pencils and scissors all over her bed.
"Hi, Zelds," she said. Zelda wished she wouldn't call her that, but at the same time, it seemed kinda cute.
Zelda replied with a small nod. her mind was still on Mrs. Impa. she started to have second thoughts. what if Mrs. Impa really was making it up? it all sounded like some, cheap plot by a small fanfiction writer. (hey, don't judge me, I think it's a cool idea) Medli, who was super attentive, almost instantly knew what was going on.
"What's up Zelds? what's Link told you now? does it have to do with Link staying after class yesterday? come on, Zelds. you can tell me anything. "
'you can tell me anything.' the sentence resonated in her head like an echo in a long winding staircase. anything? she thought. there were a lot of things she wanted to tell Medli, but she didn't have the courage to say so.
They ended up talking about what they would end up doing for the summer holidays. Medli told her that she wanted to go see the beach by Koholint island, and Zelda told her that there were plans for renovations at Gaepora manor and that she didn't have anything planned for the summer. then as they were about to change the subject, came a knock on the door.
"Medli?" It was Revali who spoke, he sounded urgent when he spoke. "Medli, it's urgent. can I come in?" Medli quickly got up and opened the door for him. "What is it, dad?" she asked him.
"Is everything all right?" Zelda asked him, concerned.
"The school, the high school, it burned down," Revali said.
Zelda and Medli both let out a gasp of shock, both looking at each other.
Then, it hit her, Link was on his way to the high school. Medli didn't blame her when she fainted.
