Hermione found herself sitting in a living room staring at the books she had bought from a store. She had to stay busy. Keeping her mind busy kept her from thinking of all the guys that had left her to go and help in this war. She was reading everything she could to try and keep things out of her mind. To make sure she was not in a panic from the boys all being gone. She would work non-stop and keep her mind from worrying about the guys getting hurt or possibly dying. How could someone help them when no one would help them when Voldemort was taking over?
Hermione found herself biting her lip as she kept reading through a charms book. She still had plenty to learn even after coming finishing Hogwarts. She wandered constantly if the boys were learning more or if they were just going on with what they had found out in Hogwarts.
Hermione shook her head roughly. She couldn't think of her friends. She had to open her mind to books and get into working more tomorrow. Hermione couldn't stand that she was still awake and if she went to bed all she would think of is these men and if they were okay and how things were going for them.
Hermione kept slowly reading trying to get everything to stay in her mind. As she kept going she realized a small tap happening. Her eyes looked around towards one of the windows in the livingroom and caught sight of a dark owl. She frowned and went out to the window and slowly opened it. The owl hopped in and stuck his leg out with the note.
Taking a deep breath Hermione took the letter from the owl. She wondered who sent it and who was saying what. She was hoping things went well not bad. Every time a letter came in she just couldn't help but think one of the men are dead. As soon as she freed the letter she watched the owl take off back out the window.
The parchment looked worn and a bit wet. Hermione closed the window and started to open the letter. She gasped at the name she had seen on it. She had honestly not expected this to happen. She didn't see Draco giving in and writing to her. They never had talked except that one day and he had changed so much. But she still couldn't believe he had changed.
Her mind flashed back to when she had seen him on his last day. Sitting there holding hands and talking. She had given him a kiss on the cheek and he just seemed okay with it. It had taken him this long to send a note and now here it was. What was wrong? What did he plan on telling her?
Hermione began reading his letter. She could only smile as she went through reading it. He was nervous over her getting a letter from him. It was cute in her opinion. He had taken his time to get ahold of her and here he was telling her nearly everything he could that was going on. And he wished that she was there. She found herself biting her lip and giving a bit of a laugh to herself. It was amazing to read and to see him being thankful and not calling her names, not going off of her blood line, not making fun of her for being smart. It was the real Draco she wanted.
With the happiness now filling her Hermione walked over towards the table she was sitting out. She moved the books to the side and grabbed a sheet of parchment and her ink and quill. She slowly took a deep breath. She couldn't just go on this large rant on feels and everything. Or at least she would try.
Draco,
I'm glad to have finally heard from you.
She was glad to have heard from him. She couldn't imagine if he was upset over her giving him that kiss on the cheek and being there for him on his last day in town.
I'm glad to hear you are doing alright and that you have not had any experience with the other side there in America. I just wanted to let you know don't think of the past. It is now all behind us. With it all behind us and you saying sorry we no longer have to look at that. We just now have to look at the now and the future.
I know people don't see it that way but that is all you have to do. People will like you for that.
I told you it is okay if you sent letters. I do not mind. It'll keep me from wondering where you are and if you are alright. I understand you can't do it every day but every chance you get would be great with me.
I've been doing nothing really except working at the store more. Trying to keep my mind off everything during the day and now I am trying to keep busy with reading and writing, finding anything possible at night to keep me from worrying about all my friends that have taken on this dangerous task.
I know you are trying to prove you are on a different side now, but I wish you had not gone out there. I wish you could have tried to show your trust in a different way. Just promise me that you will make it back. I would hate for anything to happen to you. Please keep your head down and stay out of the way.
Feel free to send me any letter and I'll always send one back.
Be safe,
Hermione Granger
Hermione looked the note over. It wasn't long it was short. She couldn't bring herself to get more into a letter until she gets to know him more. She figured as he sends more notes the more he'll let her know of him and how comfortable he is with her.
She pulled the note closed and sealed it before walking over to her owl. She wasn't exactly sure where to send it but figured since the owls always knew where to go on their own it would make its way. She gave the owl a stroke and smiled at him. "Make sure it gets to him." She whispered and watched as it took off.
Hermione watched the owl going flying out the window and continued to watch it until it was out of sight for the night. She couldn't help but keep smiling. How was it she was going to be happy over Malfoy sending a letter to her? She found herself going into her bedroom still smiling and getting ready for bed. She wondered what he was doing at the moment, if he was safe still, if he was thinking of sending another letter.
As the night slowly moved on, Hermione finished getting ready for bed smiling and thinking of the note that was just sent to her. She climbed into bed and stared out the window wondering how long it would take the owl to get to him. It shouldn't take that long. She thought as she started to doze off.
