Bells and Golden Eyes
Chapter 2 – A Pirate's Worst Option
Gan Ning couldn't breathe. He just stared until he saw Lu Xun had opened his eyes, faintly blinking. He ran like he was flying just to get to the dying strategist.
Please...Lu Xun be okay.
Gan Ning rubbed Lu Xun's head, his light brown hair, incrusted with dried blood. The pirate kept rubbing his head until Lu Xun locked his golden eyes on him.
"G-Gan Ning, I didn't s-see." Lu Xun mumbled, gasping for air.
The tears had started in his eyes; Gan Ning quickly turned his Lu Xun around and sat him up; gently cradled in his arms. Lu Xun held his arm around the pirates' neck to keep from falling.
"I'm so sorry that I wasn't here for you, Lu Xun."Gan Ning apologized, tears blurring his vision. Lu Xun didn't answer. He just nodded his head and slowly closed his eyes. Gan Ning wiped his eyes then saw that the strategists' eyes had closed again.
"No stay awake, Lu Xun! Open your eyes!" Gan Ning hollered.
He wanted to go get help, but he couldn't imagine leaving Lu Xun there alone. Not as injured as he is. Lu Xun reopened his eyes to slits. He lifted a weak, shaky hand to wipe the tears off Gan Ning's face. Gan Ning took his hand in his and tangled their fingers together; tightening his hold.
"You have to go. I-I'll be okay, but I don't know h-how much longer I-I c-can-" Lu Xun couldn't finish his sentence without coughing up blood. His hand tight over his mouth, turned crimson with blood.
"I don't want to leave you here. I can't!" Gan Ning confessed, gently brushing light brown locks out of Lu Xun's eyes. Lu Xun just squeezed his hand and slowly closed his golden eyes. They felt too heavy to keep open.
Strange, even in the presence of death his eyes are still golden…not yet faded. Maybe he has a chance. Gan Ning wished for nothing else but for that thought to be true.
"Lu Xun, stay awake! I'm going to go for help, but you must stay awake!" Gan Ning yelled into the teen's pale face. Lu Xun opened his weakened eyes again, but felt them wanting to close almost immediately. He slowly nodded.
Gan Ning carefully lifted Lu Xun from the ground and carried him back to the same tree stump he had fallen off of moments before. He placed the teen next to the stump so he'd lean against it. Gan Ning crouched down next to Lu Xun and saw his color was fading. He looked pale- paler than usual. The pirate gently caressed the strategist's cheek and smiled weakly.
"I'll be back."
The pirate picked up his Sea Master and ran until he found someone that could help. He didn't even think about how his stomach still bled or how badly his legs ached. He had to get Lu Xun out of this place; alive. He then spotted his worst option, in his opinion, Ling Tong, but he couldn't be choosey.
"Ling Tong! Now! Here! Hurry!" Gan Ning yelled at the top of his lungs, choking on air. Ling Tong hopped over his last fallen victim and looked over at the pirate.
"What could you possibly be crying about?" Ling Tong teased.
"Bastard, I unfortunately need your help. Just come, please!" Gan Ning pleaded. Ling Tong ran to Gan Ning, with a confused yet slightly satisfied expression. He quickly looked the pirate over and noticed Gan Ning's bleeding stomach.
"What happened to you? Who did that?!" Ling Tong asked gripping Gan Ning's shoulders.
"Doesn't matter! We need to get back to Lu Xun!" Gan Ning forced a breath out, smacking Ling Tong off.
"Wait, what happened to him? Where is he? What are you waiting for? Take me to him!" Ling Tong exclaimed with enraged impatience.
Gan Ning, surprised to hear him yell, led Ling Tong back to where he had left Lu Xun, but the strategist was no where to be found.
