-Chapter Two-

My body felt stiff while my heart seemed to pound loudly in my ears, already I could feel a lump start form in my throat the longer the Zoro stared at me. He looked almost lost in thought before a sly smirk suddenly tugged at his lips as if amused by the way my eyes widened in a such a frantic manner and looked left and right like they were looking for an escape route. I watched as he opened his mouth, ready to speak, but in the blink of an eye, he was gone. No longer was he standing in front of me or blocking my path, instead he had been knocked back which caused a few people to quickly jump out of his way and curiously stare down at him.

"Dumbass! Quit harassing the young lady!" a new voice had snapped. Curiously I looked towards its owner only to be met by a blond-haired man whose bangs covered the right side of his face. But, the most noticeable feature of his wasn't his eyes nor his facial hair, it was his eyebrow. I couldn't help but do a double take as I stared at the way it curled up inward near the end, creating a perfect swirl that seemed so unnatural. I wasn't even aware that eyebrows could curl up like that.

"Are you alright, mademoiselle?" the blond asked, quick to grab hold of my hands and stare at me with a look of concern as if I had just been badly hurt. His actions reminded me of a gentlemen's and if I knew any better, I would assume he must have had many women swooning over him on a day to day basis.

"Back off, Shitty Cook! This isn't any of your business!" Zoro suddenly snapped as he pushed himself back up to stand, a look of agitation crossing his features as he stared at the blond. I flinched at the sudden punch the moss haired man threw, causing the blond to release my hands and dodge the attack before throwing a kick towards Zoro. It was like a switch had been flipped and something had been triggered because in a split second the two men had tackled one another. Their bodies now a heap of tangled limbs on the floor as they fought, rolling around on the ground as the guest around them were quick to clear out of the way. Some laughing and others already pulling out their phones in hopes of filming the fight.

I sweat dropped before wincing as I watched a long-nosed man not move quick enough before he got knocked over and roped into the fight along with the men. With a small shake of my head, I slowly slid along the wall and slipped into the kitchen, glad to see that it was less crowded than the living room. Some people were leaned up against the counter and sink, speaking to one another as a small crowd was gathered around the kitchen table. All of them chanting the word "drink" over and over in excitement as they watched their friends down drink after drink. My eyes soon landed on the back doors, both open and allowing the cool night air to seep into the kitchen—it was most likely either accidentally left open or was open in hopes to air out the strong smell of alcohol from the house.

From where I stood I could see that they lead out onto a patio that seemed to be lit up by Christmas lights that were either up too early or had never been taken down in the first place. I could see that a few people were already out there smoking while followed by the sound of cheerful laughter and the splashing of water, a high indicator that the backyard most likely contained a pool. 'It's a good place to start than any' I shrugged, if people were out there smoking, then I knew I'd most likely find Zach and Drake out there as well. But, before I could even take a step towards the open doors, my body tensed back up as I felt an arm being thrown around my shoulders and wrapping itself around my neck, pulling me back into a strong chest.

"Hey, where are you going?" I instantly calmed down the second I heard Jack's slurred voice and slowly wiggled my way out of his grasp. Looking at him, I almost snorted at his disheveled appearance, it hadn't been that long since we all separated and already he appeared to be drunk. Most likely having gone for the strong stuff the second he arrived.

"You're such a lightweight" I chuckled, shaking my head as I snatched up the bottle in his hand that looked about ready to slip from his fingertips and shatter against the floor. Taking a small sip of it, I gritted my teeth and scrunched up my nose in disgust, how I hated the taste of alcohol. But, sometimes, it helped in providing itself as a great sedative whenever I wished to forget.

"Hey, that's mine!" Jack whined, lazily reaching for the drink only to fall over the second I took a step back and stretched my arm as far back and away from him as I could. I watched in amusement as his face smashed into the floor and for a second it was silent before the sound of laughter reached my ears. Rolling my eyes, I smiled a little and took another sip from the bottle in my hand, a shiver ranking up my spine at the taste before finally, I sat the bottle down on the nearby counter.

"Hey, do you know where the others are?" I asked, watching as my friend helplessly tried to roll onto his back, it was like watching a defenseless turtle, slow and pitiful. When he finally did succeed, his face held a goofy smile as he shrugged his shoulders.

