Unspoken, Still Heard

Chapter 2: Reveille

Kate Todd's POV

It had been months, months since Ari Haswari had kept Gerald, Ducky, and I hostage, months since he showed up later at my apartment and we had had a brief make out session, and months since both Ducky and Gibbs began to suspect I knew more than I was telling. Which, was true. Nonstop for the past few months Gibbs had been searching for a name, the man's name. The name that I knew, and yet, I said nothing. Part of me screamed to tell Gibbs what I knew before I got in too deep, but the other said that I could deal with that when it came. If it came, that if I told Gibbs then I would be breaking a trust that didn't necessarily need to be broken. Either way, it was a little late now. I knew he only held us hostage on orders, he hadn't wanted to, but he had no choice. And I could tell that Gibbs knew that I knew something, but he had no proof, it was one of his gut feelings. For once, it was one that might hurt more than help. He had already, so bluntly, asked me why I hadn't stabbed him, and I had already begun the story, his eyes. At least that part was true. Everything was already put down, he had already listened to what I had said, so now it was too late to take it back, if I had wanted to. But I couldn't convince myself to regret not telling someone.

But still, it had been months since I had begun to spin this web of lies and he hadn't contacted me. Not once. And now, now I was in a car, where two of his thugs had taken me. Great. This couldn't get any worse could it?

-Oh yes, yes it could.-

The bastard, Bassam, had slapped me twice, and I was handcuffed, trapped. But as soon as I got out of the handcuffs, so help me, he would be on the ground begging for me not to shoot him. Provided that I got my gun back.

"Do they suspect I was at your apartment?" Ari asked once we were alone, his tone gave away how worried he actually was. I looked at him, confusion written all over my face, he was actually worried. About me. He was worried about me.

"Ducky thinks he heard your voice, and Gibbs, well, he just suspects in general. Besides, of what concern is it to you?" I asked, letting the hurt of months of no contact flow through me. I looked up, noticing he wasn't in front of me anymore. I narrowed my eyes, expecting the worst.

"I'll show you," he whispered in my ear, before spinning me around, crushing my mouth with his lips. I circled my hands around his neck, while he ran his fingers through my hair and down my back, placing them on my hips. My heart skipped a beat as he deepened the kiss. Emotion flooded us both, emotion we couldn't hold back, even if we had wanted to. Which, we hadn't. His hand flicked up, putting something in the back pocket of my pants.

"I think it's time to return you to NCIS," he whispered, breaking the kiss. It took all of my strength not to laugh, that comment was just like him. Leave you wanting more, well, his method, it certainly worked, in both directions. I could tell by just glancing at him, that it took all of his self-control not to kiss me again. I smiled warmly at him, knowing I had made the right dissension in trusting in him, despite what Gibbs or anyone else said.

-At NCIS-

"Ducky, I swear, I'm fine," I protested for what seemed like the hundredth time. I closed my eyes, wishing they would all just leave me alone. Just until I read the note Ari had left for me. Just until then. I re-opened my eyes, jumping slightly at the sight of my team standing there, in the space that had been unoccupied just seconds earlier.

"Kate," Gibbs addressed me, "Did that bastard, Ari Haswari, do that to you?" My eyes widened in shock, they knew his name?

"You guys found out what his name was?" I asked, already knowing the answer, but was just trying to buy time before I had to recount what had happened when Ari had 'kidnapped' me. All except the parts where we were kissing, the team didn't need to know about that. It was just between Ari and I, they had nothing to do with it. And with any amount of luck, they never would, but lately I hadn't been the model person for luck. But who knew what was going to happen any time soon, because I sure didn't.

"Yes, Ari Haswari. Now answer the question," Gibbs commanded.

"I already knew that, and, no, he didn't do this. That was a different bastard, Bassam was his name," I answered, only realizing my mistake after it had been spoken. I had just admitted that I knew his name. Shit. So things could, obviously, get worse.

McGee's eyebrows arched with confusion, "What do you mean you already knew what his name was?" Inwardly, I cursed myself for not thinking before I spoke, I would have to be careful telling them what had gone on, that was unless I wanted them to know Ari and I had been kissing. Which, I did not.

"Well, that's what the other people kept calling him. I kind of figured it out," I responded easily, as if it was the most simple answer possible. It wasn't, no, there was one other answer that would have worked just as well, but, that wasn't for their ears. The team nodded, seemingly satisfied with my answer, all except Gibbs and Ducky. They shared a glace, a glace saying that they thought more was going on. And I couldn't understand that, how could they suspect something, I hadn't done anything that looked suspicious. So why did they suspect me? Other than the fact that it was true, but there was no way in hell they could know about all that. There was no way.

-Later at Kate's Apartment-

Ari flicked his wrists, and seconds later, I was on the ground. Again. The one problem with getting an expert to teach you extra self-defense, they always know more than you. Especially if they work for Mossad.

"You try," he commanded, grabbing the edge of my shirt for me to do the move. I moved slightly, getting ready to move when out of the corner of my eye I saw a small red dot hovering around Ari's shoulder. My eyes widened in surprise. A sniper.

"Get down," I hissed, pulling him to the ground, barely a second before a bullet came through my window, glass shattering everywhere.

A/N: A cliffhanger! Now, do you think I would really be that mean? Looks like it. Any who, the more reviews, means the sooner I update *grins mischievously*. REVIEW!
