Chapter II

The first time she awoke, everything was hazy and she still felt cold, frozen even. Yet, she could feel a quilt around her. Ingrid was too out of it to even question where she could be. There were voices around her. At least 4. Two male and two female. The petite child could only make out a few of the words, the voices blurring together. "...Malnurished...Weak...Pneumonia...Blood loss... Half dead..." Ingrid tried to open her eyes but found her eyelids heavy. She did eventually mange to open them, but only for less that a second before her senses dulled back int the darkness.

- Two Days Prior-

Rebekah was walking around the castle her, Elijah and Niklaus called home. It was a pleasant place with a sort of home felling to it. She enjoyed staying there and wasn't looking forward to the time when they had to move one. As the youngest Original walked around the castle, she heard a knock on the main door. She expected to hear someone go and answer it. After waiting for a few minutes yet not hearing the sound of the door opening, Rebekah decided to go and answer it herself.

What was behind the door surprised her. It was a young girl. The condition of the child made her heart wrench. The girl's once blonde hair was now filthy and caked in mud and what appeared to be...blood? Her green eyes dull and almost hopeless. Rebekah could smell more blood on her, coming off her leg. When she looked at it, it made her stomach churn. Her leg had been extremely mauled and was bleeding profoundly, even though the wound appeared to be a few days old. The girl's lips and finger tips were blue from the cold. Not surprising considering the rags she was wearing.

The blonde was torn. Her brothers would not appreciate her brining this child inside but she couldn't just leave her to die. The girl gave her a pleading look and let out a single word before she collapsed. " Help." Rebekah used her speed to pick up the girl before she hit the ground. The Original was determined. She was not going to let this girl die.

" You WHAT?" The three Original siblings were in Niklaus' study discussing what was to be made of the small girl Rebekah saved.

The blonde in question let an exaggerated sigh. " I saved her life, Nik. She was a child! I couldn't just leave her to die! Come on, Elijah. Surely you of all people agree with me." Rebekah turned to her oldest brother, as did Nikalus.

" Rebekah did the right thing. It would be heartless to have just left the pore child to die on our doorstep." The only female in the room smiled whilst the other male rolled his eyes.

" What use is it having a heart and getting attached to mortals? They'll die anyways. Whether it is today, tomorrow or in fifth years. They all die. See if I care whilst you waste your time on this child." Niklaus then proceeded to storm out of the room.

He'd never tell his siblings this, but after their little spat, Niklaus went to check on the young girl. Rebekah had demanded they have witches help heal the girl so they could speed it up and increase her survival rate.

As he walked into the room me noticed how fragile she looked, how vulnerable the child was. When he'd first seen Rebekah with the girl, the poor thing was barely breathing. Now, she was healing at a good pace. Though, she had still managed to develop a case of pneumonia which the witches were close to curing.

Putting his hand on her cheek, he stroked it with his thumb, smiling at how innocent she looked. Niklaus was actually looking forward to seeing what havoc this girl would bring to their lives.
