Chapter 2 – Damn short legs!
The Great Hall was always so...crowded. I'm not claustrophobic but it doesn't take much to feel that way in a room only just big enough to hold the whole school. It would be like filling a container that is already overflowing, and what use it then?
"Is there such a thing as a spell of invisibility?" I asked no one in particular as I huffed about existing.
"Not sure, we could raid the library for a book or two about it late. First food!" Eve fist-pumped the air in front of us.
I laughed, "You make it sound like we are criminals planning to steal from a library."
"I know right, such fun adventures." Of course, we'd never contemplate stealing but what's the harm in having a bit of fun with ideas.
We walked into the Great Hall along with a bunch of other people for lunch. Yes, I say people because I eat lunch in a room full of strangers. We chose to sit midway down the Ravenclaw table.
"Hang on doesn't your cousin have a cloak of invisibility?" Eve inquired.
"Yes but that would, in turn, cause my family to ask why I suddenly need the cloak. That would be questioning lasting longer than a day at the Ministry getting questioned when all your really need is a form to be signed by your mum."
She shrugged, "Fair enough." We focused on our food for a while. I looked across the hall and saw Dominique. My half Veela cousin who likes to flirt with boys and is a classic loud Weasley in Gryffindor. Then there's the rest of the brood in Gryffindor, consisting of; Lily Potter, Louis Weasley, Lucy Weasley and finally my younger brother Hugo. And the sorting had thought there were many in our parents day. These days when a new Weasley family member enters Hogwarts he's not even surprised anymore. That just leaves Albus Potter, who I call Al because we're pretty close, over at the Slytherin table. He needs glasses like his father and unlike his older brother James – who graduated last year. I wonder how he is doing these days, he was a real terror while at school let alone out in the world. May he'll be in the news again.
A disadvantage to being the offspring of those who saved the Wizarding World is that the press and the attention from newspapers and journalist wanted to know about your boring life because your parents are famous. I have resorted to hiding every chance I get. I guess I will find out about the family gossip soon enough with Christmas in the near future.
Hang on. Christmas. My whole family in one place. Shit.
"You know, I have never really considered myself to be all that start, yet here I am, in the smart house." Eve chuckled as she filled her plate. On any other day, I would have joined her in the joys of rolls and pies and tart desserts. I took only a small portion of things as I felt quite like I got off a broom doing loops for hours.
"Hmmm, nope there is definitely something up, you are not eating the way you usually do." Eve crossed her arms and turned her body to face me.
She was looking at me with a raised eyebrow expectantly.
"I will tell you later," I pleaded then said in a quieter tone, "in a place that is quiet with no people."
She caved and we were about to get back to eating, or in my case not eating, when Eve elbowed me was looking across the hall. I followed her eyes and it was Scorpius Malfoy who was looking straight at us.
"Why is he looking over here?" I asked myself aloud.
He started to stand up, my gut told me he was coming over he to chat. I can't deal with an idle chat with Scorpius Malfoy at this moment as I fret about so many other things. Before I knew my flight response kicked in and I was leaving while Eve said, "How would I know? Oh looks like he's going to get up, do you think he is coming over here?"
"Sorry got to run," I said while speed walking as fast as my short legs could carry eventually Scorpius was gaining ground because of his hot long legs. Damn short legs! Yes, I did say hot because you have to be blind to not notice it. Once out of the Great Hall I sprinted down several corridors and heading straight to the girls' bathrooms.
Safe. Good thing it was the bathrooms I went to because I promptly threw up. A day in the life of Rose Weasley: running, hiding, as of recent temporary residence in the girls' bathrooms. I wonder if I could stay at Hogwarts over Christmas. But just one flaw and twenty problems. She has never asked to stay at Hogwarts before, so it's unlikely her parents wouldn't get suspicious. The twenty problems were her family members.
"Rosie," Al called from outside in the corridor. If they create any more attention then things will go south very fast but how do I do it without making an appearance? I entertained the idea of making a sign but lack of materials resulted in a an interesting happening.
A conversation from behind the door. "I'm fine Al."
"Rosie if you're fine then come out here and say it to us."
Us? Right, Scorpius followed me didn't he. Come on Rose, think. Act like I'm really mad maybe they will go away.
"Albus Severus Potter, if you don't leave right now I will tell Aunty Ginny you got detention!"
"Ok ok I give, just let us know if you need anything ok?" Al backed off. Phew.
"I will, thank you." When I heard them walk away I let out a sigh of relief. I saw myself in the bathroom mirror. While I do look like the new ghost, I couldn't help but feel chuffed with my smart thinking in the situation.
"You witty Ravenclaw. Why thank you." I said to the mirror.
It's probably a good thing the bathroom was currently empty.
I heard the door creak open. I turned to seen Eve walk in.
"Oh my Merlin, you just gave me a heart attack." I sighed again.
"Mate I was in a panic because you vanished out of nowhere. So we are square I think." She chuckled but then she turned serious. "Ro, what's going on?"
I took her hand and led her away to a unused classroom. "Ok so Merlin, um, I'm pregnant."
"Shit"
