This year, the Capitol has pulled out all the stops and hasn't spared any expenses. The arena, being the most beautiful and godly site seen by the human eye. All the tributes, lined to the brim on their pedestals, in complete awe at their surroundings.

They look to the azure blue sky, decorated with perfectly formed white clouds, which float calmly in the cool breeze which carries the scent of wildflower throughout the arena. Perched in the centre, the golden Cornucopia stands tall, littered with supplies and weapons which can both benefit the tributes and be an obstruction to the tributes as they proceed through the games. A crisp green meadow is the immediate surroundings to the Corncuopia, which stretches on for miles in each direction. In the far distance on one side, is a forest graced by tall miraculous maple and birch trees, and on the other, tall snow-capped mountains which touch the sky in their tall bulky stature. The sound of a flowing waterfall is heard throughout the stretch, covered by the countdown of the clock, leading the tributes to their iminate doom.

The cameras pan around, scanning across all the tribute's faces, who look around in admiration at the Gamemaker's work. All except Haymitch of District 12, who has his gray eyes locked on the Cornucopia. He browses over all the supplies, in his mind selecting what he is going to grab. The sight of a gleaming knife which leans up against a crate meets his fancy, and he moves into a ready position.

Ten seconds left on the countdown, and the spirits in the Capitol are at an all time high. Cheers are heard throughout the entire Capitol square, and betting is greater than ever, with the career tributes topping the pool.

The sound of the gong floods the arena, sending chills down everyone's spine, but to the surprise of the Capitol, only one tribute is sent forward sprawling for supplies. Haymitch sprints towards the Cornucopia and snags the knife from the crate, and ready's it to fight. To his surprise though, every other tribute is still locked in place on their pedestal. He stands confused for a split second, wondering why they are not doing the same thing he is, but he takes it as a blessing and shakes himself out of his thoughts. He quickly whips around to see the largest pack, which he scoops up and slides onto his shoulders. With a quick smirk, he takes one last look at the tributes and runs out of there. Un-harmed and un-noticed.

Seconds pass, and the first tribute awakes from the arena's hypnosis. Kinely of District 9, leaps forward and scoops up a bag full of dried fruit and assorted nuts. She looks around confused as well, but quickly sprints to her ally's pedestal. Wynona from District 10 stands looking at the sky, when Kinely grabs her arm and startles her out of her slumber.

"We have to go!" Kinely shouts, while the confused Wynona gawks at the other tributes dazed. "Come on!"

Kinely takes off towards the mountains, with Wynona trailing behind her. Moments later, more tributes start awakening, and realizing what has truly happened. Some start fleeing towards the woods, others the mountains, but the majority stay for the supplies, and for the fight. All the careers have shaken off the trance and have collected weapons, all eyeing up the competition. Blaine from District 1, grasps a glimmering silver sickle in his hand. He looks around for his first target, and catches sight of a boy, no younger than 15, searching through a crate. Quickly, Blaine rushes towards the boy, his adreneline rushing through his veins, and the thought of achieving first kill status in his mind. He reaches the boy and kicks him in the side of his face. The boy lets out a large shriek and stumbles to the ground, doubling over in pain. A devilish smirk crosses Blaine's face as he pounces on the boy and pins him to the ground. Blaine rests his sickle up against the boy's throat just as the boy starts to scream and pleed, then the deed is done. With one swift movement of Blaine's wrist, the sickle slashes through the boy's throat and the first kill of the games was made. Blaine stands up, and peers down at the boy's lifeless body, a feeling of remorse settling in his stomach, but he brushes it off. In his mind he knows that he has to act in-human to win these games.

Minutes pass, and more and more bodies start appearing on the ground. The Careers have taken full control over the Cornucopia, guarding each and every last bit of supplies, some tributes manage to break through their barrier and retrieve supplies, but most find themselves lifeless on the ground. Many tributes have managed to escape the initial gore of the bloodbath, including Shaymus who managed to retrieve a sword. Thalia escaped as well, but with a small gash to the arm. Ginny, with a small pack and a sleeping bag, wounded a younger tribute and then escaped to the forest. During the midst of it all, many others managed to escape as well, including a small alliance of tributes containing Erle, the boy from District 9, Jaqueline, one of the girls from District 12 and Bronte, the other female from District 3. The remaining tributes from 5 and 12 also escaped, leaving fewer and fewer tributes left to battle at the Cornucopia.

The Careers remained having power over the Cornucopia, taking out more and more tributes as the time went by. But suddenly, everything changed. A knife sliced through the air, dodging few tributes, and impailing into the back of Rayner, one of the males of District 2. He let out a yelp, similar to a injured puppy, and coughed blood all over the ground. The other careers looked in horror as their ally fell to the ground, and lingered motionless. Glares were sent the way of the wielder of the throwing knives. Shan from District 11 stared back, then took off towards the mountains, but not before grabbing a pack and a loose bag of oranges. Her long golden locks flopping behind her. Something shifted in the air, it was almost like the Careers lost all power, just because of one sixteen year old girl and her knives. Something happened inside some of the other tributes, a new found bravery. Knowing that the Careers are not imortal. That new found bravery was tested by Keir of District 7.

Brandishing his metalic dagger, he pounced onto Precious from District 1. The girl shrieked and hollared for her fellow careers aid, but none was given. Keir grabbed on to her hair and pulled it back as the girl kicked and squirmed, trying to escape. In his head, Keir knew that if he didn't act now, the other Careers could be on him in seconds. He took the dagger, and stabbed the girl in the chest. The girl spit up blood and screamed in pain. As he ejected the knife from her chest, a geyser of blood came out with it. He stabbed her again, then again and again, until she ceased moving. As he got up from the ground, he realized that other than the Careers, there was only him and two other tributes left at the bloodbath. Quickly he gathered his supplies and took off towards the forest, not looking back to watch the bloodbath come to a close.

The Careers finished off the two remaining tributes, Kaye from 2 getting one, and Wilf from the same District getting the other. The Careers looked around, seeing what they have done, examining all the lifeless bodies. None of them feeling remorse. They were trained to do this, bred not to feel at times like this.

Elyse from District 1 looked over every corpse, searching for any supplies that could be useful. That's when she came upon one of her District partner's body, Precious. She stopped searching and gazed upon the girl's mangled chest, auditing her wounds and assessing the situation. She never really thought she'd see any of her ally's like this at this part in the game, in the preliminary stages. She took one last stare and then got up and walked towards her ally's.

Only the stronger ones are left. She thought to herself, wiping the blood off her axe, waiting for the games to really start.