"I dunno" were the words that came spilling from his lips, that goofy smile of his only widening as I stared down at him for a couple of minutes before sighing.

"Try not to get stepped on" and with that, I simply stepped over his body and reentered the living room. Eyes scanning the crowded room once more while ignoring the two men that were still fighting. The long-nosed man was now free and was now sat off to the side, panting heavily and holding his chest as he looked a little roughed up and shaken by the experience of being caught between two men roughhousing. With a shake of my head, I continued to let my eyes roam before they landed on a familiar head of spiky hair. "Sora" I mumbled, already making my way towards him before stopping.

He looked to be caught up in a conversation with two young women, both very beautiful and for the first time since I arrived, I suddenly felt self-conscious about my appearance and what I was wearing.

"You're looking a bit chubby, sweetie, perhaps you should cut back on the eating."

I shook my head, eyebrows knitting together as I hastily turned around, shoving the memory that had suddenly hit me to the back of my mind and made my way back into the kitchen. Stepping over a now passed out Jack who was happily snoozing away as if he was in his bed back home and not on some stranger's floor. I exited out the back doors and was immediately greeted by the cool fall air, we had just entered October and the weather was slowly starting to shift from those warm sunny days and cold nights to chilly days and even colder nights. Looking around, I was greeted by the sight of strangers mingling with one another as they spoke or played around in the pool. Some had stripped down to their undergarments, probably too drunk—or possibly even high—to feel the chilly air while others were still dressed and not looking bothered by their soaking wet clothing.

I had also been greeted by the sight of three familiar faces. Summer had been the first one to catch my attention, which was no surprise as I couldn't help but stand there for a few seconds. Watching in amusement as she and some raven-haired man wearing a straw hat seemed to happily run around the backyard. Both squealing and laughing as they played a game of tag by themselves. Next was Zach and Drake, one perfectly seated on one of the patio couches with his legs spread out in front of him and a lit cigarette between his fingers. While the other was sprawled out on a lounge chair, green eyes staring up at the stars while occasionally taking a drink from the red cup in his hand.

"Ah, looks like you finally made it out, took you longer than I expected" Drake said the second I walked over to him and Zach. Quick to take a seat on the couch beside the brunet and throw my head back to stare up at the night sky.

"So, how are you enjoying your experience at your first ever party? Is it everything you had ever hoped for and more?" Zach smiled as I limply let my head fall to the side and stared at him with tired eyes.

"Yes, I'm just overflowing with so much joy, can't you tell?" I sarcastically asked, listening to the brunet beside me snicker before he took another drag from his cigarette. "Can I go home?" I quietly asked after a moment of silence. "This whole interacting and getting to know new people isn't really my thing."

"It's not that bad, in fact, this party feels pretty tame compared to most of the ones that I've been to. Surprising considering the location" Drake muttered. "Just give it another hour or two and I'm sure you'll start to feel comfortable."

"What's wrong? Your meme disease acting up again?" Zach teasingly asked, causing me to snort.

"I may suffer from crippling anxiety from time to time, but at least my twin isn't passed out drunk in the middle of the kitchen floor. Being stepped on by strangers and left all alone in such a defenseless state" I said, lips tugging upwards into a wide smile at the sudden scoff that came from my friend as he grumbled to himself.

"Fucking hell, happens every time" and with that, the raven-haired man was up and already disappearing back into the house. Once he was out of sight, I heaved a sigh, slumping down in my seat and lulling my head back to once more stare up at the night sky, taking note that not that many stars were out tonight.

"I'm not going to tell you that you have to interact with the strangers at this party nor am I going to force you back in there" Drake suddenly spoke up, motioning with his head towards the open back doors that lead back inside where many of the people were. "But, it's not healthy to stay locked up in your room, to limit yourself to only socially interact with me and the others. So, why not try to at least enjoy yourself tonight" he said as I sucked in a deep breath of air through my nose before releasing it all out my mouth.

"I know" I mumbled. "I know you're not doing any of this to torture me or punish me for some sinful crime I might have committed. But, you—out of everyone—should know better than anyone else why I don't like interacting with others."

