Donna is lying limply in his arms. The Doctor Donna who wanted to spend the rest of her life travelling in the Tardis, with him. Donna Noble, who never met a man that called himself "Doctor", who never encountered any aliens, who never visited far away galaxies and long gone cultures. Donna Noble who always misses it all.

He rests her body on the floor gently and sets the Tardis to their next destination. The capsule's ground rumbles under his feet and then they stand on the street in front of her house.

"Help me!"

When Wilf opens the door, he is kneeling before it, her head resting in his again a journey ends. Never again will he pick her up for a trip, her eyes shining blatantly with excitement.

And then they stand in her room, still sleeping Donna Noble lying in her bed, her expression peaceful like a child's. He doesn't really know how they got there. What he knows is, that when Donna awakens, she won't know him. Never again smile at him with that loving expression, never again call him "Space man", never again shout at him or tell him that he certainly won't mate with her.

And then she is awake and treats him like a stranger. He is a stranger. No recognition in her eyes, her smile not genuine, but polite. It breaks his heart.

She asks, what it is, she missed this time and he wants to laugh.

"You didn't miss anything. How could you possibly have missed it? The one person it all centred on. Most important woman in the whole wide universe. The Doctor Donna who saved us all."

But he can't say it out loud.

Back in the Tardis, the door closes. He is alone.

All alone.
