Hello all! This is an updated version of my Steve/OC story, Wreaking Havoc! I was unhappy with the opening and such so I decided to rewrite it. I hope you enjoy!
As always, all I own is my character. Everything else belongs to the MCU and Disney.
A one-year time jump has occurred between the prologue and this chapter.
It's been over a year since I was rescued. True to Steve and Sam's words I became a part of a family again. The Avengers welcomed me with open arms - Clint and Natasha especially, the two assassins breaking down into tears when they saw I was alive all this time. While Sam searches for the Winter Soldier, Steve, the Avengers and I have been taking down HYDRA facilities. And today is the day we take the last one. Hopefully it's the last one.
Tony Stark - Iron Man - has made it his personal mission to help me control my powers, especially because the nightmares I used to have caused any metal furniture and lights near me to short-out and crumple into themselves. His exact words were "Either we get your shit together, or I'm surrounding you with glass and plastic."
So yeah, it took almost six months, but I've finally figured it out. Mostly. For example, I wear metal bracelets, armbands, necklaces, rings and steel-toed boots so I can levitate. I'm still getting the hang of the whole "electromagnetism thing" - I keep causing brownouts and blackouts if I'm not really focusing. But I've lessened the amount of nosebleeds I get when I do my "magnetism manipulation" shtick.
I sit next to Nat as she drives one of HYDRA's many upgraded jeeps, Clint in the back shooting the soldiers with his arrows. A man in a suit based off Tony's flies next to us, and I hold out my hand and close my fist, causing him to go tumbling to the ground.
Thor swings his hammer and knocks down the soldier attempting to shoot at us from his own vehicle before flying into the sky with a roar, landing up on a look-out deck and taking care of the men shooting down. Tony flies through the air, swerving and shooting at more of the men in suits. They say imitation is the best form of flattery, but I don't think he appreciates HYDRA's creation.
Hearing the roar of a motorcycle I look over to see Steve driving through the ground forces, dragging and throwing soldiers before throwing his shield like a frisbee. Noticing a car following him I hold out my hand and yell, stopping it in its tracks before flipping it backwards and into the vehicle behind it.
The Hulk yells out a roar before tossing a tank in the air, and it soars over our heads. I close my eyes and concentrate on levitating, rising into the air and moving towards my green friend. The Hulk holds out his hand and tosses me up so I can grab onto another flying soldier.
The man screams and tries to shake me off, but I only punch him. Knocked unconscious, I take his arm and fire his guns at his partners before releasing him, flipping down onto the ground and watching as my ride crashes into a nearby tree. I run ahead with the others and jump over a small barricade, flipping forward and kicking down various soldiers before standing and pulling my black hood back over my green locks and metal headband.
Whistling, Tony comes and picks me up by my armpits. We fly up towards the old Sokovian fortress - one I used to hike to when I was a child and visiting family - and I hold out my hands, stopping bullets mid-air while knocking other soldiers over. Tony turns and his back hits the invisible field around the building. We bounce off and he holds me tighter.
"Shit!" He yells.
"Language!" I snort at Steve's words. "Jarvis, what's the view from upstairs?" He asks Tony's AI, who was programmed into one of Stark's satellites as well.
"The central building is protected by some kind of energy shield. Strucker's technology is well beyond any other HYDRA base we've taken."
There's some grunting, then Thor says, "Loki's sceptre must be here. Strucker couldn't mount this defence without it. At long last."
"'At long last' is lasting a little long, guys." Nat quips, and I laugh, grunting as I knock some more soldiers aside.
"Yeah, I think we lost the element of surprise." Clint adds.
"Wait a second. No one else is gonna deal with the fact that Cap just said 'language'?" Tony asks. "Dan?"
I roll my eyes. "Fine. Babe, we've talked about this. Bad words are okay when you're old enough to use them."
On the other end of the comms Steve laughs. "I know. It just sort of slipped out."
"Tony, drop me off on the northeast side. I'm going to see if I can shut down the shield."
"Aw, I wanted to do that." Tony tells me.
I laugh. "Yeah, yeah. I'll do you a favor and not short-circuit the computers inside."
"Thanks, Sailor Jupiter." I roll my eyes and he sets me down where I asked before returning to taking out the canons guarding the fortress. I close my fists and fling my arms up and out, effectively shutting down the two closest to me.
I slide on the icy ground, scraping my bare bicep in the process. It's all in the name of dodding five soldiers. Standing up behind them I whistle, then hold my fingers out to rip their weapons out of their hands and send the high-tech guns flying to the ground below, out of reach.
"It's the miracle!" One yells in German, and I nod.
"Yep. Sure is." I kick him in the stomach then punch the two closest to me. Levitating above them I close my fists, smirk at the green energy around my limbs. The men scream as I send them crashing into the fortress shield, and they bounce off and tumble through the air, groaning.
"Sir, the city is taking heavy fire." I hear Jarvis say, and lose focus on the task at hand to turn towards Novi Grad, the city my parents were from. Where my cousins most likely still live.
"Well, we know Strucker's not gonna worry about civilian casualties." Tony responds.
"I can -" I try to start, but he cuts me off.