"I know, but I just feel like you're being paranoid. I might not know the full story, but I just think...I just think it's not healthy to sit there and believe that every person you meet is just going to hurt you" I kept my lips sealed as I listened to him, knowing that he was right. It wasn't healthy, to many people being antisocial was a sign that something was wrong. But, when you've been surrounded by toxic people most of your life that just wished to use you or cause you pain, sometimes it was just better to build a wall to prevent any more from coming near.

"I know, but...that's not the reason I want to leave" I quietly said.

"It's not? Then what?" Drake raised an eyebrow, looking pleasantly surprised that my desire to leave did not steam from my distaste of social interactions with anyone that wasn't my brothers or someone from the small group of people that I had the pleasure of calling a friend since childhood. I shifted around in my seat for a second, turning my body around so that I was fully facing the man beside me while resting my elbow against the top of the couch just so I could rest my head in the palm of my hand.

"I had an uncomfortable experience in there with a walking plant, one that didn't seem to understand the meaning of personal space" I said, thinking back to the moss haired man. Sure, he didn't try to grab at me or initiate anything sexual. But, like most people, my personal bubble was only meant to be popped by those that I trusted. Clearly, a stranger that smelt of alcohol and—I won't lie—nice cologne, isn't someone I'd give a pass to come up to me and get all up in my face.

"Was this walking plant cute?" Drake asked before snickering as he raised his hands in mock surrender when I raised my hand. Looking as if I was ready to back slap him. "I'm joking, I'm joking" he chuckled, dropping whatever was left of his cigarette to the ground and squashing it out underneath his foot. "Look, there's a lot of alcohol and possibly a few drugs here, so you're going to get a few people that end up being a bit frisky and straightforward in what they want upon spotting someone cute or handsome" he said. "Just stick to the crowd, don't go off alone and if you still feel uncomfortable, then track one of us down and stay close.

"That way, if any more people—especially walking plants—try to bother you, your roughen and toughen friends can fuck them up" I snorted upon hearing this.

"Drake, you scream like a little girl whenever you see a spider."

"Hey, so do you" the brunet shot back.

"True, true, I won't argue with you there" I nodded.

"Anyways, instead of getting all twisted up and letting one uncomfortable experience ruin your night, just relax and have some fun. I mean, Summer's having fun" Drake said as he motioned towards the brunette and raven-haired man that were now rolling around in the grass. The man's straw hat having long since fallen off and was just hanging around his neck by a thin string.

"Yeah, but that's because she's Summer" I said.

"I bet you Sora's having fun."

"Because he's Sora."

"Okay, maybe those two aren't the best example, but still. Just go back in there for at least an hour and try to enjoy yourself, besides, I heard some of the other partygoers mention that they think the owner of this place has a pet" Drake's lips curled upwards into a wide smile as he said this, looking as if he had just found my weak spot—which he had. I was a sucker for animals, whether small or big and if he said there's an animal possibly in this manor, you can bet you ass that I'm going to want to find it and pet it.

"Alright, I guess I can try and have fun" I said, pushing myself up to stand. With a lazy wave, I trod back inside, taking note that neither Zach nor his passed-out twin was in sight. Perhaps I could track those two down and have a bit of fun with a marker and Jack's unconscious body. Nothing screamed entertainment like drawing on your best friend's knocked out body.

"Oh, there you are" I felt every muscle in my body tense up, jaw clenching and eyes widening as I stared at the moss haired man that now blocked the kitchen doorway. He looked a bit roughed up and his messy hair looked even more disheveled.

"Was this walking plant cute?"

I couldn't help but think back to what Drake had jokingly asked for some reason, maybe because I never really did answer him. The truth was that the man before me did look quite handsome and I'm sure plenty of women would be thrilled to have him staring at them the way he was staring at me right now. But, instead of being thrilled, I felt uncomfortable under his stare. It made me feel like I was the prey and he was the predator, a feeling that I didn't enjoy and had hoped to never feel ever again. I didn't even think twice, the second he took a step towards me and opened his mouth to speak was the second I turned on my heel and booked it.
