Disclaimer: I don't own Sailor Moon!
"I'm here!" Usagi announced once she made it up the shrine's stairs.
"It's about time," Rei said. Her eyes fell on Usagi's little brother as he follow her into the room. "What is Shingo doing here?"
"I'm babysitting," Usagi explained simply. She took a seat between Minako and Makoto.
Rei bit back a groan and managed a smile. "Oh, well," she said. "The more, the merrier. I wish I knew you were coming, though. I would have made more tea."
"It's okay," Shingo said. "I don't like tea anyway." He plopped into a seat between Minako and Rei. "So," he said with a clear of his throat, "what do you guys do at these little meetings?"
The girls looked around the table, each waiting for someone to volunteer a believable answer. "We gossip," Minako lied.
"That's it?"
"Yep," Usagi said, nodding her head. "That's all."
Shingo made a face and stood up. "Boring," he whined. "I'm going to hang out with Yuichiro." He walked out the walk.
Usagi snickered. "I guess he couldn't take being in the room with older, beautiful girls, after all."
Makoto raised an eyebrow. "Do I want to know?" Usagi smiled and shook her head.
"Well," Minako started. "Now that Usagi's brother is taken care of, I think we can call this meeting to order. First order of busi—wait a second. Usagi, where's Mamoru?"
"Studying," Usagi replied. "He has exams coming up. It's better if he's left alone."
Minako nodded in understanding. "Anyway, first order of business. Ami?"
Ami opened her computer and turned the monitor so her friends could see it. "Ever since the battle with Galaxia," she said, "I have been carefully watching around the world for sudden energy spikes. Everything was calm until about a week ago."
Usagi shifted in her seat. That was when her nightmares started. Was that something she should mention?
Ami continued, "Originally I assumed it was the aftereffects of the Silver Crystal because most of the spikes occurred around your house at night, Usagi."
"My house?"
Ami nodded. "But lately, the spikes have been larger and more scattered. Though the Silver Crystal is very powerful, it would not give such spikes without Usagi feeling the effects. This can only mean one thing. Something is coming and it is potentially the most powerful thing we have seen."
The computer began to beep, first quietly but soon the beeping became loud and erratic. "What's going on, Ami?" Rei asked.
"I-I don't know," Ami turned the computer around began typing on it but to Usagi, most of the actions went unregistered. Were the spikes related to her nightmares? Were her nightmares a way of the Silver Crystal telling her that something just as dangerous was on its way?
"A massive energy spike," Ami reported. "It's the biggest one yet. It's getting larger! It's- It's—." A streak of light flew by the window with extraordinary speed. There was a distant crash that shook the surrounding area.
The girls rushed to the window. "Was that a meteor?" Usagi asked with wide eyes.
"Whatever it is," Ami said, "that's where the energy is coming from."
"Should we check it out?" Minako asked.
"Not yet," Ami shook her head. "I'll use the Moon's satellite to analyze it. We can see it tomorrow if it's safe."
In the outskirts of town, a group of hikers trekked up a hill. Among them was a young couple. The woman sported auburn hair put into a messy ponytail. Her bright green eyes focused straight ahead. She gave an arrogant air, telling everyone that she was the best, no ifs, ands, or buts about it. She gave the aura of perfection.
The man who accompanied her was visibly insecure compared to his perfect girlfriend. His dark hair just barely fell in his light blue eyes. He panted heavily as he struggled to carry the backpack of both of them and catch up with the group.
"This way, everyone," the guide instructed.
"L-Lamia," he panted. "Wait. I need a break." He peeled the backpacks off of his aching back and slid to the ground.
Lamia rolled her eyes but stop anyway. "We're going to lose the group, Dracul. Pick the bags back up. Let's go."
"Wait a second!" Dracul insisted. That's when the light streaked the sky. It crashed nearby with a loud boom and a flash of light.
"What was that?" Lamia asked excitedly.
"I don't know," Dracul picked up the bags and stood. "Maybe we should catch up with the group now."
"Are you kidding?" Lamia asked in disbelief. "I think whatever it was landed nearby. Let's check it out!"
Dracul's jaw dropped. "You want to go towards the creepy explosion?"
