The walker glared down at Luffy, it's eye flaring red.
Luffy himself was still smiling, staring obliviously at the giant creature above him. The family saved from the giant meteor were still staring at the pirate, flabbergasted at how nonchalant he was being. Luffy noticed out of the corner of his eye that Superman was coming down from the sky holding another person, dressed in grey and black with pointy ears.
"Oi!" he shouted as he waved his arms around. "Who's the weirdo!?"
Superman actually stumbled at that one.
Stumbled. In mid-air.
When he drew breath to reply, he noticed that the three-legged monstrosities' eye was narrowing dangerously.
"Luffy, move!"
"Huh- WAH!" the pirate yelped as a red beam of energy arced down from the walker and carved a path several feet deep into the pavement where he'd been a second before, turning red-hot as the powerful laser sliced through it.
Luffy, for his part, blinked down at the concrete and muttered something under his breath. Superman flew past him and struck the walker in the head... face... thing, and slammed it into a nearby building. He stuck his hands into the thing's skin and tried to pull it apart, but before he could, the eye focused again and a beam struck him in the chest, hurtling the Man of Steel into a building across the street.
The enormous creature looked back down at his former target, but found him nowhere to be seen.
Luffy, meanwhile, having seen Superman being thrown away from the walker, began to frown.
"Oi!" he shouted from behind the walker. "Eat this!"
He moved his leg backward and shouted, "Gum Gum... Whip!"
The family that Luffy saved watched in stupefaction as his leg extended until it was more than five times the length of his body. Whipping his torso around, he swung at the walker's stilts.
The first one it hit cracked under the tremendously powerful blow, while the second and third were lifted off the ground as the walker fell on its side and stayed there, unable to get up. Luffy stood behind it as his leg returned to its previous shape and pointed at it in triumph. "That's what you get for hitting my meal ticket!"
Under the rubble of the building, Superman sighed.
Before he could revel too much in his victory, there was another sound from behind him, as a second walker pulled free from the asteroid, then a third, both of which immediately received two rubber fists to the face... head... thing.
Superman was actually surprised at how easily Luffy was taking them down, but before he could comment or go to help, a flash of pain hit him. Images poured through his mind, images of chaos and death.
Looking away from the pirate still in the streets, he flew away as fast as he could. Luffy, in the meantime drew back his fists and scrunched up his face in disgust at the yellow sticky liquid coloring his arms. Flinging his arms around, he managed to get most of it off.
However, before he could concentrate too much on it, he felt an unusual sensation that seemed to pierce through his forehead into his brain. He scrunched up his face in mild irritation as a bunch of images flashed before his eyes.
"Ow! What the heck was that?" he wondered aloud, rubbing the sides of his head. Now there was an annoying urge to head towards the mountains.
But then again, he'd never been known to listen to his brain anyway.
As he stood there, strange alien things began to separate from the asteroid, sinking into the ground and extending towards the sky. Something that looked like a drill began to sink into the ground repetitively as dark smoke started to pour from the top of the weird building.
Luffy punched both fists together and grinned. This would be fun.
A few minutes later, far off in the mountains, Superman hefted a tank over his shoulders to provide cover for Batman and J'onn J'onzz as they made their way to the Batwing. As they took off, Superman threw the tank at the aliens and went after them.
However, their troubles weren't over yet. Several flying vehicles that looked similar to the aliens began to fly after them, red laser beams firing after the heroes.
Superman managed to destroy a few but more kept coming, until finally several suddenly exploded.
"What was that?" Batman asked.
"Help has arrived," the Martian replied.
The Dark Knight looked out the window of the Batwing as Hawkgirl and Green Lantern flew out of nowhere and began systematically destroying the alien fighters.
Suddenly, a laser flashed out and sliced into the Batwing, which began to go down. Opening the hatch, the Dark Knight walked out of the damaged plane. As he continued to watch, Hawkgirl took a shot and slammed into the side of the cliff face. As she lay there, stunned, a fighter flew towards her.
Before anyone could rush over to help, another woman appeared.
Tall, dark-haired and beautiful, she stood in front of the downed hero.
"Allow me."
As the fighter closed in and began firing rapidly, she raised her arms and began to parry each shot away from Hawkgirl using the gauntlets adorning her forearms. As several repelled lasers struck the attacking fighter, the other heroes began to finish off the remaining ones.
On a nearby cliff face, the Batwing landed, damaged. As he climbed out, Batman looked out over the small valley they were in, something red blurred across the land.
"Hey Bats!"
The Flash stopped in front of him, holding the wing that had broken off above his head. "I think you dropped this."
A few minutes later, when Superman was done repairing the Batwing with his laser vision, all of them gathered into a group.
Unfortunately, before anyone could say anything, an explosion from the nearby town drew their attention. Superman focused his vision and saw a small red dot slamming into another of the alien walkers.
As he began to float upwards in preparation for flight, Green Lantern asked, "Superman, where are you going?"
"To go get some help."
Dear Lord of Dungeons and Dragons, that took forever.
Deepest apologies for taking so long with this meager chapter. Going back to school and being incredibly sick while doing it is not very fun.
Hope everyone enjoys what little I can provide.
