Heyo, readers! Time to introduce the second member of the new Teen Titans! Oops…did I say that out loud? Spoilers…
Mark Xavier belongs to BlackNaito, who is awesome!
I only own my OC, Electria. But if I owned the Teen Titans, it would still be running today [and I'd be rich as heck].
Ellie walked down the street, her long legs taking short, clipped steps, and her brown hair bobbing to each movement. Anyone who passed her on the street would think she was just a regular girl aside from her unusual eye color. Ellie had Heterochromia, so her two downturned eyes had separate colors- green for the left and hazel for the right. She always hated them, but had to admit it was cool to be among the few people with this rarity. She rubbed her aforementioned eyes as the wind blew in her face. It was cold, and she could have had the T-Car drive itself down to her spot and pick her up- that was a new upgrade Cyborg gave it just a week ago. But after the pain of seeing her only friends leave her just a few minutes ago, she wanted to 'walk it out'. She got her thoughts sorted out better when she was moving.
What was she going to do? Make a new team? Was she even allowed to do that?
Ellie laughed inside. It was embarrassing how often she had to catch herself- of course she could make a new team. There were no rules against it. Raven even told her to do so.
But how? It wasn't as if there were rookie superheroes just walking around Jump City, waiting to join a team.
She approached a bus stop bench, and sat next to- but at a polite distance from- a black-haired boy. He glanced at her for a moment before returning to his book. He sensed something was bothering the girl, and she sensed he sensed that. The boy's name was Mark Xavier, and at that moment, Mark was having a conversation with himself inside his head.
Something's wrong, should I say something? She looks stressed.
No, she'll just get weirded-out that I'm talking to her. Maybe if I look friendly enough, she'll talk to me first. It would be the first time anyone's done that.
Ellie was trying to get a good look at the book the boy was reading. It was a bad habit of hers to try and figure out others reading materials. A weird quirk- but she couldn't help it. It was part of her observant nature. That's when she glanced at his face. He looked as if he was trying to solve a mathematical equation. His bright green eyes squinted in thought, and Ellie couldn't help but think of Robin during one of his "detective cases". Maybe that familiarity was what got her to say something.
"Uh- hi."
He snapped out of it, and looked at her.
"Hi," He seemed friendlier after being greeted.
Ellie pointed to his book,
"Life of Pi, I love that book. Have you seen the movie?" She asked.
Mark smiled, happy to find someone with a good taste in books.
"No." He answered.
There was something about the boy that Ellie couldn't quite figure out. She decided to keep the flow of conversation going.
"My name's Ellie. Ellie Von Abel."
"Von Abel? That's German, isn't it?" He asked quietly.
"I don't know. I think so." Her voice faded as she saw him return his gaze to the book. She guessed that maybe he didn't really want to talk after all, but Ellie wasn't going to give up.
"What's your name?" She asked.
"Mark."
Ellie opened her mouth to say something when she was cut off by a loud crash behind her. She whipped her head around and saw a car lying sideways in the middle of the street. Completely torn in half.
"What in the-"She stood up and sprinted over to the curb. People were pointing and a few were screaming. Pointing at what?
Two figures emerged from a bank a few yards away, smiling proudly.
"Mammoth and Gizmo? Not now…" Ellie mumbled under her breath. Mark stood up and shifted his gaze between the two villains and Ellie.
"You know them?" He asked.
"Unfortunately. They're members of the H.I.V.E Five."
"Oh. I've never heard of them, surprisingly."
Ellie was about to ask him what he meant when Gizmo, a small child carried by robotic spider legs, spotted her.
"Hah! Look at you snot-head! Where's the rest of your team?" He mocked.
"Where's the rest of yours?" Ellie mocked right back.
Gizmo pouted and nudged Mammoth. The hulking villain roared and ran across the street towards Ellie and Mark. The brunette turned her back and grabbed something out of her purse. Mark shifted his feet, trying to decide on what to do. Finally, he mumbled something under his breath, and started to glow a faint gold. In one swift motion, a wooden staff with a glowing blue orb on top appeared in his hand, and his hair began to change to a brilliant blond, and his green eyes to blue. Ellie was frantically trying to rummage through her bag, oblivious to the action behind her. Mammoth stopped his run and laughed.
"Whadda you going to do, pretty boy? Try to poke me with that stick?"