"Well, duh," Lamia replied. She stepped through the bushes and looked back to her boyfriend. "Well? You're either with me or you're not, Dracul."
Dracul caught the double meaning easily and quickly followed the girl. The smoking trees gave away the path to the meteor with ease. The two continued to walk until they came to the clearing the meteor created. The trees that were unfortunate enough to be in the meteor's path were scattered around the newly created crater. Some of the now dead trees were still on fire. Dracul let out a low whistle. "Wow. Look at the damage."
"No time," Lamia said. "Look at what's in the hole!" She pointed to a small brelough sack. "There's no way that little thing caused all of this!" She carefully and slowly descending into the crater.
"L-Lamia!" Dracul cried. "Be careful!" He slid off the backpacks and followed her into the crater.
Once she was on stable ground, Lamia ran to the sack. "It's hot!" she announced. She opened the sack and brought out a small black cup. She stared at it silently.
"It's…it's a cup?" Dracul said with a frown. He touched the cup and felt suddenly overcome by its beauty. He noticed the detail in design. He noticed how seductively the light reflected off of the small blue inscriptions and jewels that covered the cup. "Give it to me!"
"No!" Lamia screamed. The two fought over it, letting out roars and screams, yanking it back and forth. The cup began to glow. A dark glow began to travel from the cup until it covered both of them. There was a flash of light.
Gone was the young couple. It its place was a girl with dark blue skin. Her eyes were narrow and piercing red. Her perfectly manicure nails were gone and long claws replaced it. Sharp fangs poked out of her lips. She wore a tight-fitting dress made of snakeskin.
Dracul's skin became blood red. His eyes were gone. All that remained were two black eye sockets. His hair became longer and covered his face whenever he leaned forward. He let out a low growl. He wore a tattered outfit made of fur.
The cup floated above the two transformed people. "You are my servants now," a raspy voice whispered from it. "Lamia… the man and child eater. Dracul…the demon beast. Do as your namesakes. Get human blood to fill me."
Lamia and Dracul roared together and jumped in different directions. The floating cup chuckled evilly. "Soon, I will have enough blood to finish what I started one thousand years ago…"
Usagi sat in Mamoru's apartment that afternoon, silently watching him as he worked. He wrote in his notebook quickly, making beautiful pen strokes. He wrote in English, Usagi noticed. She inwardly sighed, knowing exactly why he did so. If it wasn't for Galaxia, he would be writing in English at Harvard.
Shingo played video games in Mamoru's guest bedroom. The sounds of the game could be heard through the door but besides that, the apartment was quiet.
Mamoru put down his pen and close his notebook. He stood. Usagi grabbed his sleeve in panic. "Where are you going?"
"Just to get a drink of water," he said with a soft laugh.
Usagi blushed and removed her hand. "S-sorry."
Mamoru walked to the kitchen and pulled out two cups. He glanced at Usagi before pouring both cups. "Usako," he said. "Is something bothering you?"
"What makes you ask that?"
"Well," Mamoru walked back to his seat and handed one of the cups to Usagi. "You seem a little jumpy. You've actually been acting like this for a while now. Do you want to talk about it? Does it have something to do with Galaxia?"
Usagi sighed. There was nothing she could hide from Mamoru. He could read her like a book. "I've been having nightmares. Really bad ones." Mamoru raised an eyebrow, as if telling her to continue. "It's so weird. I've never gotten so many nightmares from fighting enemies before, especially since the enemy is already defeated. I'm just afraid that you'll disappear again… And now that Ami says there might be a new enemy…"
"It's okay, Usako," Mamoru caressed her cheek and gave a reassuring smile. "The nightmares will go away soon. I'm sure."
Usagi smiled. "Thank you, Mamo-chan," she kissed him softly.
He smiled and turned back to his schoolwork. He began writing again before speaking, "Don't you have homework to do, too, Usako?"
Usagi stood quickly. "Look at the time!" she exclaimed. "I bet my parents are home and waiting impatiently for their darling children to come home!" Mamoru just smiled at his girlfriend's antics. Usagi made her way to the guest bedroom and knock on the door. "Shingo! Come on! It's time to go." She waited for a moment for there was no reply. She sent a glance to Mamoru. "Shingo?"
