Hey guys! I know it's been so long since I updated this story... But here it is: the second chapter! The whole story is written in my mother language so I need to translate it and truth be told, it's a very hard work so that's why I'm procrastinating. That's why I'm writing my other story in english language on the spot :D
If you read the story, please, leave a review. It is very important to me and I appreciate your reviews very much. Please, let me know if you want more of this story :)
2. Hitting the road
The week went by very quickly for I wasn't looking forward to the trip. I went shopping on Tuesday. On Wednesday… I did nothing. So I called my mom and announced that I'm visiting her this weekend. I studied Law on Thursday.
On Friday, after school just before leaving, I was called by Chika.
'Chichi! Wait! – She said in her high-pitched voice running to me. I turned to her.
'What is it?'
'I noticed that Bulma is acting strange, she has never been in such deep thoughts,' said Chika, 'I wanted to ask her what happened but I thought it is better to ask you because you are her best friend.'
'Well, she doesn't tell me either,' I lied, 'However, I think she is up to some kind of invention or something, why?'
'It is bugging me for a week now, you know. I called her not even once but either she did not answer or said that she does not have time,' Chika said concerned, 'So I thought something serious is going on with her. I thought you would know. I could help her if she ever needs.'
'You seem strange, Chika. What's up with all that concern?' Chika wasn't that kind of person. She was always all about herself and her new boyfriends. As long as I remember her character would change only if she found a new boyfriend. That's right! It must be it!
'Aren't you dating someone new?' I asked out of curiosity.
'Well… Yeah…' She said, blushing, 'Is it written all over my face?'
'Of course it is,' I grinned.
'If you find out something about Bulma, tell me. I want to help,' She changed the topic before things got embarrassing for her, ' Bye.' She ran off.
She was really strange at times. She changed immediately after she got a new boyfriend. And she changed boyfriends very often. Of course it wasn't hard for her to date guys. She was very beautiful: long black straight hair with strange purple shade, dark purple eyes, beautiful oval face with lovely features which she sharpened with a little makeup.
I wasn't even close to her. I'm not telling that I look horrible but I am ordinary. My black like coal hair was always tide to a tail and my eyes was black too. On the top of that I wasn't makeup fan.
Of course, there were some guys who got to like me but I was far from Chika's popularity. Thoough I didn't really care because there was no one who I liked. Besides, I was a dreamy girl who hoped to find a love of my life and live with him for the rest of it. I had a strange feeling that my true love was somewhere very very far from here. And I mean not just in another city or even continent. I had a feeling that he is not on Earth at all. "Silly me" I said to myself for such thoughts.
I ended my train of thoughts and got into the car. I chose a direction straight to my mother's place.
I helped her with gardening there. Also I cooked. She loved what I made for dinner. Truth be told, everyone liked my cooking.
'I always wondered, who did you take from a gift for cooking?' She asked, 'Neither I nor your father could do it so well.'
'I'd like to know myself.' I served the food while talking. 'As you mentioned now, I really miss my dad sometimes. Even now.
My dad died when I was eight. I don't remember him well, but sometimes I think about him. What he was like and what we used to do. However, I didn't talk about him much with my mother because I saw that it was very hard for her.
'I miss him too, sweetheart.' And we continued to eat.
Other two days went by quickly and on Sunday evening I got home. I was afraid for tomorrow but I knew that I was supposed to visit Bulma.
I was driving to school very slowly, not wanting to meet her. After the nice weekend my attitude to the trip got sharper. I felt that these holidays will be roaring because of her but I had no other choice by now.
I got out of the car to see her very serious for my surprise.
'Why are you so concerned?' I asked.
'I can't create a Dragon Radar. I have no idea what are the Dragon Balls made of.' She said very sadly.
'If they are magical,' what I did not want to believe, 'their material should be something we don't know. Can't you create a radar which would search for unknown materials?
'That's what I'm thinking about. But there are a lot of unknown materials so we could end up searching for something we don't need.' She thought for a while and then added. 'If you are not afraid to risk I'll create it.'
"Of course I am afraid but what can we do?" I thought to myself.
'Let's hope nothing will happen,' I said. 'Let's go to class'
'Wait a bit!' She shouted and I turned to her. 'You said you will be free this week so come to my place.'
Just as I thought.
'I'll come.'
After school I knew she will be waiting near my car. And she did. She stood with her arms crossed.
'Could we go straight to my home?' She looked at me with pleading eyes. I knew I had to go so I agreed.
We got into our cars and I waited for her to lead the way. We got there in a short time.
When I got in her home I noticed that it was very untidy, full with paper, gadgets and tools. One out-line drawing got my attention.
'What is this, Bulma?' I asked looking at a thing in the paper. It was round, divided into small windows. On top of that thing was a button.
'It's the Radar. I'll show you,' She took that thing out of the drawer.' I made its sample but I'm still not sure recipient should Ii install.
'What should I do while you are working with this… thing?
'Think of something we could need throughout the journey' She told smilling.
'OK, let us begin.' I said and took one blank paper. 'Tell me what we already have, I'll write down.'
'Hmm… We have a plane, a few guns…' I frowned and looked at her. I didn't like such things, 'Hey, don't look at me like that, they are for defence. Next we have diving suits in case we need to get to the ocean bottom. They are very durable. They withstand pressure. And I think that's it. Think of something else we need.
We had so little as you think about it. Oh, I almost forgot one think.
