Hey there guys. I just wanted to say that I'm really sorry that I haven't uploaded in like, um, over 2 months? I just was so caught up in school work and exams, and I had a lot of other stuff on too, so I'm very sorry.
I love people who review, fav and follow by the by! :)
Brother? Caelan's brother? I looked at Skuduggery who didn't look particularly worried that the vampire wanted me to 'pay in blood', whatever that meant.
"She didn't kill your brother," Skulduggery said. I looked at him with a wild look on my face. Technically I did kill Caelan, and obviously his brother wasn't too pleased. How the heck was Skulduggery going to wriggle out of this one?
"Yes she did," Fen said in a monotone voice, "I am tied to Caelan by a very strong bond, and believe me when I say, I felt it. I also felt her presence at the time of his murder."
I shivered when he said murder.
"She may have been here at the time of his death, but that doesn't mean that she murdered him. He died from consuming salt water did he not?" Skulduggery said.
"Yes," he hissed, "Because she forced it into him."
I decided to help Skulduggery out by speaking up, "It is true, I was there when he died, but I did not kill him. He declared his undying love for me and I told him that I didn't feel the same way. I just wanted to be friends, but he was so distraught that he jumped into the water and killed himself. Suicide."
Out of the corner of my eye I see Skulduggery give me the thumbs up and I know that I have said the right thing. The vampire opens the door and extends his hand to Skulduggery, who takes it and shakes it firmly. It is my turn now, and make sure when I shake it, it is strong. But just as I slip my hand into his he strikes, lightning fast, biting into my wrist, sucking up the blood. I quickly pull my hand away as Skulduggery points his gun at him, but he just smiles.
"The blood payment is done. Come, we will talk in my office." And with that, he literally glided off.
I glanced at Skulduggery as we took off behind him, trying to keep up with his vampire speed. My wrist had already healed, but I was still feeling lightheaded from the blood loss, even if it was only a sip.
We followed him inside the office and he slammed the door shut, "You want information about the 10 ingredients do you not?"
"Yes," Skulduggery said, "It is important, and not just for us, for the whole world."
Fen nodded, "The Codex of Magic and Locket of Armadalia have already been taken, and that is why you are here. You need to know of the location of the other 8, and you need to know how to get past all the walls of protection, and you probably need to know which Invinsible is guarding it."
We both nodded.
"That my friends, is a lot of information, which will require a bigger payment than you suggested Skulduggery," he said, "You are playing a dangerous game."
I whipped around to face Skulduggery, "What payment?"
"$22 000," he said shrugging. I gaped at him.
"It's nothing Valkyrie, I don't care about money," he said facing back towards Fen, "What is it that you want?"
Fen Bield smiled, "The girl." Skulduggery immediately stood in front of me, protecting me, and pointed his gun at the vampire.
Fen then started laughing, "Now there's something you care about skeleton, but do you want her more or the information that could save the whole world?"
"She is not part of this," Skulduggery said quietly. Definitely dangerous, I had to speak up now, before something could go really wrong.
"Skulduggery, it's okay, we need that information," I turned to Fen and tried to speak with confidence, "The deal is done, I'm yours now."
"What!? Valkyrie NO!" Skulduggery exclaimed, "You can't just give yourself up to him."
"I just did," I said with the threat of tears spilling down my face, "Be brave."
Those were our code words for, 'I have a plan', and I just hoped that mine would work. Skulduggery understood immediately, and let go of me. I walked over to Fen's side and he put an arm around my waist, making Skulduggery cringe slightly.
"You're mine now," he whispered into my ear, "Don't even think about trying to escape from this mansion."
I nodded and tried to hold my head high and not think about Caelan.
"RENFIELD! Take this girl down to one of the cells down somewhere in the basement levels!" Fen yelled down the hall.
A short, snivelling man with greasy hair came rushing down the hall and did a bow.
"Yes master, of course!" he squealed licking his hand and slicking back his oily, stringy hair.
"Oh goodness I think I'm going to vomit," I muttered stretching out my hands so that Renfield could cuff them.
He led me down a couple of flights of stairs to watch I assumed was the basement. There were 4 cells and he shoved me in the one on the far right, furthest from the window. He locked the door and waved me goodbye, giggling to himself about what a good job he had done.
I counted to fifty in my head to make sure that Renfield had gone for good and I rested my hands on the iron bars of the cell door. Sturdy, but not too difficult to kick in.
I took a run up and kicked the door as hard as I could, it didn't budge. Still not worrying, I decided to try and shoulder barge it. I took another run up, and smashed into the door as hard as I could, putting all my weight into it. I wasn't rewarded, in fact, the only thing I got from doing that was a really sore shoulder.
Oh for the love of macaroni! That was my genius plan, get locked up and escape. The first part went incredibly well, the second part needed heaps of improvement.
I sat down for a while, trying to think of what to do. I had left my necromancer ring behind, so I couldn't use that at all, but I still had my elemental powers.
Hmm, I got up and took another look at the door and realised my mistake. I was pushing the wrong way. In fact, I wasn't supposed to be pushing, I was supposed to be pulling.
I reached out my hands and constructed a soft breeze. I then made it grow stronger, and stronger, and stronger, and stronger, until I had a mini whirlwind. I released all my energy and made it fly at the door toward me, and the door finally gave way.
"Yes," I breathed with a sigh of relief, stepping out of my cell.
I silently crept up to the window, and used the air to remove the glass. So far, so good, I thought.
I lifted one leg up onto the window sill, preparing to haul myself up, and suddenly I was yanked off my foot that was still on the ground and pulled out of the window and into a dark room.
"Dang it," I said, "I thought this was an exit."
I looked up in shock at the person who had hauled me out the window. Even in the dark I could see it, the thin, red scar running up the side of his chalk white face.
Dusk.
