Sonic had cocooned himself within a sea of blankets, he hated the cold almost as much as he hated water. His quills stuck out in all directions as he pressed his head against his pillow. The sound of talking in the otherwise silent train car roused him from a pleasant dream. Sonic glanced out the window to find that it was still dark out, the full moon shined brightly in the night sky.
He got out of bed and tiptoed to the curtain that seperated their booth from the aisle. Sonic could hear Shadow and Rouge whispering to each other on the other side.
"I still don't understand why Towers insisted we bring him with us," said.
"Getting protective now are we?" Rouge teased.
Sonic knew he was glaring at her, "I'm just worried. Don't you think this is a little suspicious?" Shadow said.
Sonic waited for Rouges reply, he tried to get a little closer so he could hear better when he stepped on an old plank causing a loud squeak. Sonic felt his heart drop, the curtain was forcibly pulled aside and he was met with angry crimson eyes.
"What are you doing up Big Blue?" Rouge asked.
"I woke up and I heard you guys talking," he said. "I got curious."
Shadow sighed, "Just, go back to bed."
Breakfast was pretty uneventful as the train barreled through the snowy wilderness. Sonic sipped his hot chocolate, staring out at the frozen tundra. Shadow filled out a crossword puzzle while Rouge applied her makeup.
"Do you think Omega's ok?" Sonic asked.
"They're in sleep mode hon, don't worry," Rouge assured him.
He nodded and returned to his drink, sending a quick text to Tails saying that he was alright. Shadow just continued with his crossword.
"How much longer until we get there?" Sonic sighed.
"About an hour," Shadow said.
"It's freezing out here!" Sonic complained, his teeth chattering.
Rouge sat next to him, waiting for Shadow to get Omega. Snowflakes floated to the ground around them. People got into taxis and the vehicles of family members, driving off to destinations unknown to the blue hedgehog.
Shadow came back with Omega's box, he opened the large crate and booted him up.
"Hello Agent Shadow, Agent Rouge," they said.
"Hey! Don't forget about me!" Sonic huffed.
"Hello Sonic the Hedgehog."
The car rental was stale and dull, Sonic leaned against the cold wall while waiting for Rouge to buy the rental car. The light flurry outside turned into a blizzard, they would need to stay at a hotel.
The car they ended up renting was black with leather seats and was thankfully big enough for Omega to sit in. Sonic looked out at the little town, it couldn't have a population larger than 150 residents.
Shadow carried Sonic's and his luggage up to their room, Rouge carried her own.
"You really didn't have to do this Shads," Sonic said, "I can carry my own stuff."
He merely shrugged his shoulders and continued up the stairs, the elevator was broken. The hotel wasn't pretty but it was suitable for a single nights stay.
They were split up into two separate rooms, Rouge and Omega on one side of the hall, Shadow and Sonic in the other.
The room was rather small with two beds separated by a night stand. There was a door that led to a bathroom but it didn't have soap.
"Talk about skeezy," Sonic joked.
Shadow hummed in agreement as he set their stuff down. He pulled out some pajamas and handed them to Sonic. They crawled into each of their beds and turned out the light.
"Hey… Shads," he whispered.
"What?" Shadow growled.
"What were you and Rouge talking about last night?"
He sat up in bed, red eyes focused intently on their blue companion. Sonic laid on his side, his face resting on his hand.
"Dont worry about it, go to sleep," Shadow said.
"But I wanna know!" Sonic whined.
Shadow sighed, "I just think it's suspicious how we weren't given much information."
"Why?" he asked.
"Usually the commander gives us more intel for a mission," Shadow said, "I feel like there is something he's not telling us."
Sonic hummed in response, his eyelids growing heavy. He curled up under the covers and fell asleep. Shadow watched as his chest rose and fell, drifting off to sleep himself.
With dawn came soft morning light. The mobians got dressed and headed to the rental car. Shadow sat behind the steering wheel with Rouge riding shotgun. They drove along a single two laned road, the small town growing less visible as they traveled west.
In the distance they saw a city, Robotnik's capital. Tall skyscrapers rose high above the surrounding area. Robots patrolled the streets as people went about their daily routines, completely unbothered by the machine's presence.
"This is so fucking weird…" Sonic said.
Shadow parked the car outside some sort of restaurant. Everyone except Omega exited the car, they stayed inside while the others entered the restaurant.
"Ok, here's the plan," Shadow said, "on the south side of the building there is a garage that is connect to the rest of the building."
"But how do we get past security?' Sonic asked.
"I'll disable the security system," Rouge said.
They sat in the corner of the restaurant, going over the plan away from prying eyes. At the top of the building was the weapon G.U.N was after, the problem was getting there.
Here's chapter three! I went through a bit of writers block but I got through it. I plan for there to be more action in chapter four.
