After Helena left the ClockTower she didn't waste any time, she quickly let her feet carry her to the police station. Without a care, she walked in as if she belonged there and made her way back to Reese's desk. She didn't say anything to him at first, she just stood there in silence waiting for him to notice her.
She didn't have to wait long because he looked up at her and jumped slightly, "All this time and you still manage to sneak up on me." Reese said with a shake of his head. "Anyway, let me guess you're here to tell me about the woman from Bludhaven that was found in the subway this morning?" He asked leaning back in his chair. Helena blinked giving him a questioning look. Reese raised a brow, "You don't know? Wow, the all knowing Oracle is slacking off." He laughed.
Without a word, Helena leaned over snatching the file off his desk. She quickly opened it looking over it. Shaking her head Helena growled, "Damn it, that's why he's here..." Reese blinked. "Wait who's here?" "Bruce ..." "Your dad? I thought he retired from... you know." "Yeah him and me too, but apparently not. Barbara said he needed 'help' bet he's wondering about this woman. If she's from Bludhaven then he's probably tracking her." Helena replied as she looked through the rest of the folder, "So do you know anything else about her?" She asked letting her eyes lift to meet his eyes. "Not really she's still just a Jane Doe right now. But her body is at the morgue." Reese replied as Helena tossed the folder back on his desk.
"C'mon let's go." She said heading towards the door, "You're coming with me to the morgue. We'll find out who this Jane Doe is, and I can get Bruce out of my city." Helena said matter of factly. Reese rolled his eyes, "Okay then..." He said grabbing his coat and car keys.
It didn't take long for the pair to make it to the morgue. Helena didn't waste any time getting out of the car and heading inside, with Reese coming in behind her. She didn't even stop to talk to the attendant she just made her way towards the back, Reese rolled his eyes, as he flashed his badge to the male, "She's with me. We need to check out the Jane Doe from this morning?" The male nodded walking back with them, he moved towards the table, pulling back a sheet to reveal the woman. "What's the cause of death?" Helena asked the male since he was in there. Though she really just wished he'd leave so that she could get the info she needed her own way. "I'm not for certain yet, but she has petechial hemorrhaging in both eyes, so it could be anything from strangulation to just something more simple or even complex." He answered her, lifting one eyelid so that they could see the reddish purple lines from the ruptured blood vessels.
But Helena wasn't paying attention to that. She was busy pulling the sheet down a little farther, "Strangulation really? Looks to me like she was stabbed genius." Helena said mockingly, as she pointed out a stab wound. "She was yes, but that wouldn't cause hemorrhaging in her eyes." He explained. Meanwhile, Helena groaned, "Can we just examine the woman ourselves without your input?" This was exactly why she worked alone. Idiots like this tried her patience. Not that she knew a damn thing about dead bodies, but Barbara would be able to figure it out easily with the Delphi once she'd gotten the information. "That's not..." He began but Reese cut the man off "Just give us a minute please, I promise the body is in good hands." The man finally nodded and agreed, "Five minutes." he added then walked out.
Helena rolled her eyes, "And he claims to know what he's doing?" She muttered before moving to find a syringe and a test tube vial she moved back to the woman. "That guy was just trying to help, and what the hell do you think you're doing?" Reese asked watching her. "Relax Reese I doubt he'll miss a little blood. I'll have to come back later with the scanner but that guy won't be here so it should be a lot quieter." Helena told him as she drew some blood from the woman's arm carefully before dispensing it into the vial and put the lid on it. "Hopefully Barbara can make something of this for now and at least be able to tell us who this woman is." She said as she slipped the vial into her pocket. Without another word, she tossed the syringe into the needle collection bin before heading out.
Reese shook his head and sighed as he followed her out. "Thank you," he said to the attendant walked out. "Helena you could ..." it was then that he realized she was gone. He sighed "I hate it when she does that." Groaning he got into his car headed towards the clocktower knowing that's where she'd go.
With her metahuman abilities, it didn't take Helena to go to get to the Clocktower. Once inside she made her way to the elevator, keying in the access code she quickly stepped in and rode it up to the top floor. Getting out she headed towards Barbara's desk, she didn't even acknowledge Bruce's existence as she spoke. "I got you a present Barbara." She said pulling the vial from her pocket, putting it down on the desk. Of course, Barbara looked at her confused but before she could question Helena she went on. "A woman from Bludhaven was found dead this morning in the subway. That's her blood. I'll take one of the scanners and get you some images of the body later. But for now, the best I can tell is she was stabbed and has some kind of stuff in her eyes."
Barbara nodded as she picked up the vial, "Kat get the DNA test kit would you?" She asked of the teen then looked back at Helena, "What kind of 'stuff' in her eyes?" Helena, of course, shrugged, "I don't know that guy was pissing me off, some kind of hemorrhaging." She replied, Barbara thought a second and spoke, "Petechial?" Barbara offered as she handed Helena one of the handheld scanners. Helena took it as she nodded, "Yeah that. But the idiot didn't seem to think the stab wound was the cause of death. Seemed pretty straight forward to me." She said as Katharine returned with the DNA kit. "It's because it's not how she died, Helena. The stab wound isn't deep enough to have killed her... at least it wasn't on the other victims." Bruce said finally cutting in. "Whatever, the point is this woman died here, but she's from Bludhaven, so you tell me, old man, why is she here and who did this?"
Bruce shrugged slightly "I don't know yet, but we're working on it. Which is why I wanted to see if you'd help with this. Victoria, Dick and I can only do so much." Helena rolled her eyes as she watched Barbara getting the blood sample ready for the kit. Sighing Bruce spoke again, "Helena do you remember the night your mom..." Helena growled quickly cutting the man off "Do I remember? Are you out of your damned mind?! Of course, I remember there's not a day that goes by that I don't think about her and that night. But you have no right to talk about her. You were nowhere to be found when she needed you!" She spat bitterly. "Helena, I have my reasons, your mother understood that." Helena shook her head in disgust, "Whatever! But what's your damned point, Bruce? Huh? Some psychopath is killing people and you suddenly have a conscience? Because it's too damn little too late, you couldn't save mom because you were off doing god knows what. I won't be pulled into this. I'll do my damn job and catch this son of a bitch but as for 'going with you' you can just the idea out of your head now." She hissed turning to go.
"Are you ever going to forgive me?" He asked her. Helena actually nodded, "Yeah, of course, the day my mother walks through that door." She replied with a growl then looked to her sister, "When you're done pretending he actually give a shit I'll be on sweeps."
Katharine sighed giving her dad an apologetic look then moved to go with her sister as Helena headed out. Barbara had no clue what to say, Bruce knew better than to bring up Selene with Helena, but on the other hand, Helena was out of line. There was just no convincing her of that.
Once the pair left Barbara sighed, "I'm sorry Bruce." He shook his head, "Don't be, I knew it wouldn't go over well. She'll hate me until I'm dead, I know she wishes it was me rather than her mother that night. And truth be told sometimes, I do too." He sighed, "I'll send Victoria back with the info we've gathered so far." Bruce said as he headed towards the elevator, "Take care of yourself, and my girls." he said before walking into the elevator.
