Here's the first chapter of the story. Hope you guys like it, and I'm sorry it took so long for me to update.

His big bottle green eyes held unshed tears as he stared out his mother's minivan's window. It was Kendall Knight's first day of the third grade, and to say he was nervous would have been an understatement. The little 8-year old was a trembling mess, shaking from head to toe. He would continuously bounce his knee up and down in anticipation. He didn't want to go back to school; he dreaded the place filled with screaming children, grumpy teachers, and bullies who tried - and succeeded - in making his life a living hell.

He was just starting to live his life; he was too young to have to deal with the cruel words that were spat at him on a daily basis. The heart-shattering words that forced him to lie awake at night, wondering what it had been that he had done wrong. What horrible crime had he committed that he was forced to endure such torture? And not only was he criticized and judged, he was also pushed around like nothing, punched around like a punching bag, thrown to the ground like a sack of potatoes. It was a pitiful life. It was something no one his age should have had to endure ever.

"Kendall, sweetie, we're here."

The tears he had been holding back flooded down his face like a waterfall. He sat frozen on the backseat of the minivan, eyes blown wide in fear. Mrs. Knight sighed as she turned around in her seat, seeing the frightened look sketched all over her little boy's face. She hated to see him like this, and knowing there wasn't much she could do.

Deciding against just dropping him off in the entrance of the school, she decided to park the minivan in the school's parking lot. Once they were parked, she unbuckled her seatbelt and got off of the van, then walking to the back side of the van and unbuckling the little blond's seatbelt. As soon as her arms wrapped around him to get him out, Kendall started to squirm in her grasp, begging to be set free. A heartbreaking scream departed past his lips, causing a few bystanders to stare quizzically at them.

The woman offered them a forced smile, not wanting anybody to question her about what was going on. She tightened the hold she had on Kendall, running a hand through his hair in a comforting matter, in hopes to comfort him. It took a while, but after a few minutes, the little boy stopped squirming. He clung to his mother's shirt with his tiny hands, now begging for her to not let him go.

"Kendall, please." Slowly, she set him down on the ground and kneeled down to his eye level. She brought him into her arms once again and planted a kiss on the top of his mop of dirty blond hair. "I know you don't want to be here, but there's not much I can do, baby. I'll be here as soon as you get out, okay?"

"I… I… But what if… What if you don't come back? What if something happens to you, a-and you go to heaven like daddy did?"

Mrs. Knight was forced to hold back her own tears at the mention of Kendall's father. "Baby, that's not going to happen," she whispered, not wanting to speak up in fear that she would break down right then and there. "I'll be here, I promise."

Kendall let out a soft whimper but nodded his head hesitantly. Taking that as a good sign, Mrs. Knight took his little hand into her own, and started to pull him towards the school's entrance.

Kendall was small for his age, not just in height but in structure too. Because of this, he was an easy target for bullies, and almost no one took him seriously. But the blond was smart and very clever, even at the young age of eight. He was also very sweet and kind, but of course, no one took the time to get to know him. All everybody saw was this scared little boy; someone frightened, who was easy to mess around with and push around.

Mrs. Knight sighed as she walked in through the school's doors, Kendall clinging to her. Their footsteps echoed on the white tile floor. Kendall turned this way and that, his small body trembling with fear. He knew no one would try to mess with him while his mother was around, but he couldn't help the fear running through his veins.

"Come on, Kendall," Mrs. Knight said once they were in front of the classroom door. She opened the door and gently laid a hand on Kendall's shoulder. She bent down and hugged him tight, kissing his forehead. The blond's eyes started to fill with tears once again, but she knew she had to do this.

"I'll be back soon," she whispered quietly. With that being said, she walked out and closed the classroom door behind her. While Kendall's mind was telling him to run after her, he stood in place, watching the other kids, who were seated around circular tables. It seemed like everyone was joined in on a little group of four. Everybody except him.

"Hi."

The 8-year-old jumped up in surprise, startled by the small voice. He turned in his heels, meeting a familiar face; pale face, big, chocolate brown eyes, spiky dark brown hair, and dimples. None other than Logan Mitchell himself.

"H-hi..." Kendall mumbled. His cheeks turned a rosy pink in embarrassment, gaze falling to the floor. Logan took a step towards him, his eyebrows knitting together in confusion.

"I know we never talk, but do you want to sit with me? Do you... Do you want to be my friend?" the brunette questioned.

Kendall looked up then, his emerald eyes meeting Logan's brown ones. He could see nothing but kindness reflecting off of them, but he was scared. What if Logan was just pretending? What if Logan pretended to be his friend, and then suddenly left him? Or even worse, what if he took advantage of him? There was something about the boy that made him feel uneasy. He just didn't know what it was.

"I... I guess," he said uneasily. Logan smiled, reaching his hand towards Kendall and taking a hold of his wrist.

"Come on, we can sit over there," he said with a smile as he pointed to an empty table on the back of the classroom. Kendall followed closely behind, all the while hoping that by trusting Logan he would not be committing one of the biggest mistakes of his life.
