A Little Love
Chapter Two
Just Like Tohru
(Kyo's POV)
On our way home, I couldn't stop thinking about Hinata. It even got to the point where I started asking questions to myself: Did she really have fun with me? Was she just pretending to be friendly? Should I try to find her tomorrow? Is she gonna try to find me tomorrow? Is she gonna completely ignore me?
I sighed in frustration. Tohru obviously heard me, 'cause she gently poked me on the shoulder. I looked down at her, immediately noticing her worried smile.
"Kyo-kun, is something bothering you?" she asked me. I looked up toward the stars, my hands being shoved in my dress pants pockets.
"No, I'm fine." I sighed inwardly. Of course it gets annoying always having to cover up my anger (though I don't do it well) for Tohru, but it's even worse when she acts all worried for me… she should never have a frown on her face.
Tohru stared at me for a couple more seconds before looking back at Yuki and continuing their conversation.
I began to walk a bit slower, my face still pointed toward the ground. When I noticed I was falling behind, I jogged up a bit. My eyes wandered over toward Yuki, who was smiling at Tohru, dragging on a looooong conversation about something that I couldn't get into-gardening. Ugh, that damn rat must have some serious patients to be able to do something so stupid and enjoy doing it too. Just shows how much of a girl he is.
I watched him and Tohru speak to each other. How the hell can they hold such an effortless conversation? Yuki turned his gaze toward me and immediately lifted his eyebrows in a cocky-looking question.
"Is there something you want?" he asked with slight attitude. I scoffed and turned my head, crossing my arms.
"Hell no, what would I want from you?"
I kept my head turned for a minute or so, and then looked forward. I saw the house and began to think about turning around and running after Hinata. It was something weird for a guy like me to think about, but I couldn't help it for some reason. I've always hated that about me. Every time I meet someone nice I wanna get all damn "attached". That's why I have to create a reputation. If I don't, then I'll have too many nice people getting to me, making me think a monster like me is allowed to be excepted, when in reality, I can never be. The sooner I realize that, the better for everyone. Besides, I do nothing but hurt people that get close to me anyways... I'm... doing them a favor...
A large sigh came from me as I slid open the door to the house. In my preoccupied state, I didn't notice that I had already kicked off my shoes and was headed for Shigure's study door until I was actually there about to slide it open. I turned my head to see Tohru starting up the stairs and the rat going down the hall. Returning to my previous actions, my fingers gently touched the wood of the door and slid it back. Shigure was typing away with lightening fingers and didn't seem to notice I was there until I lay down on the side of his desk. I usually laid myself on his deck, but it's pretty chilly out. My eyes focused on the open door to his deck and the view of the night sky. Billions of stars shown today, unlike last night when I could barely even find five... Not that I star gaze or anything! That's something a total girl would do, like Tohru or Kagura or Yuki!
... Okay, sometimes I like to count the stars and... Make wishes, but if you tell ANYONE that I will find you and rip your tongue out your throat! Understand?!
"Oh, Kyo-kun, welcome! Did you have fun?" the dog asked in a chipper tone. I could tell he thought he knew the answer already, so I grunted and rolled from my side on to my stomach, by face buried in my arms, and mumbled, "A little..."
"What was that?"
"I said a little, okay?" I asked hashly. Even if I tried, I'd never be able to hold back my frustration when I talked to this mutt.
The typing stopped and the room fell silent. "... Really?"
"... Yeah..."
"You had fun?"
"Yeah."
"... Are you... sure?"
...
"WHAT? Why is that SO unbelievable?!" I hollered, rolling up into a sitting position, facing Shigure with steam practically coming out of my ears and nose, and clenching my fists. He had put his hands up in defense already and sung, "No reason!" before I could yell any further.
I huffed as I crossed my arms and glared at him. If looks could kill, Shigure would have been dead a very long time ago. Or maybe he'd be more careful with the way he talks to me… nah, that mutt is a complete idiot. He couldn't stop being an asshole to save his life.
Shigure chuckled as if he were reading my thoughts
"So, who'd you dance with?" He asked slyly, leaning towards me and poking my arm. "Huh? Huh? Huh?"
He kept on doing it, pissing me off more and more until, finally, I snapped. "QUIT TOUCHING ME DAMMIT! I DIDN'T DANCE WITH ANYONE!"
"Just sway to the beat of the music. See? You don't embarrass yourself."
"Yes, I see. Thank you!"
"Yeah, we never danced..." I accidently said out loud. I cursed under my breath; I could almost see Shigure's tail wagging out of his moss green yukata.