'Don't you think that we need a capsule house? And I don't think we would travel only by plane' I noticed.
'Go to my bedroom. There is a cupboard. In one of its drawers should be a capsule set. You should find everything you need there.'
I just turned to her bedroom and she added one more thing:
'For you are going there, take the screwdriver which is on my desk. I must have left it there.'
After telling this she calmly went back to working.
I found the capsules where she said I would and took a house, a boat and a car. Getting back, I took a screwdriver.
All day long we worked hard with our project. I collected things we needed and packed them while on the other side Bulma still worked with the radar.
The next day we did the same. I almost enjoyed what we were doing.
'Great!' She exclaimed. Finally she made the radar. We were both glad and ended up jumping like little girls from excitement.
For our next job we needed components but it was already late and shops wouldn't work so we decided to go the next day. I started to feel excited about our trip more than I would have ever expected.
Thursday was a very tiring day. We found out that there was something wrong with the radar. It would turn on show something and turn off at instant. I tried to help her fix it with what I could though I wasn't much of a help. In the end I gave up and trudged off to the kitchen to prepare something tasty rather than do something not beneficial.
On Friday the school was all about the upcoming holidays. Finally they have started. However, Bulma and I weren't very interested in it. We worked in Bulma's place all day long again.
In the evening I had to go back home. I felt sorry for Bulma because of unsuccessful work with the radar. She even lost her hope.
The next morning my waking up time, I heard a call. Disgruntled I opened my eyes and looked at the clock. I showed just half past six in the morning. I needed more sleep. Feeling that all the ground was made of magnet I didn't want to get up but I had to… so I did.
'Yes?' I said and felt my voice very hoarse. I tried to fix it.
'Chichi!'
'Good morning. Why are you calling me so early?' I mumbled.
'Because I have great news!' We did it!' She cheered as if she just found out the meaning of life.
'It's fantastic!' I said smiling. It was rather strange for me that I felt the relief because she succeeded. It seems that the trip might be more interesting than I thought it would be.
'When are you coming to try out the radar?' she asked.
'I'll be there today but it's too early right now you know…' I'll come at ten.'
'Great! I'll be waiting.' I heard her yawning. She must have worked throughout the night. 'But before you come I'll take a nap. Bye, Chi.'
'Bye.' I hung up. She migh be sleeping at ten so I will come to her a bit later. She needs some rest.
As she opened the door for me I noticed her tired eyes. She had black circles under her eyes. She even wore the same clothes as yesterday. Blue shirt and black pants.
'Come in. I'll show you.' She mumbled yawning.
As I walked in I noticed the radar and took it in my hands. I pressed the button and the screen got bright green. Everything else was the same as in the outline drawing.
'This button turns on and off the radar. And these two changes the view of the place.
I pressed the button which is supposed to distant the view and in the left corner of the thing I saw blinking spot.
'Is this a dragon ball?' I asked.
'If I did everything well, yes, it must be a dragon ball.' She smiled. Suddenly an indicator showed up and number following it. 'Numbers show the distance in kilometres.' She explained.
'Three thousand one hundred and six (1929 miles).' I read the number out loud. 'That's far!' I was amazed.
Suddenly something came to my mind.
'I see only one dragon ball here?' I asked almost happy that the trip won't be long.
'Don't be silly, Chi. Press this button some more times.'
I did as I was told and I saw some more spots. After sixth time of pressing there was seven of them in the screen.
'Seven of them?'
'I guess so. Not very much, right?'
'Well, not really' I smiled.
Bulma turned around and I saw that she is about to fall. I was quick to catch her.
'I think you need some sleep.' I lead her to her bed.
'I couldn't agree more.' She laughed. 'When do you want to go? Maybe in the evening?'
'I don't think it's a good idea. You need more rest. Let's get going tomorrow morning. It's better to start a trip with a fresh body and mind. I'll buy something this evening.'
She didn't answer. Just sat down on a bed.
'I will come this evening.' I told her and went out her home.
'I went to the hop and bought some food. At home I packed some clothes: for a warm climate and for a cold.
After all this packing stuff I went to check on Bulma and took all the stuff to the plane.
'Now let's meet tomorrow morning with a smile on our faces.' She said.
'We don't need to wait for something that will come either way.' I mumbled.
Just as I came home I heard a call on my phone. I answered.
'I'm listening.'
'Hey, Chichi. I know I'm calling very late. I hope I didn't interrupt or something?' I recognised Hotaru's voice.
'No, you didn't. What is it?'
'I just wanted to talk to you.'
'Yes?'
'Why do I think you are angry?'
Just then I noticed that I talk in a cold voice.
'Oh no, it's nothing. I'm just tired.'
'I wanted to ask what are you planning for thwe holidays?'
'I'll be gone all the week.' I sighed. 'And what are you up to?'
'I think I'll be with Koichi. You won't believe what happened!' She shouted with enthusiasm.
'Or maybe I will.' I said, joking.
'Today Koichi asked me for a date!'
'It is nice to hear!' I cheered. 'Tell me more about it.'
'I got a message from him that he wants to meet me in a café…' she started to chatter. In the right places I said "yes", "uhuh", "great!". Her story made me forget about a trip for a while. It was nice to hear that somebody's holidays will be quiet… or not.
The next morning I went to Bulma. She was already waiting for me smiling widely.
'Are you ready?' She asked excited.
'Not thinking about what could happen to us,' I shivered, 'you could say I am ready. Yosh! Let's go!' I shouted.
