"Uuggghh.." Ethan found himself vacuuming up the aftermath of an intense match of tug-of-war.
"All your fault, Meowstic. Look at what you did."
Meowstic just stared at him again. He sighed.
"Listen, Meowstic. Under my roof," he pointed up, "under my rules," he then pointed to himself. "You got that?"
"Meow."
"MY rules. You can't steal my chips."
She just stood there in silence.
"... You should've asked me first. How was I supposed to know you only liked chips?"
"Meow."
"Look, you're a psychic type, right? Can't you like.. speak to me through telepathy or something?"
"Meow." She shook her head.
"Oh great. Can you stop staring at me at least?"
She blinked.
"Oh, give me a break." He settled down on the sofa, once again watching his favorite programme on television.
"Meow." Meowstic walked up to the window.
Ethan just wanted to watch television in peace, but of course he wasn't getting that sweet respite he desperately needed.
"Meow. Meow. Meow."
Meowstic started mewling repeatedly to Ethan, whose eyebrow twitched with irritation.
"Meow, meow, meow, meow!"
She continued to gripe and bawl until Ethan finally snapped.
"Okay, okay, WHAT?!," Ethan lashed out, "You're getting on my frickin' nerves."
Meowstic pointed outside. "Meow."
"You want to go outside?"
She nodded.
Ethan didn't like to go outside. He never found leisure in just walking around the city; that was boring as running papers around the office. Oh, no, he didn't want to think about the office. His arms don't want to be reminded of it.
His sister was counting on him though. If Meowstic wasn't happy when she came back, he knew there would be some "major repercussions." Repercussions as in excessive angry calls and texts from his sister. The only way to stop these antics would be to do a lot of housework for her. Either that or do what he swore was a pretend date. All of these he didn't want to do at all.
With a moan, he managed to grunt out a loud "Fine!" and rise himself up.
"Let me just get ready first.."
He threw on his most casual outfit, a black hoodie with some jeans.
He grabbed his toothbrush, squirting on some toothpaste. Once he started brushing away at his ivories, he noticed Meowstic staring at him from the door again.
Why does she stare at me so much? He mused. Is it because I'm so darn handsome?
He shook away his thoughts, gargling the minty residue out of his mouth.
Pulling open the door, he glanced back at Meowstic.
"So? Let's go."
"Meow."
Ethan opened the front door for Meowstic, who padded out casually.
He rolled his eyes as he locked and shut the door behind them.
"Where do you want to go, Meowstic?"
Meowstic glanced at the roads, before giving a shrug.
"Maybe the park. I heard it's beautiful there during the spring." Nate had never been to the park before. Now's a better time than ever, he thought.
She looked up for a bit, before giving a nod.
"Alright then, park it is."
Nate hoped that the cold hadn't killed off all the beautiful wildlife that made parks a beautiful sight to adore. He had rarely ever seen those, and he also wanted to impress Meowstic. Not that he wanted to, it was mostly just to please his sister.
After a quiet little jog, they both managed to reach the park. Unfortunately, the cold had killed off all the flowers, and all of the native Pokémon were either migrating for the winter or hibernating. It left the park to be a bland grey plain, riddled with partially dead trees and ice Pokémon moving food for the winter.
Nate couldn't hide his disappointment, whining a slight bit, but he perked up once he glanced down at Meowstic, noticing that she seemed somewhat satisfied to be there. He knew, because she wasn't staring at him for once.
"Want to go for a few jogs?"
"M.. meow!" She nodded, getting a head start.
"Alright, you're the lady, Meowstic.."
Time flew by quickly, and the both of them decided to stop jogging after a while. They went grocery shopping since Ethan had to pick up some 'supplies' for his abode.
"You see anything you want, Meowstic?"
Meowstic was just peering in between the shopping shelves.
".. Okay? Let me know when you do-"
"Meow." She instantly beamed in front of Ethan, holding a little piece of candy in her mouth.
"Whoa- huh, what? What's this?" He took the candy from her mouth.
It was a chewy piece of strawberry taffy, wrapped in neat pink plastic.
"Taffy? You want this?" he said with a puzzled expression.
Meowstic nodded.
"Are you sure? I didn't know Pokémon like you eat candy.."
She made a little smile, nodding once again.
"H-huh? You're.."
Meowstic's face immediately revolved back to her normal, emotionless expression.
That was the first time he ever saw her smile. He felt a little excitement build up in him.
"A-Alright, I'll buy it."
"Meow."
The rest of the day went on smoothly. Ethan bought the candy and Meowstic decided to save it for later. At least that's what he believes she did. All he saw was her tucking it into her tail.
It was starting to get dark, so they took off to their home.
"Hey, Meowstic?"
Meowstic's ear twitched, showing that she was listening.
"I've been thinking.. why did Gendol leave you behind?"
Meowstic suddenly froze.
"Here, I mean. Why didn't she bring you along with her to Kalos?"
"..."
"... Meowstic?"
"..."
Meowstic resumed jogging, leaving a concerned Ethan behind.
Ethan caught up with her at the end of the day, and they arrived home without another word. Ethan tried to get Meowstic to even let out one mewl. It was useless.
He decided to go to sleep, hoping that Meowstic would be better off tomorrow morning.
Meowstic would barely get any sleep that night. She layed on the sofa, her eyes wide open.
She was trying to sleep, but something kept her awake. Something that pulled at her very soul.
And she'd find out what that something was.
