Chapter 3: Chapter 3
I DON'T OWN TEEN TITANS JUST SHADE.
Blackfire was still visiting and the Titans spent some time with her and Shade had been learning magic from Raven seeing how he was able to use magic, Beast Boy, Starfire and Raven are currently in the command room and doing their own thing.
"Raven, we need to talk" Said Robin with a strange tone in his voice.
So Raven followed him to the Medical Lab. As she enters, she spies Cyborg with a sad look.
"Cyborg ran some test on Shane's blood and it seems... he's dying... But that not just it, his blood matched his mother and sister's samples, but not his father's." Robin stated in a somber tone.
"So then I extended the comparison search and…well… found another match. Another definite relative beyond his sister and mother." Cyborg added where Robin left off. "You see, Raven, according to the computer, he's your younger brother by a year. And his powers are demonic in nature, his powers were awoken at the moment of the accident because it wanted to protect him from dying and it be because of his powers that he won't live past 17."
"His birthday is on May 29th and while yours is on the same day." finished Robin.
"Are you saying what I think you are? He's...my...younger...brother?!" Raven said with complete and utter shock. "Now I know why his aura felt familiar? It was my father's! So the prophecy that I read as a child….'The Gem was born of evil's fire, The Gem shall be his portal, He comes to claim, he comes to sire, The end of all things mortal!' that was the prophecy and my father, Trigon was defeated but then what is Shane involvement in all of this. Trigon might be coming back and is after both Shane and me?"
"If he is, we're ready for him." Cyborg spoke.
"Raven, he need to know that he has a family alive still." Robin said.
"I tell him." Raven asserted.
Raven enter the gym knowing Shane was probably training but when she enter the room she finds Shane on the floor unconscious.
(In Shane head)
"Soon my son, I'll be free and you'll be my slave." The deep voice said.
"I'll never join you! And you're not my father!" Roared Shade.
"Do you really think that you're human?! NO! You're not. You're useless mother made a deal with me because she wanted a son. So I gladly gave her one, by giving myself one as well and she put a spell on you. The name she has given you has no meaning to a half demon such as yourself. The name Shade does, but being the way you are now isn't enough because you're human and demonic halves are separated. Yet at the same time, they are two different forms. They should be one, complete form. You will have to merge them into one."
"Never!" Yelled Shade.
"Yes I thought you would refuse. Well just know if you don't… you will die. All of you will die. Your demonic side and your… other side." Shade mouthed the word human, but before the sound travel the baritone voice cut him off.
"You're not even human. I mean you mother wasn't even from Earth."
"You're not my father, why don't you just leave and….what do you mean my mom was never from Earth and neither am I? You been talking to me since I was five!" yelled Shade
"Soon my son you'll understand. You can't escape from your fate." The voice said with a slight chuckled tone. "And said hi to your dear sister Raven for me."
Then everything went back to normal.
'Make both my Human and demonic half into one and I wouldn't die if I do.' thought Shade as he notice his head was on Raven lap.
"Raven. What am I, I'm not exactly human am I."
"No Shane you're not, you're from Azarath like me and so was your mother, our father is Trigon and you're my half little brother by a year, you still have a sister, a family and... you're dying." Raven said as a few tears escape her eyes.
"I know that I'm dying, Trigon told me it was because my mom used a spell that separated my demonic halve from my human half giving me two different forms and she didn't know that it was going to slowly kill me, Trigon said that I have to merge my two halves into one, my true self." Shade stated in a monotone voice as his red eyes look into Raven's purple ones, "Raven why are you sad?"
"I'm not, Shade." Raven replied.
"You know as well as I do that I'm an empath like you and that you can't hide your emotions from me." Shade stated, "So I ask again why you are sad?"
"Come on… we're going to see your decease parents and sister grave because today is the anniversary of their death and at least you should visit their grave." Raven said trying to ignore Shade question.
"Can't I just stay in my room and keep meditating?"
The look on Raven's face clearly says no, but Shade beg to no avail. The other reason she knows what today is because he told the first day she started to teach him to use his powers and Shade can't help but wonder why he didn't keep my mouth shut.
Raven said nothing, but responded with a stare that Shade knows all too well. He knew at that moment she was not going to stop until he agrees about going to see his family's grave. The moment that realization comes a pain shoots through Shade's body.
"Rrrrraaven!" Shade yelled out in pain. His body started to twist and lunged in ways it shouldn't. It was clear to Raven that he was not acting. She moved in close to him.