Mamoru frowned and walked over to the door. He knocked. "Shingo? Come on, kiddo!" Still there was no reply. Mamoru opened the door. The bed was empty. The video game controller was abandoned. The windows was open.
Panic flooded Usagi's mind. She rushed to the window. "Shingo!" she cried out of it. She looked around frantically for any sign of her little brother. That's when she caught a glimpse of what seemed like a large snake turning the corner of the building. She threw a leg over the windowsill.
"Usagi!" Mamoru cried and pulled her back in. "Are you out of your mind?"
"Something has my brother!" she cried. "It was climbing the wall! It just turned the corner! I saw it! I know it has Shingo!"
"So you're going to climb out of an eighth-story window? How will killing yourself help him?"
Tears welled in Usagi's blue eyes. "What should I do?"
"Come on," he took her hand in his and pulled her through the room and to the front door. "We'll catch them from the roof." They silently agreed that the elevator would be too slow for their intentions and dashed through the doors of the staircase. The two practically flew up the stairs until they got to the door labeled "roof access".
Usagi twisted the knob in vain. "It won't open."
"Step back," Mamoru warned. He kicked the door open without remorse. They ran through the door and to the roof's edge. Usagi peered down the side of the building. "There!" she exclaimed. She pointed to a snake-like figure, carrying her younger brother in its mouth. He dangled helplessly. He was still conscious, she noticed, but did nothing to free himself.
The creature looked up at the sound of the yell. It moved Shingo from its mouth to one of its arms. It let out a roar and used its free arm to scale the building. It jumped onto the roof and revealed its entire form.
Usagi shuddered. She had seen hideous creatures in her adventures but this one took the cake. She stiffened her body. "Let go of my brother!" she demanded.
The creature hissed and glared at the couple. "Usagi," Shingo struggled to say through numb lips. "Don't! It has venom!"
The creature threw the paralyzed boy aside. He slid over the floor of the building. The creature roared again and charged at them. Usagi and Mamoru dived in opposite directions to avoid the attack. They meet again behind the creature. "What should we do?" Usagi asked. "We can't transform. Shingo is watching."
The creature turned around and growled. It charged again and again the two dodged. "We might not have a choice," Mamoru said once they were together again.
The creature, seeing that its approach was ineffective decided to use another one. She lunged and the couple reflexively jumped. "Wait," Usagi realized with wide eyes. "It's going for Shingo again!" The creature grabbed the young boy by his neck and dangled him over the roof's edge. It looked back to them, daring them to take a step. "No!" Usagi cried.
The creature let him go to let him drop from ten stories high. "Shingo!" Usagi screamed as she ran to the edge herself and jumped off.
"Usagi!" she could hear Mamoru cry her name but there was no time to respond. She had to save her brother.
She brought her arms close to her body to hasten her fall. She came within arms' length of her younger brother and pulled him to her. Once he was (relatively) safe in her arms, she gripped her brooch. "Silver Moon Crystal Power," she quickly yelled, the ground swiftly approaching. "Make up!"
As soon as she gained access to her wings, she gave one powerful flap that sent both she and her brother back up. She continued to fly until she landed on the roof next to a panting Tuxedo Kamen, gripping of his shoulders. "It's fast," he reported. "It wouldn't let me get to you."
Sailor Moon gripped Shingo tightly her arms. She wouldn't risk let him go again. "Your shoulder," she said softly.
"It grazed me," he waved off the injury.
She looked at the creature through narrowed eyes. "I'm getting rid of it," she said, anger slipping into her voice. She shifted Shingo to one arm and summoned her staff with the other. "Silver Moon Crystal Power Kiss!" she yelled the attack.
The creature's speed became its advantage once again. It dodged the attack with ease. It looked to Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Kamen with what seemed to be excited curious curiosity. Sailor Moon braced herself for another attack.
Yet, it did not come. As quickly as the creature came, it left, leaving two dumbfounded heroes and a temporarily paralyzed boy in its wake. Sailor Moon looked to Tuxedo Kamen with confusion in her eyes. "What was that?"
