Chapter 1
It was cold when I rolled my back to the other side. I noticed that I was sleeping on the floor again. I was already awake for some time yet I refused to open my eyes since I have no desire to wake up from my slumber. Besides it was still dark and it did not took long for me to continue sleeping. I awoke again and even with my eyelids closed I knew it was still dark. At this time my head is beginning to feel uncomfortable after hours of laying down on the cold, solid floor.
I decided to transfer to my bed but when I opened my eyes there was only darkness everywhere. I could not see even a figure. All around me there is pitch darkness and it made me shiver to the bone as I found myself in a dangerous and life threatening situation. Instantly my whole body froze, my heart began to beat loudly and I tried to be as quite as possible. I prepared myself for the worse and I waited for any sound of footsteps, breathing or any sound. I began to pray, asking to God for protection, asking him to forgive all the wrong and evil things that I did in life for I fear that death, certainly a horrible death is not only waiting for me but also frightening demons who will take me to the fiery pits of hell, where pain and suffering is forever and all manners of torture and unholy beast rips my soul apart in an infinite cycle. I was never so afraid in life and as I waited and waited I grew more and more paranoid.
Hours gone by and not a sound was even heard. The place in which I was lying at was as silent as how dark it is. I suspect that I was held somewhere underground. It definitely must be underground for not a hush of wind or chirps of birds and the sounds of insects are present but only an eerie silence. Suddenly a thought came to my mind as if lightning and it made my body shiver in fear. I realize that it all makes sense now on why I am held in a dark and silent place. Whoever had held me here wants me dead rather than ransomed and I know very well that I could be tortured, flayed alive or starved to death if I do not find my way out of here.
Fearing for my life, I decided that in order I may have a chance to live, I must find a door or opening from where I am held so that when the person or persons who are intent in killing me enters the room I may try to fight my way out in order to survive or at least I may bloody their noses before they ever kill me . I slowly stood up and slowly walk to touch the wall of the dark room, from there I will try to find my way out of this room if there ever was one. There, I will wait for my foe and when he or more likely they will enter, I will fight to the death in order to escape and survive even when the odds are against me. Not a moment passed I manage to touch a bookshelf filled with volumes upon volumes of books. I did not expected this but I remained calm in that moment, why would I not? As I walk around in the darkness trying to find my objective I found out that the room I am in is a library having rows and upon rows of books. It took me some time when I finally found my door which to my surprise was open.
Knowing full well that I will lose everything when I continue to stay in that dark library, I decided to leave. I quietly walk, touching the walls for guidance since it was still dark. I do not know how long I was there trying to get out yet I somehow found my way out. It was a metallic door with windowed slits that guards me from escape and a horrible, if not bloody death. I can see from the slits that it was already night time with only the moon illuminating the surroundings showing a forested area and that the entrance to this underground complex is a small cave. The only lock of that door is a very simple door lock. No padlocks or handles or an advance electronic lock but only a simple lever which you simply slide to open and close.
Gathering all my will, I ran as fast as I can to the door. Time began to slow down at that moment and I felt every muscle of my body working in unison to move as fast as possible. My eyes were straight to the door and even though it was only a few dozen meters away, it felt like an eternity. It was the most frightening moment in my life. I was in a state of experience that I never felt before, in which I can only compare to the experiences of soldiers. My mind was bombarded with every thought in that brief moment. Thoughts of being caught, of my family, my life, regrets, victories, hopes and then death came so fast and yet so briefly. Before I knew it I reached the door and I quickly opened it and ran as fast as my feet can go. I did not even turned back to look at the door. I sprinted through the forest floor running as if a madman. The forest though illuminated by moonlight was still very dim to see and I nearly broke my leg when I slid to a small depression, however my legs absorbed the shock and I manage to continue on my sprint. As I continued on my run I was able to see a clearing which expands to an open plain. I was able to see some structures as I stop for a few seconds to gazed in the wide expanse however there was not a light that was visible. I decided that I must conceal myself rather than risk travelling at the plains at night since I may be easily be caught. I wandered back at another part of the forest, running in zig zags and stopping to hear any footsteps. There was none, so I slowly walk through the forest, being careful not to make anything loud until I found a suitable place to hide. It took some time but I eventually found the place in which I was looking for. It was a small sloping area with trees and thick bushes. It might be crawling with insects, possibly snakes but no one will ever find me here. So I carefully lied down, putting myself in the bushes and listened for anything suspicious, however I grew tired and slept after what seems to be hours