Ellie looked behind her and gasped. That's what was so different about him. She sensed that Mark was hiding something, and apparently it was that he had freakin' magic powers.
"Um, can you hold him off for a second?" She quickly asked Mark while still desperately trying to find the object in her purse.
He nodded and quickly summoned a golden-tinted barrier, concentrating as hard as he could. Mammoth growled and banged his fists on the shield.
"Can't hide in there for long!"
Gizmo smirked and grabbed a controller from his small backpack.
"This'll blast 'em out!" He said. He tossed explosive discs onto the barrier, and frantically pressed the red button on the controller. Each disc erupted into small blasts.
"Don't let them break through!" Ellie yelled at Mark.
He grunted and kept concentrating with each disc making a small dent in the barrier.
Ellie fished a small bottle from the purse and desperately twisted the cap open. Mammoth began head-butting the golden wall, sending shockwaves through it. Ellie poured two neon-blue pills from the bottle and popped them into her mouth.
"I can't keep the barrier much longer!" Mark said urgently.
"You don't have to." Ellie answered him, her eyes sparkling with energy.
Mark glanced behind him and gave Ellie a worried look. She had wild eyes and sparks of electricity running through her hands. She looked completely different from the friendly girl Mark met only a few minutes ago.
"A-are you okay, Ellie?"
Suddenly, Ellie's playful expression turned to anger.
"Ellie's my civilian name. It's Electria now."
Mark swallowed hard. Who was this girl?
The barrier evaporated with one last pound of mammoth's fists. Mark drew his staff, ready to change to his darkness enchant. Gizmo aimed a grenade at the black-haired boy.
"Time to blast you crud buckets to next week!" He yelled and threw the weapon. Mark dodged it just in time, and quickly mumbled an enchantment which changed his eyes to red, and his black hoodie grew until it almost reached his ankles.
"Huh?" Gizmo mumbled. He quickly reached for another grenade, but suddenly Mark was in front of him, and easily knocked him to the ground. Mark searched Gizmo for any more weapons, and then turned his attention to Ellie- or was it Electria now? His eyes searched the street, but she was nowhere to be seen.
"…Electria?" Mark said a little too quietly to be a shout.
Mammoth exploded out of a ruined building like some sort of ragdoll. He skidded across the asphalt and landed near Mark's feet. Light blue electricity jumped around the humongous villain, and then faded away. He seemed unconscious.
"One down," Electria emerged from the hole in the wall. She looked down at Mammoth and Gizmo and smiled. "Zero to go."
Mark rubbed the back of his head. "What now?"
Electria stared at Mark as if she had only just noticed him. Suddenly her eyes seemed to grow dimmer, and her expression turned milder. Ellie laughed and shrugged.
"I guess the police take it from here."
They both sat down on the bench the same way they did only a few minutes ago.
"Wow." Mark said after a moment.
"What?" Ellie asked.
"I haven't fought like that in forever."
"Really?" Ellie turned to him. "You're pretty good at it. But don't worry, I won't tell anyone about your powers- unless you want me too."
Mark frowned. "I don't like having the press follow me around."
Ellie checked her watch. She sighed and looked up at the sunset.
"I have to go back to Titans Tower. Bye, Mark."
She stood up and began walking. Mark called out to her,
"Wait, you're a Titan?"
She stopped, her back to Mark.
"The only one, now. At least for a while."
Mark stood and shuffled his feet.
"You think you can handle taking care of this city by yourself?" He asked.
Ellie turned around and faced him.
"I-I didn't mean-"He stuttered.
"I know, and I can't. I can't take the Titans place." Her eyes fell.
"…Do I have to say it?" Mark said.
"Say what?" Ellie asked.
"I'll join you; really, you obviously can't do this alone." He paused. "I didn't mean it's obvious you can't do it alone- I mean, you've got powers- but I mean-"
"I know." She laughed.
Ellie rummaged through her purse and handed a silver communicator to Mark.
"What's this?" He questioned.
"A communicator. Cyborg gave me a few new prototypes before he left- I don't know if they work well, but it's all I've got."
"Thanks."
"Oh, I almost forgot!" Ellie held out her hand. "You are now officially a Teen Titan!"
Mark timidly shook it. Ellie smiled and pulled out her own communicator.
"T-Car, pick me up at-"She looked at the street sign. "Oakfield Avenue."
The communicator beeped, and Ellie flipped it closed.
She couldn't help but feel that the city was going to be in good hands.