"Ah, so what did you do?" He asked before gasping and covering his mouth with his hand, and disgusted look on his face. "You-You sick, sick, boy! Don't tell me you deflowered someone at a school dance! Didn't anyone ever tell you to wait until the senior trip-"
THUMP! THUMP!
"IT'S NOT LIKE THAT, YAH DAMN PERVERT! WE JUST... SWAYED!"
Shigure sulked on the floor, holding his head as I towered over him. Two fairly large lumps grew in two different places on the top of his head. The smirk on my face was just because of that. Sweet revenge.
"What do you mean you "swayed"?"
"I mean we just moved our bodies side to side without moving our feet..." Shigure smirked.
"Well who did you "sway" with?" He asked, that sly tone slithering back into his voice. I rolled my eyes and sat back down with a thud!, my legs and arms crossing.
"Hinata... Misako..." Honestly, I was surprised I remembered her last name. I never really pay attention to many people when they tell me their names. My stomach felt like it was break dancing at the thought of Hinata. Was she talking about me to her parents? Did her and her friends talk about me? Was she thinking of me now?
"Well, what's she like?" Shigure asked, tail practically wagging out of his yukata. "Details!"
"... Fine... but she better not end up in one of your damn books, yah pervert!"
Shigure nodded eagerly. I almost couldn't believe it myself-I agreed to talk about it… about her… maybe because it would feel more real if I did. Or maybe I wanted an excuse to think about her.
I combed my fingers through my hair and huffed slightly, beginning to speak-
"She's kinda goofy... not, like, Tohru goofy, but almost there. She's kinda stupid, too. A klutz... I mean, the girl was bouncing in her high heels for god's sake! And... You promise not to tell ANYONE about this?" I asked him with squinted eyes, leaning forward with my hands grabbing my legs. Shigure nodded. "That means Hatori and Haru. Especially the damned rat, the snake, or that… that brat rabbit. Got me?"
"Yes, now out with it!"
"... She sorta... makes me... feel... kinda... weird?" I scratched my head, keeping my hand there, and looked to the side with red cheeks.
I need to tell him this... for closure... I can get my feelings for this girl out and then never think about it again... Yeah, there's no other option. Closure or think of her constantly… yeah…
Even though I was telling myself that, I had a hunch that I was, once again, finding an excuse to continue talking and thinking about her… I'm such a fuckin' idiot!
"Ah, young love!" Shigure practically sang. "I remember when I was but a youngster with my first crush. Aimi Tetsuo was her name and-"
"It's not love, alright! It's not like either! She's some dumb girl, that's it!" I exclaimed, my fists clenched on my pants. Shigure raised an eyebrow.
"Kyo, I hate to tell you this, but it sounds like you're in denial."
"What're you talking about? Of course I'm not!"
"See?" He asked before singing, "Denial~!"
I huffed and crossed my arms, glaring daggers at the man. The last thing that was my problem in this situation was denial. She's a stupid girl who I met at a stupid dance at our stupid school and I'll never see her again...
I mean...
maybe I'll see her again... we go to the same school and all... s'not like I'll look for her though...
(Tohru's POV)
Honestly, I had never seen Kyo-kun so unfocused before. In the morning, before we were supposed to go to school, I combed the tangles in his hair, fixed the buttoning on his white school shirt, made sure he was wearing matching shoes-I felt like his mother! It wasn't really a bad thing, but he'd never acted this way before. He must have been in deep thought...
Besides, I only did all that because there was... maybe a tiny part of me that wanted him to look good. You know, if he meets that girl, Misako-san, again.
"Kyo-kun, Sohma-kun, time to go," I called, slipping into my brown shoes with low and big heels. Sohma-kun came down the hallway, followed by Kyo-kun down the stairs. As we exited the house, I began to immediately talk to Sohma-kun. He was almost always the person I went to talk to, you know, to break the ice, though it never worked for Kyo-kun lately. Even when we mentioned him, it never seemed like he heard us. Sometimes I could turn to him and he'd just keep looking forward with a blank stare like he didn't even notice.
"Do you think they'll have the spring dance next year?" I asked, really to both the boys, but Sohma-kun was the only one to answer.
"Well, they might if I pull a few strings," he said with a half-smile.
"I think Momiji-kun and Haru-kun would like that. They seemed a bit sad that they couldn't come yesterday."
