I think inspiration has struck... I'm writing this at 10PM, on a 3ds.
Elemental Ties
Uraya was a beautiful land. Saffronia trees in iconic shades of red and orange were getting ready to shed petals, while the pure waters below sustained a wide variety of life. And many ledges overlooked it all.
Perun looked out over it all, a strangely sour look on her face.
"Is something wrong?" Asked another blade. Tall, male, holding a pair of scythes.
Perun looked out, relaxing her stern expression. "No. I was just thinking about us. Blades, that is. Each element is attributed to a certain personality trait. Bravery, Compassion, Truth, and Justice."
"That's correct." Said Roc. "Wind and Ice are both associated with truth."
"But I always seek justice, as does Godfrey. Surely that means I should be a light or dark blade?"
"Hm."
"Why? Most other blades have that trait shining through." Asked Perun. She saw a few volff running along the cliffs below her, and almost without thinking planned out the ideal way to handle a fight against them. Just go for the leader hard and fast, and then switch to a defensive stance if you want to kill them all, or scare them off. So simple she didn't even lose track of the rest of her point. "Look at Wulfric, or Perceval, Floren, Brighid, Adenine... I simply don't get it. Am I somehow failing to be who I should?"
"Of course not. And I can give you two very good reasons." Said Roc. "Number one, if you think you're failing to live up to expectations after saving those children in Mor Ardain, then I have no idea what standards you hold yourself to. And number two, what do you think you're doing right now?"
"...Questioning myself?"
"You're looking for the truth of a matter." Said Roc.
Perun perked up. "Oh. I didn't think of it that way!"
"Heh. You're not normally one to doubt yourself." Roc seemed like he might have smiled, if he had lips.
"Perhaps. But that makes it all the more important that I make sure I really am right. If I might ask you something else?"
"Go on."
"..." Perun needed a moment to decide what her question would be. "What would you believe defines a knight? I've dedicated my existence to being the best knight I can be, but still I have yet to reach my very strongest."
"Let's see... You're like my opposite in a lot of ways. You never fight dirty, you always challenge enemies fair and square, and your sense of knightly chivalry is unquestionable. You're already a paragon in our eyes."
"You make it sound like you're not. Don't sell yourself short, Roc." Still, Perun could hardly deny that Roc fought to win, first and foremost. If he had a chance to win easily with a strike from behind, then he would.
"Wasn't going to. I don't have a problem with fighting dirty. It's not honourable, but it works. And it works very well. I couldn't train you without damaging who you are. That virtuous attitude is what defines you as a knight, And my practical one is what makes me a good mercenary leader."
"Hm. Very well. Then I'll have to stay true to myself. Mark my words, Roc- Justice and Truth don't occur naturally. Humans and Blades create them, and I'll fight to mete them out until the day my core breaks."
"An admirable goal. Very much your own."
"I am Perun." A small smile crossed her face. "Always have been, always will be."
Author's notes: Meh, may as well make a collection of H2H's. Not open to requests unless you've written a story for XB2.
