Chapter 3 – You know me, Like I know you

Recap

"Um, Gene I think I'm going to go inside, 'cause I don't want to be anymore later than I already am. Thanks for showing me where it was. Bye"

"Mai…" Noll mumbled, shocked, staring at the girl.

"Mai, wait, meet us by the pond outside after classes at lunch break."

"Ok…" I warily agreed walking into the auditorium, Gene and Noll right behind me. I managed to sneak in and plumped down into a green one by the back exit. I watched as the professor droned on with her lecture, this was all too easy, and got bored taking down notes of things I already knew so I began to think about him… Noll. Why am I so attracted to him? I mean he completely (and rudely) ignored me, but more importantly:

Why do I feel as if I know this guy?

The sunlight shone bright as the wind blew my shoulder-length brown hair over my face. This is why I kept it short, so it wouldn't get in my way, for when I study mostly. THWUNK. I heard a deep noise, like skin coming in contact with a hard material-ed purse.

"Ouch! What was that for? You old hag?!" a loud voice screeched, and then someone bumped into me, knocking me over. A sharp pain radiated from my hip, causing me to grab my side and wince. Who…?

"Oh, honey I am so sorry," the man said, scooping me up and crushing me in a giant bear-hug. "I just didn't see you there, you're so small."

"Monk! She is not small, you are just big!" the lady who had provoked him retorted, standing there with her hands on her hips. "And get off of her, you'll scare her off." She followed this with a mumble, saying "You perverted old man…"

"Hey! I heard that, it hurts…" he feigned hurt, holding his hands over his heart and throwing his head back in mock screams, all the while sniffling like he was crying. He recovered incredibly fast and smiled apologetically, "Hi there, I'm Takigawa Houshou – but you can call me Bou-san".

"Um… ok? I'm Mai, Taniyama Mai". She understood now that she should shake his hand, but this man was obviously Japanese so she bowed, he smiled gratefully and returned the gesture.

"And I'm Matsuzaki Ayako." She said with an air of finality, pushing Bou-san out the way and grabbing my hand, bowing slightly. I bowed in response. "And, Monk, leave Mai alone."

"What? Why?" Monk cried.

"Because, old man, I think Mai happens to like being able to breath." She replied smartly.

"Don't call me 'old man', you old hag!" THWUNK. Ayako's purse came in contact with Monk's head once again, Mai winced…

"Well, that's gonna leave a mark," a voice from behind us said, jokingly. Gene! And… Noll, who was trudging along behind Gene.

"He deserves it." Noll remarked, smirking. Gene grinned at his twin's grumpiness.

"Hello Mai, Monk, Miss Matsuzaki." Gene greeted. Noll nodded to me, and ignored the rest. Oh so, now, you're acknowledging me – how nice of you, I thought spitefully.

"Mai, where's my tea?" Noll questioned, I became confused – tea? Why can't this guy make his own tea?

"Why should I make you tea? You clearly have capable limbs to do so." I said, a little meanly, but can you blame me? This guy and I only just met and he was dropping honorifics and ordering me to make tea.

"Well, it's your job after all, or well it used to be before you left."

"Excuse me, but I have no clue on what you're talking about – I've never met you anywhere before, 'cause if I did, I think I'd remember you and your attitude." As I said this he scoffed and his chest blew up like a bird.

"Don't pretend, even though your brain is small, even I don't think it's truly that bad- enough that you wouldn't remember working for me." He sputtered.

"Noll where are your manners, I mean seriously, you're 22 now – can't you act it?" A new voice popped up from behind me, I turned to see another extravagant lady, whose magenta-pink hair was blowing ferociously behind her because of the wind, and sighed. So many people today causing lots of emotions, it's almost like I'm going to get emotional whiplash.

"Madoka, Lin, good to see you two," Gene greeted the pink-haired- woman and the freakishly tall man behind her, Madoka grinned while Lin nodded.

"Gene, honey, long time no see!" Madoka exclaimed, practically jumping on Gene when she gave him a hug. Monk cleared his throat. "And who are all these people?" she questioned.

"Takigawa Houshou." Monk said, proud and loud, elbowing Ayako out the way. Ayako just pushed him straight back to where he was before.

"Matuzaki Ayako," Ayako replied a little quieter, but still definitely not shyer.

Mai opened her mouth to answer Madoka, but a voice beat her to it. "This here is our very own Taniyama Mai." Gene spoke as if he knew her before today. But then again, maybe he had heard of her before…

"So this is the Mai we've all heard lots about," She inquired. "Now I see the big fuss…"

"Huh?" was Mai's smart reply.

"Madoka, we all thought you and Lin were busy helping our parents," Noll skilfully interrupted Madoka replying to Mai.

"Well, Noll, to be perfectly honest, it got a little boring as your parents didn't need all that much." She replied. "So, Mai, Oliver here has told us much about you."

"Oliver? Who's…?" came everyone's (except Noll, Madoka and Lin) question.

"Oh, maybe he's Kazuya to you?"

"Madoka shut up… if you don't mind." Said person demanded, all the while he was glaring at her.

"Now Noll, I believe the polite way to ask that would be 'Madoka shut up please…of course that's if you don't mind doing so." She did an imitation of Noll.

I snorted softly, and Gene turned to her and grinned. "Madoka, we can only ever dream of that…" I said, my head turned as if I were looking daydreaming.

"Oh Mai, you do remember me," Noll commented "I was starting to get worried that you'd forgotten me… but of course, who could forget me?"

"Why you… I know what I'm going to call you from now on… NARU – as in Naru the Narcissist!" I mumbled. "I'm not that much of an idiot, Naru."

Naru turned to me, with a shocked expression on his face (wow he has emotion!) as he slowly asked me:

"What did you call me?"

I know, I know, not the best of chapters but it was essential. I'll try to add in a case to the plot but I need some ideas, so please if you have any that you're willing to share – please tell me! Please review also! Bye