"Shane… Shane just listen to the sound of my voice. Whatever you're seeing is not real, like a flashback. You have to calm down and breathe. You need to relax and slow your heart rate a little… and then it'll be over." Raven said trying to reassure him. Deep down she wondered why Shane's powers are being so affected by whatever happening to him.
"R-Raven make it stop! Please… please block the memory of the accident from my mind." Shade said pleading and begging for her to release him free from the pain.
"I can't. This is something you must accept and once you do Shane it'll be all over." Raven said unsure of what else she could do. It was up to him to take control and change. "You can do it Shane."
Shade nodded his head. He moved slowly; untwisting his body. Finally he stood upright and he transformed into Shane then right back into Shade. After a moment he looked up and locked eyes with Raven's. No words were necessarily. The pair took off in silence and flew directly to the grave of Shade's parents and sister.
Shade kneeled down to the grave and spoke softly to his family. "Hey mom, dad, and Mira. I know you've been watching me and probably are disappointed that I'm trying to become human again. And knowing you Mira you might say that these powers are a gift. Of course mom and dad you agree with her…" Shade spoke candidly.
Raven stepped back giving him some space and privacy. She stood there quietly watching him. After a couple of moments, Raven felt they were not alone. She looked around and then from behind a large headstone rose the figure Raven moved in toward Shade and muttered his name very softly. He looked up and saw the looming figure.
He then rose up and ready himself.
"Slade." Raven said as her voice was oozing with malice and disgust.
"Is this guy as tough as you told me?" Shade asked Raven as he shot Slade with energy blast. Slade effortlessly avoided it.
"Yes, but just let me handle him since your powers are unpredictable. Remember to stay calm and collected." Raven said as she went to face Slade. Shade couldn't just stand there and watch his sister/teammate fight someone that he told was a serious threat to the city and his friends.
"I'm not interested in you little girl. I'm interested in the boy." Slade said as he avoided all of Raven's attacks. Slade continue to battle one-on-one with Raven, but he kept his attention on Shade. "Do really think you can trust the Titans? Do you think you can really trust Raven? I can show what true power is and all you have to do is become my apprentice."
Slade was punched in his facial mask by unseen force and was kick into the ground. Slade wasn't able to see him at the speed that Shade moving, but he certainly heard him. "I'll never betray my friends….especially RAVEN! Because they're people I know I can trust." Shade followed up his exclamation with a shot of another energy blast at Slade.
Shade followed the energy shot with another punch to his facial mask, but unlike last time Slade caught his fist. In other swift counter move as Slade put a band on his head and let him go.
Shade attempted to turn around and resume his action, but he was frozen. He looked around helplessly wondering what was going on. "Why Can't I move?" Shade asked.
At the same time Raven was rolling over onto her back and rise up again. She had moved in full force on Slade, but he dodged her. She ended up connecting with a marble statue.
"Ah… because the headband that I put on you was made of the same tech that was used to controlled Terra, but this one I can only control your action. Speaking of your actions, attack Raven… now."
Raven was finally up on her feet and shaking the attack off. Shade didn't want to attack her. She had done a lot for him in past several days.
"Raven get away fast! And get help!" yelled Shade.
"We can't have you talking now can we?" said Slade as he force Shade mute with a press of a button. Shade tried to yell more to Raven, but all sound from his lips was gone.
Raven had heard the cries and watched Shade attempt to struggle against Slade control. Raven knew she needed the other Titans for this. Knowing his order to attack her, Raven took off immediately. Midair she called out for her fellow team mates, but only got half way done with explaining what was going on when she fell dead silent.
As Raven flew away from Shade to call the rest of the Titan, Shade went after her.
He had no say in the matter as Slade was calling all his shots. His powers were all over the charts, but the one energy blasts he aimed at her connected perfectly. She spun around a couple thousand feet in the air and started her descent to Earth.
She looked up at him and noticed tears in his eyes. He opened his mouth to speak, but Slade had muted him. The pain from the energy blast and speed she was falling in made it hard for her to read his lips, but she was almost certain he said sorry.
Shade dived deep to grab Raven, but as he did a shot by Cyborg's sonic cannon pushed him back away from her. Beast Boy moved in and caught Raven before she hit nearby concrete. Shade was thankful they had arrived, but quickly his joy turn to worry as the Titans surrounded him. They all had the look on their faces that said they're going to kill him. Shade knew then that they assumed he was Slade spy or partner.