"No. We need you here." He orders, but not unkindly. "Jarvis, send in the Iron Legion."
Willing myself to move away from the city I turn to the fortress, angrily sending men flying with a wave of my hand.
I hear a grunt through the comms, then Natasha yelling "Clint!"
Steve grunts as well, and I stop moving, concerned. "We have an enhanced in the field."
"Are you alright? How's Clint?" I ask, dodging a cannon blast and short-circuiting the weapon.
"Somebody want to deal with that bunker? Thank you." I hear Nat say, and I flip over a structure, kicking another soldier in the face.
"Honey, we really need to get inside!" Steve yells at me. I huff.
"I'm trying." I mutter, Tony landing in front of me and shooting the rest of the soldiers. He nods at me and I close my eyes, focusing on the thrumming of the shield. It pumps in my veins, and I close my fists, concentrating only on what needs to be taken down.
"Glitch did it! Drawbridge is down, people." I hear Tony announce, and I open my hands. Feeling a trickle down my nose I rub under it and groan.
"Ani? What's wrong?" Steve asks through the comms.
"Nosebleed. I'm fine. Nat, how's our bird?" I ask.
"Clint's hit pretty bad. We're going to need evac." She tells me, voice even.
"Find the sceptre!" I hear Thor yell.
"And for gosh sake, watch your language." Tony adds. I snort.
Steve sighs. "That's not going away anytime soon."
"Not if I can help it." I tell him. "C'mon Tony, there's a computer inside with your name on it." I levitate up and Tony grabs me under the armpits once more. He twists as we crash through the glass window so I don't get injured, then turns once more. Bullets fly and I hold up my hand, stopping them mid-air.
"Guys, stop. We gotta talk this through." Tony quips, then shoots back at the soldiers, sending them to the ground in pained moans. "It was a good talk."
"No, it wasn't." One man groans. I roll my eyes and let the bullets crash to the floor. Tony sets me down.
"I take it you're going to chase down dear old Baron?" He asks me.
I nod. "Yeah. He has two years of hell to pay for."
"Roger that." He flies off and I step over the groaning men.
"We're locked down out here." Nat tells us, and I creep through the halls.
"Then get to Banner. Time for a lullabye." Steve orders. "Ani, I'm en route."
"Copy that, Cap." I respond, continuing my walk. Finally I run into Steve, who's helmet is off. He gives me a wink then we both kick a soldier into another room, where we come face to face with the man who made me what I am today.
"Baron Strucker." Steve greets.
"How's it going?" I ask, and the man focuses on me.
"If it isn't our first miracle, come home to roost."
I roll my eyes then move my hand to the side, slamming the Baron into a wall. The man gasps in pain. "Well, it's been two years. I missed our time together. Tell me, how is HYDRA's number one thug?"
"Technically I'm a thug for SHIELD." He quips.
Steve walks towards him to stand next to me. "Well then, technically you're unemployed."
The man looks between us and smirks. "I see HYDRA's weapon has gotten close with Captain America."
I growl, teeth bared. His monocle snaps, the glass and metal falling at his feet. "I'm not your weapon."
"Where's Loki's sceptre?" Steve asks.
"Don't worry, I know when I'm beat. You'll mention how I cooperated, I hope?"
"I'll put it right under 'illegal human experimentation." Steve responds, and I give him an approving wink.
"How many are there?" I add. Suddenly Steve is knocked down the stairs, and a red burst of energy knocks me into a wall, holding me. I blink, leaning my head forward.
"Wanda? What are you doing here?" I ask in Sokovian. My cousin releases me then quickly retreats, the doors slamming closed behind her.
"We have a second Enhanced. Female. Do not engage." Steve announces to the rest of the team as he comes up the stairs, appearing to be unhurt.
"You'll have to be faster than -" Steve slams his foot down on his fallen shield and knocks it into the Baron. The man collapses with a pained groan, eyes unfocused.
"We got Strucker." I tell the team.
"Yeah, I got something bigger." Tony says. "Thor. I got eyes on the prize."
I just nod and hold out my hands, green energy surrounding my fingers as I rip the bannister from the stairs. Steve graciously picks up the now unconscious Baron and I groan, a little tired. It takes me a few minutes to wrap the steel band around the man like it's rope, and when I'm done one of Tony's Iron Legion suits breaks into the facility, taking the Baron from Steve.
I wipe my black gloved hand under my nose once more, wiping away the blood. I groan in frustration when I notice the tears in black my v-neck top and pants, lowering my hood and releasing my green locks.
"You okay?" Steve asks, walking to me and gently removing the blood from my face.
I smile up at him - it's only a five-inch height difference, so my neck doesn't cramp. "Now I am. Thank you."
"Of course, Ani." He leans down and presses our lips together, and I smile into the kiss. After a few moments we break apart, and I take his hand in mine.
"C'mon. Let's check on Clint. Tony can handle the rest." I tell my boyfriend of almost a year, and he nods.
"Roger that." We walk through the open doors, the Iron Legion flying in to secure the rest of the facility. The further we get from HYDRA's research base, the lighter I begin to feel. Because it's finally over. I'm finally free.
