Chapter 3
Harry was kneeling by the stream, washing his hands. He started to look around trying to remember how he got there. The last thing he remembered was laying down to rest.
"Do you really think you are strong enough to save anyone Harry?" asked a voice coming from behind him. He turned to see who said it, but there was no one there.
"It's your fault your family is dead," it said again.
Not sure what was going on he started to run. He didn't know where he was going, just that he needed to leave. As he was running all he saw were trees, when he notices a break in them. He started to make his way towards it and when he passed through, he was back at Hogwarts. Looking around he saw that he was in the courtyard and noticed a figure just standing there. He started to make his way toward them when they turned around and there was Voldemort, with a sinister grin on his face.
"Do you honestly think you can save anyone? You could not save your friends or family. What makes you think you can save anyone now? How many lost their lives due to you?"
He started to back away; shaking his head side-to-side. It was just a dream. Voldemort was dead. This could not be real.
"Harry? Why? I thought you were the savior. Why could you not save me?" asked Colin from behind him. Harry turned to look and saw him fading in and out. Colin started walking towards him while twitching as if he was under the cruciatus curse.
"I'm sorry. I did not mean for any of this-"
"Do you know what Fenrir did to me Harry?" ask Lavender dragging her broken body towards him. You could see that her legs were broken with the bone sticking out of the flesh. Bloody hands, from digging her nails into the stone, pulling herself.
"This is a dream," said Harry shaking his head side to side.
"This has to be a dream," he said turning as white as a ghost. His eyes frantically searching for a way out. Somewhere he could go when a hand landed on his shoulder. Looking at it, the nails were neat and painted red.
"Are you sure Harry? Let's face-"
The next thing Harry knew someone was shaking him awake.
"What?" Harry started to say with sleepy-confusion in his voice while looking at his surroundings. Seeing George, to his left, he was relieved that the nightmare was over.
"What's-"
"Don't talk, just listen," whispered George placing his hand over Harry's mouth, silencing him.
"An inferi was walking on the other side of the stream. I'm going to go tell the others to start packing. The area's no longer safe, we have to move," he whispered with worry in his tone. It was at this point that Harry finally processed what was said. He quickly got up and started to shove the few items he had laying out, into his sack. He nodded his head towards the forest, where the remainder of the group was staying. George with worry still in his eyes clapped his left hand onto Harry's right should and gave it a squeezed. Silently asking if he was ok.
He just nodded his head yes and then George started running, leaving Harry on watch. Shaking off the last little bit of his nightmare he started to wonder why was an inferius so far away from any town or city? It was one of the reasons they set up camp here. They were far enough away from the road that none should have wondered this far. There was a slim chance one might, but something just didn't feel right.
As far as he could tell the inferi did not move far from where they ended up turning. They only moved when something drew their attention, and even after a while, if it was not continuous, they would start to slow down and stop. Being out in the wilderness there were only animal noises, and with it being the middle of the day there was no way a light attracted them.
The closest town, from what he could remember, was about a two-day walk. It was why they did not head towards it. There was also a chance of running into a horde, something they did not want to find. And, according to Dave, it was just extra miles to an already long journey. So, he decided that they would continue with the course already planned.
Harry shook his head and reaching his belt. He unsnapped the top of his sheath and removed his knife. He could worry about that later, right now he had a job to do. He started making his way towards some rocks, that were climbable; that looked over into the small ravine. Just as he was getting ready to climb, Akira rushed through the trees on the opposite side of the stream. She was trying to get back to camp in a hurry. It became apparent why when not long after, three inferi came through behind her. He changed course and started to jog down the hill being careful not to fall. When the ground level out, he started picking up speed, turning his jog into a run.
Arkia saw some movement out of the corner of her eye and looked to see Harry running towards her. She held out her right hand, showing that she did not have a weapon. Noticing the gesture, he unclipped his second knife and tossed it to her. With the item safely in her hand, she pulled the knife out of its protector, letting it fall to the ground. At that moment she started to turn her body, used her weight and speed, to pivot on her left foot, swinging her right arm up, stabbing the knife into the side of the inferi head. It fell to the ground dead. With the knife, still, in her hand, she started to run towards the other one gunning for her flesh.
Once Harry saw that Arika was good he continued to make his way to the last inferi. While running he raised the knife up and brought it down, lodging it into the infari's upper forehead. When it went lax, Harry pulled his knife out and turns to check on Arika. He saw that it somehow got her on the ground and was currently on top of her. Its hands clawing at her shirt, with its jaw opening and closing, trying to take a bite.
She was struggling with trying to stab it. She could not get a good angle due to the way it kept moving. Its shoulder was in the way and she had her left hand on its throat, stopping it from completing its task. Harry started running and ended coming in from the side. He raised his knife up again and brought it down, piercing the top of the skull. When the body stopped moving Arkia was able to push it off and it fell to the side.
She turned over, kneeling on the ground. Her chest moving up and down rapidly, trying to catch some of the air that ended up escaping.
"Are you ok?" he asked hunched over himself, with little huffs of concern coming from his mouth.
"Yea," she said shakily.
"What happened?" Harry asked to stand back up and holding out his hand for her to grab. Gripping it tight he pulled her up. Once she was standing and stable, he started looking at the surrounding area. Wanting to make sure no more where coming out.
"I was on my way back to camp, after making the round, when one ambushed me. I killed it and then more started to come. One grabbed a hold of me and I was able to break free from it but ended up dropping my knife. I tried picking it up, but it was no use. They just kept coming, so I ran. Figured, one of you guys could help. Where are the others?" she asks looking up the hill and seeing no one there.
"How many where there?"
"I counted about six. I ended up losing a couple in the forest, but we must leave. Between the one I killed and these three, there are two that can make an appearance at any moment."
"Ok. George said he saw one walking by the stream not that long ago and ran to tell the others. I'm not sure if they are still there?"
Arika gave Harry a nod and started to make her way up the hill while Harry stayed on watch below until she was safely on top. Once she was, they switch roles until he was up. They then started to make their way into the forest, hoping to find the remaining members of their group.