Shade didn't bother to try to speak. He knew it would be as pointless as silent movie right now. However a soft voice did fill the quiet area. "Wait Robin!" It was Raven's voice. Beast Boy had set her gently down on a bench. "Don't hurt him! Please! He didn't betrayed us. He's just being control by Slade. When we were fighting him and Slade put that headband on him." said Raven as point to the control device on Shade's head. The Titans looked up and saw the headband. They also notice the tears in Shade eyes swelling up. "It's contr…."
"Titans take him down!" ordered Robin interrupting and shocking Raven. Raven tried to finish her comment, but the others had already sprung to action. Starfire went in for the attack. She flew up to Shade and as the pair continued to gain altitude they fired back and forth at each other.
Shade grabbed the red-head by her neck and flipped a 180-degree. He started to speed down toward the ground. Then he slammed her into the pavement. She was knocked out and landed in a bunched up ball of human mass in a small crater that was the sidewalk. Without skipping a bit, Shade used his telekinesis to lift up three cars and hurl them at Cyborg and Robin.
Robin moved quickly and fired back with an explosive disk at him which seem to cause some damage. Shade took hold of Robin and started to lift off the ground, but Beast Boy put a halt to that thanks to his Gorilla form.
"Destroy them!" The order came from Slade and everyone except for Starfire heard it.
"Shade, you must fight it! I know you can and stop this madness." Raven said as she watch Shade fight back for control as he tossed Beast Boy away from him. The headband start to spark as he tried to fight against it. "Remember whose side you're on and that you would never betrayed your friends! You said you trusted us, you trusted me. Well trust what I'm telling you right now… remember who you are, my brother and Titan."
The headband continued to spark and Shade's mouth moved. No sound came out for a few seconds and then, "R-Raven, I can't fight back." Shade muttered as he continues to fight for control of his body. The sound of his own voice, ignoring the fact it was weak, and the fact that his red aura startled him a little.
"Shade, remember those words I taught you." Stated Raven as she got up off the bench. Shade responded with a slight nod. Still in mid-air above them, Shade's eyes started to glow kind-of like Starfire's, but her eyes glowed green and his were bright red. A soft chant start to flow out of his mouth. The words 'Azarath Metrion Zinthos' over and over again.
After a few tense moments the headband popped with jolt and broke. The various small components rained down on the Titans below him. Shade, himself, came falling down too, but Raven flew up and caught him. They landed together on the ground without any further issue. Blackfire was beside Starfire and helped her to feet, Shade apology would have to wait as he heard the crunch of dead leave under a boot and looked up to see Slade standing just a few feet from him.
"Slade!" Shade spoke with venom in his voice. His eyes continued glowed red and his hood fell back his red aura appeared again. This time it looked almost like a fire blaze, but all red.
Shade shot a stronger energy blast at Slade. "If you ever tried to control me ever again I swear it'll be the last thing you'll ever DO!" Shade charged in at him and punched Slade. Slade's body went flying back like a limp doll in the air.
Shade burned more his energy as he moved with all his speed to be at the catching.
Slade's body fell right to Shade and his fingers wrapped tightly around Slade's neck. Shade shot up into the sky like a rocket, still holding Slade. "'And if you ever come after my friends or me, I swear I'll kill you where you stand!"
Shade let go of Slade and watched as he plummeted to down to the Earth. The small crater created by Starfire's body was enlarged three-fold at Slade's body hit.
The other Titans moved in to deal with Slade as Shade floated back down. Raven stood there waiting for him. Her attention was moved to Slade for moment as the others pointed out the fact Slade had used at robot in his place.
Shade landed beside Raven. He dropped to his knees. He turned human at the moment. Raven noticing the action the put the black hood of his jacket up to cover his face. "I used up so much power that I was drained enough to change back to human form" Spoke a tired Shane in a whisper like tone that only Raven seemed to hear.
"It's alright and you did well for your first fight with the bad guy and broke out of the control of evil." Raven spoke softly as she gently caressed his cheek. She felt the cold, wet tears run down his face.
"Let's get back to the tower." Robin commanded seeing that fight was done. "We'll talk about what happen today there."
Once back at the tower, Shane finally told the other Titans what happen. He started off the story when Raven going to him telling that she is his sister and that he is her young half-brother and her forcing him to visit his Family grave. Raven interjected a few things here and there, but in the end everyone knew the whole story.
