Chapter Three: Fights and Dragonslayers

As soon as we arrive with the injured Wendy, the guild turns to utter chaos. Erza scoops up the unconscious girl and runs to the infirmary yelling for someone to get Porlyusica immediately. Macao embraces his son amidst tears, and Natsu tries to punch me in the face.

"WHAT DID YOU DO TO WENDY?!" The Fire Dragon Slayer roars.

I yelp in surprise and hide behind the nearest person, who happens to be Laxus. "I am completely innocent! Please don't hurt me!"

"Geez, dude." Mel says to Natsu, pulling me out from behind my human shield. "What kind of man tries to hit a woman? That is SO unmanly."

"Yes. It is!" Elfman says from directly behind the two of us.

My friend and I jump in surprise. "DON'T DO THAT!"

"My, you two are jumpy!" Another voice says brightly.

Mel and I whirl around to scowl at the perpetrator.

"M-Mirajane!" Mel cries excitedly, throwing her hands in to the air. I wince as her elbow clonks me in the side of the head.

"Ouch."

"Whoops, sorry Annie!" She grabs my shoulders and spins me to face Mira. "Look! It's Mirajane! In the flesh!"

"In the flesh?" I deadpan. "As opposed to what? In the ink?"

The two of us bust out laughing. Mira just stands there, head tipped to the side, smiling in slight confusion.
"Whoo. " I trail off. "I am so sorry, ma'am. Inside joke, long story." I stick out my hand to shake. "I'm Annie, this is Mel. We're not crazy, we swear."

Mira shakes my hand and smiles wider. "Romeo told us about how you two saved them. Is it true that you're Dragon Slayers?"

"YOU'RE DRAGON SLAYERS!?" Natsu, Gajeel and Laxus all yell in disbelief.

"…Yes."

"I don't believe you." Natsu says bluntly.

"Yer too tiny to be a Dragon Slayer." Gajeel concludes. He grabs Levy by the back of the shirt and sets her down beside me. "See? Yer shrimpier than Shrimp."

"WHAT DOES THAT HAFTA DO WITH ANYTHING!?" I snap, my right eye twitching in annoyance.

"Gajeel, shrimpier is not a word." Levy says, looking annoyed.

Suddenly, Mel punches Natsu in the jaw.

"Mel. That's rude." I say, looking down at the unconscious man. "I also didn't know you had such a masterful right hook."

"He said we were lying!" Mel snarls indignantly. "We AREN'T! I distinctly remember my dragon parent!"

"So do I." I say. That weird sensation from before is back. The feeling of déjà vu, except it's not a vague sense, lingering on the edge of my conscious thought, it's right in there with all of my other memories.

"My dragon is a Glass Dragon." Mel continues. "Her name's Glyssia. And she's beautiful and kind and powerful and…and…AND SMARTER THAN ALL OF YOU SHITTY ASSBUTTS!" She finishes in a scream and bursts into tears. Everyone slowly backs away from her.

I pat my friend on the back consolingly. "There, there, Melon."

"I thought her name was Mel." Someone says.

I glance up. "It's a long story."

"FIGHT ME!" Natsu yells (again).

"Oh look." I dead pan. "You're awake."

"I don't believe you're a dragon slayer! Fight me!"

I look at him out of narrowed eyes. "What'cha think, Mel. Should I show him how Americans kick ass?"

My friend dries her tears. "Be my guest."

General POV:

"You're short." Natsu says.

Annie's right eye twitches slightly. "What did you say about my height?"

"That you're short?" Natsu had a sneaking suspicion he shouldn't have said 'short' when talking about this girl.

"I'M NOT THAT SHORT!" Annie screams at the top of her lungs.

Everyone winces. They doubt that their hearing will ever be the same, because damn that kid has LUNGS.

"Yeah, you are." Natsu says. He wasn't going to back out now.

"SOUND DRAGON'S ROAR!"

There was now a Natsu-shaped hole in the wall.

"Whoops." Annie says, instantly calm. "I went a bit overboard there."

"YA THINK?!" The entire guild roars.

After a bit, things calm down. Natsu stumbles back in to the guild, takes one look at a grinning Annie and runs out, the hole in the wall is patched, and introductions complete themselves.

Annie and Mel find themselves sitting at the bar, watching as the others punch each other senseless.

"So, what are you two going to do now?" Lucy asks, walking up to them.

Mel shrugs. "I suppose find an apartment to dual-rent…"

"Why dual-rent?"

"Because I'm irresponsible!" Annie pipes up. "And Mel can't cook."

"Also because the cost will be split two ways, making it easier to pay." Mel points out.

"And that." The shorter girl concedes.

"Do you two have any Jewel?" Lucy inquires. These two seem a tad to spazzy to just release on to the innocent townspeople of Magnolia.

"Oooh." Mel says slowly, as that bit dawns on her. "No. No, we do not."

Annie's eyes widen. "Shittage. Well, we could earn some, Mel!"

"How?"

"…"

"Oh COME ON! Use that impressively high IQ of yours and help me think of a solution!"

"I GOT IT! Mel, let's join Fairy Tail! We can move into Fairy Hills! Also, everyone here's so nice, I'd bet they'd help us get going!" She turns her grin on Lucy, "Could you help us? As a fellow author to another?"

"…Sure… But how did you know I wrote?"

"Easy, ink stains on the side of your right hand indicates you were recently using a pen. Also, the slight indentation on your right middle finger shows you hold a pen A LOT!"

"Easy there, Sherlock." Mel chuckles, patting her friend on the head.

"Don't pat me. I am not a dog. Besides, my own hands look a lot like that!" Annie hold out her right hand. It's covered in graphite and ink stains and there's a definite writer's dent from holding a pencil too long.

"Wow. What are you writing?" Lucy questions.

The girl's eyes light up. "A really cool story about-"

Mel clamps her hand over Annie's mouth. "Before she bores you to dea-"

"Mmph!" (Hey!)

"…Death, we'd like to become members of the guild!"

"Mmph mnph!"

Mel yelps and jerks her hand away. "Don't bite my hand!"

"I'm sorry. No, I lied. Serves you right. I want my guild mark in the color of turquoise."

"In the color of turquoise? Why didn't you just say turquoise?"

"I have no idea."

"Well, I want my guild mark in green."

"Waitwaitwait!" Lucy interrupts the girls' banter, waving her hand in front of her face wildly. "We don't even know if Master will let you join or not! Slow down for a minute, geez!"

"Join the guild?" Master Makarov himself inquires.

Annie falls off her chair in startlement (A/N: my computer says that's not a word, but I honestly don't care. It is now!). "You people do seem to enjoy giving innocent 17-year-old girls heart attacks, 'cus you all sneak up behind us."

"My apologies, brat."

"My name's Annie."

Makarov ignores her. "So you two want to join Fairy Tail?"

Annie and Mel nod vigorously. "Yes, please!"

"Hmm…" The master paused, thinking. Finally, "Mira! Give these two guildmarks and a loan for lodging!"

The mages were deafened by the girls' scream of joy.
