Jiro stood up slowly, watching the bushes as the rustling got louder. He has a firm grip on the stick as he threw his wet shirt on his shoulder. Panic set in as something jumped from the bushes, only for Jiro to chuckle. "Haha... It's only a bunny..."
Something growl from the bushes and one of his classmates came from the bushes. Pieces of flesh hung out of his mouth as he had an half-eaten arm, still chewing it on as he reached for Jiro. The sight made Jiro's stomach churned, he raised the stick and swung. The stick connected on the boy's jaw, surprisingly the stick didn't break, but that didn't stop the boy from attacking. There was another rustle of the bushes again, and this time the undead drop to the floor.
Jiro used his stick once more. Before the undead could sink his jaw through Jiro's throat, he swung with his stick as hard as he could, ignoring how brittle it was. Jiro swung his stick and hit the approaching undead head-on.
Jiro panted. He used all his strength in those strikes to stop the undead from eating him. However, it didn't stop there. The undead raised off the ground and charged at Jiro. Jiro panicked, throwing his stick at the undead and running away.
" I should've stayed home instead of going on this trip!" Jiro yelled out loud on his path away from the undead. He was so loud the undead could probably hear him. Jiro couldn't see anything behind him. His hands felt wet from holding his shirt. But he was too slow, an undead already had his hand on his head.
" Ahhhh!" Jiro shouted. The undead was going to bite him, either transforming him into a grotesque zombie like him or eat his flesh. Jiro screamed in fear before someone fired a bullet that burst through the zombie's head. The zombie's head exploded.
Jiro didn't turn around to look for the person who saved his life, he didn't even know if that person was trying to help him or kill him, and continued his run through the forest.
Jiro opened his eyes wide in shock as he heard the growls and shrieks of zombies ahead of him. Jiro was shaking to the core. He ran to the right away from the zombie's. When the zombie's finally arrived, Jiro was running like Indiana Jone's away from that rolling boulder in the first movie. In truth, Jiro was kind of happy zombie's were chasing him. All his life he was a loser with parents that never paid attention to him, he would never admit to himself this was the adventure he wanted in his life. He know longer felt like a piece of garbage.
This boy who was treated like garbage felt adrenaline and fear pumping through his veins. " If I remember correctly zombies can only run and break through doors. There was no movie about them ever climbing down hills." What luck Jiro had, being able to run to a cliff. However, it was a stupid idea to run to a cliff, only when you are a small boy with no athletic abilities and never climbed a tree once in your life.
Jiro then remembered Arkham Asylum and all the Titan goons he had to face. Remembering what Batman would do in a situation like this, he turned right at the last second. Did all the zombies realize they were running to a death trap? The one's in the front with bad eyesight didn't. They continued running and fell down the cliff.
" I have to climb a tree!" Jiro shouted, sensing trouble coming his way.
Jiro turned around and ran towards the trees. About to climb the first tree he came in contact with, a zombie jumped out behind the tree about to grab Jiro. It had its jaws opened, with strong boney teeth that could puncture his neck.
" Ahhhh!" Jiro screamed when the zombie grabbed his shoulders and flicked his head back to eat him. However, a bullet somewhere far away probably fired from a sniper rifle blew the zombie's head off. For once in Jiro's life he was glad to be a short nobody midget. If he was taller the bullet could have gone through his back.
It felt strange running after he was nearly eaten to death, but Jiro had no time to worry about something that prolonged his death. Not waiting for another miracle sniper to save his life, he ran through the trees. Then suddenly he saw someone's shadow appear in the air, looming dangerously above Jiro.
" I have to hide here. All night if it will keep these zombies away."
Jiro stopped running. He was tired, if he ran any more he would faint and wake up zombie chow. There was plenty of spaces where he could hide, caves, water, trees, and dig a hole to bury himself in. It was still sunny out so a cave would be a good place to hide…if he wanted to run into a dead end. Water, he couldn't swim that fast and there was always the consideration zombies could float. Trees, they would either climb it up like monkey's or gnaw it down like beavers. It was a terrible idea to begin with. And the bury himself idea…didn't seem like it would work. Jiro felt like he was in a survival horror movie. Climb didn't have much going for him from those Hollywood characters. He wasn't strong, he couldn't start a fire, and he was short.
" I'm nothing but a short nerd without any way to fight…" Jiro found the answer to his problem. There was a big rock leaning against one of the trees and some leaves. Jiro thought maybe, it couldn't be, was it worth the risk? " I cannot run around this island all day. It's worth a try. It better work."
Jiro crouched down like a hedgehog behind the rock. He moved his hands at the leaves and covered his left and right side with it. It was like building a leaf pile, but was more camouflage than a play thing. Too late to go back now, he was surrounded by these zombies. It only sounded like there were a few of them. Only a few zombies walk out in the daylight. Even if they didn't find him now more hiding out there would show up, swarming this place in a group. This island was a hunting ground to them.
" Dear mom, dear dad, if I ever make it out of here…you might have to try homeschooling me."