"Yes, well, I couldn't really do anything about letting anyone but second years come, but I can at least try to get them to do it another year." Sohma-kun attempted to dodge four running twelve to fourteen year old girls with red uniforms on. He looked nervous when one accidently bumped shoulders with him, but he just continued, "We already don't have dances as it is. If I'm able to convince them that the students really enjoyed it, then Momiji and Haru will be able to have their first and most likely last school dance."
I clapped my hands together with a smile. "They'd be so happy and thankful if you did."
"Well, since you're so sure, I'll try my hardest." Sohma-kun's smile made my face heat up. Kyo-kun grunted-that being the only sound he made the entire trip to school. I gave a wide smile when I saw the school gates.
(Kyo's POV)
The moment we entered the school building, I went in a completely different direction then my normal classroom, ultimately leaving the rat and Tohru behind. Don't think I was looking for Hinata, 'cause I wasn't. I was just walking around... basically doing a whole 'if I see her, I see her' type of thing. Like Shigure's stupid 'que sera, sera', even though I know he's never taken spanish a day in his life... that is spanish, right? Maybe it's french...
A/N: I know it's spanish. Lol, I take Spanish! But Kyo is Japanese and doesn't know anything but his own language and a bit of English.
"Hey, Kyo!"
I whirled around, my eyebrows arched in anticipation. Instantly, my shoulders slumped, my head hung low, and my attitude turned fowl.
Damn brats!
"What the hell do you want?" I asked rudely.
"We wanted to know if your dance was fun," Momiji laughed as if it were obvious. I squinted at him, and then turned to the idiot, who was right beside him. You never really thought about how short Momiji was until he stood next to me, Yuki, Hatori, or Haru.
"It was okay, why?"
"This girl asked about you," Haru admitted, crossing his arms. His hands wrapped around his elbows, his silver rings shinning from the lighting in the school. "She wanted to know where you were."
Momiji jumped in, "And she said you were really funny!"
I blushed.
"You should have heard the way she described you!"
"She called you," Haru started, "a tall, tan, handsome boy with orange hair, shiny red eyes, and a sweet smile."
The blush deepened considerably. So she was looking for me. A part of me, the human part, was jumping with joy... but... the cat in me was making me want to hide in the bathroom or a locker or something! Why couldn't this damned curse get out of the way of my life?!
"Does she know you're my cousins?" I asked them as Momiji began sucking on a lollipop that seemed to appear out of nowhere.
"Nope!"
"Well where is she?" I asked, getting impatient. They both glanced at each other, looked back into my eyes, and shrugged their shoulders. Momiji stuck his tongue out as the two left, his obnoxious voice hollering, "Sorry, Kyooo!" I sighed in frustration and started walking around the building. Since she's looking for me... maybe I should just be nice and make it easy for her...
Ring! Ring!
Dammit!
Ignoring the battle inside my head between the cat and the human part of me, I ran down the hall, trying to find my way to my class from where ever the hell I was. If I saw Momiji and Haru, then I couldn't have been anywhere near Hinata's classroom...
Wait, I wasn't looking for her! Just walking around, that's ALL!
(Tohru's POV)
I sat down in my rightful seat next to Uo-chan's, but Hana-chan told me that she was out sick today. My eyes, intentionally trying to find Kyo-kun, looked around the room. I stopped when Sohma-kun came into the classroom with Kakeru Manabe-san, the vice president. When Manabe-san threw a piece of chalk at Sohma-kun and yelled, "I KNEW IT, YOU'RE AN ALIEN!" I almost let out a laugh.
"Stop throwing things at me!" Sohma-kun hissed, getting another piece of chalk and launching it at Manabe-san. It hit him in the forehead and he yelped, rubbing his tender head. Then the battle was on. They were in one another's face and yelling. The sight was actually pretty fun to see. Luckily, the only people, other than me, in the classroom were guys and didn't care about the situation much.
Seeing Sohma-kun get mad like that... it was kind of refreshing. He would never have done this if he hadn't met Manabe-san. All of his fights were calm and collected. It was always obvious to me that Sohma-kun hasn't showed me much of his real self, but I'll be seeing it very soon if he has such... good friends...?
I jumped out of my seat and came over to them. Sohma-kun immediately stopped, straightened up, and smiled at me with a bit of a sweat drop. "Sorry about that, Miss Honda. I didn't know you were in here."
"Oh, no, it's fine, really! I just... wanted to say something to Manabe-san," I admitted, turning to him. He blinked and crossed his arms, giving me a toothy smile.
"Anything for a lovely lady!"
Sohma-kun rolled his eyes and crossed his arms.
"... Please be a good friend to Sohma-kun," I said with a deep bow and a small smile on my face. Both the boys blinked and Manabe-san yelled, "Of course I will!" at the same moment Sohma-kun said softly to me, "Miss Honda, he's not my friend."
Ring! Ring!
I took my seat, once again, as Manabe-san left. Students piled in the classroom. As they seated themselves, I noticed Kyo-kun wasn't among them. Did he really go look for that girl?
Hayate-sensei came into the classroom and sat on his desk, looking at us with an annoyed expression.
"It seems like we're missing five students today. I'm getting tired of teaching material to brats when, half the time, they don't even bother to show up-"
Kyo-kun walked casually into the room, along with Rai Dodoushi-san. Dodoushi-san went straight to her desk, but Kyo-kun was stopped by an out stretched ruler.
"This is the last time you'll be late to my class, understand, Sohma?" Sensei asked with a glare. Kyo-kun just rolled his eyes and mumbled, "Whatever."
He moved the ruler out of his way and went to his window seat.
"Okay, anyways, today we're learning about..."
After a while of being lectured, Hayato-sensei gave us some papers to work on and left the classroom. He loves to do this. Lecture us for thirty minutes and then leave us to our notes on an in class assignment for the last twenty-five.
People had already started to get up with their papers and talk to their friends as I went over to Kyo-kun. I reached a hand out and taped his shoulder, breaking his concentration on his paper.
"What?"
I shuffled my feet, a bit nervously, and laced my fingers together behind my back. "Kyo-kun, do you miss Misako-san? Were you trying to find her?"
Kyo-kun banged a fist on his table with a blush and an angry look. "Of course not! Don't ask stupid questions!"
I smiled warmly at him and he looked away from me with a sigh. "It's okay to miss her. No one is going to judge you for it."
Kyo-kun sighed, slowly looking out the window. He gave the outside of it a blank and confused stare, making me curious.
"What's wrong, Kyo-kun?" I looked out the window and gasped, "Misako-san and Sohma-kun?!"
(Yuki's POV)
"Hinata Misako," Former President Takei exclaimed, pushing up his glasses, "the student council would be overjoyed if you became the new treasurer!"
Misako-san smiled and said, "Of course, Takei-san, I'll do my very best!" She bowed after that and Takei-san said back, "I'm sure you will."
My head tilted slightly. This girl was almost just like to Tohru with her sweet way of talking and gentle personality... wait...
She's so sweet and gentle and kind. Three things I never really found in people I've known.
That's... strange... so there are more people in the world that are like this... of course, I'm sure she's not exactly like Tohru... right?
"Yuki Sohma," Takei-san called to me. I snapped back to reality, giving a fake smile.
"Sorry sempai. Yes?"
"It's quite alright. Now, today after school, I need you to show Misako around the student council room."
"Alright," I said as he nodded to me with a slight blush, turning toward the building and going inside. Misako-san smiled at me and said, "You're the boy... Hona-san was looking for... No, wait... Honda-san."
I smiled at her with uncertainty. She sighed and grinned. "At the dance! I'm the girl Kyo-kun was with!"
"Yes, I remember you." She nodded and clasped her hands together behind her back with a shy smile.
"So... you and Kyo-kun are related?"
"So I've been told."
Hinata blushed rose pink and mumbled, "Well, uh... c-can you tell him that... I had a great time last night?"
Something told me that wasn't what she wanted to say, but I went with it. "Sure. See you after school."
She smiled at me and nodded, running toward the group of friends with her, wearing the same red gym clothes as her. I retreated back into the building, into my classroom, and back into my seat. The cat and Miss Honda immediately came over to me.
"What do you want, cat-"
"WHY WERE YOU WITH HINATA?!" He demanded, as I winced slightly from the sound of his voice, along with some of the other students.
"Listen, moron. Don't go screaming in people's ears. You gave half the class a headache."
"DON'T TELL ME WHAT TO DO-
"Misako-san is the new treasurer of the student council. President Takei thought it was appropriate for me to meet her beforehand... I'll admit it shocks me how nice she is. She actually acts a bit like Honda-san," I finished, trying not to get my ear blown off by the cats screeching and whining.
It seemed to work, 'cause the tension in Kyo's face went away and he nodded in agreement.
"Yeah, she's also a total klutz, like Tohru." Kyo and I sighed at the same time. Honda-san blinked and put a finger up.
"A-Am I really all that clumsy," She asked. Kyo and I turned to her, talking in sync again.
"Yes, you are."
She laughed nervously and scratched the back of her head while I gave her a gentle smile. I glanced over just in time to see Kyo do the same.
